Excellent stuff. I've been on the Exploreform. I have a 97 Ranger 9" lift. 35's. broke the driveshaft out of it, it's getting sold, being given to us is a 98 Explore. Runs and drives well. Stock.
@rickhz I have a 97 with the 5.0L. With that body style, around how much would it be just to lift it 4 or 5 inches with changing too much, and if there would be any changing what would it be?
Depends what you want to do. They make a lot of torque at low RPMs and I feel when coupled with low gears they make good engine for rock crawling. Without a supercharger they are HP limited so they aren't great in deep gooey mud.
i've researched the torsion twist and shackles but i have some worries about driving one down the road. i've never lifted anything before and really excited to get started. i understand that with the torsion twist i would need an alignment after which isnt a big deal. i have many questions so please forgive me
1 will the ball joints wear out faster with the twist
2 will it reduce the drive shaft life
3 if i replace the shocks with shock for lifted trucks will that reduce the rough ride
wow i had an idea of what i wanted to do with my explorer and this is an almost exact copy of what i want. not only that but it was by the forum that i get 95% of my info from. hmm... i will take that as a sign that i should go ahead and jack my exploder up. any ideas on how i can get a 3 in lift, 31" tires all for around $3000? one last question what color orange is that? sorry i got really excited for a minute
The color is Chevy Hugger Orange. You could do a body lift with tires for less than $3k. If you have a 2nd gen, you could add a torsion twist and extended shackles and still keep it under 3k. It's more expensive to lift the 1st gen since you need drop brackets and longer coil springs.
wouldnt you need a new aftermarket fuel pump and oil pump since you will be going at such steep angles, you want enough oil to get to the engine and not slide to the back of the pan
Keep enough fuel in the tank and there is no problem. I have never starved the engine for fuel or oil. The engine is original and has been doing this kind of stuff since the Explorer had 500 miles on it. No smoke or clatter, and it just passed emissions once again with flying colors.
i have a 95 frod explorer 4.0l and was just wondering if the stock front axle could handle off road fun for someone who doesnt have much cash to play with??
my first 94 explorer had nothing more than slightly larger mud/snow tires and warn locking hubs and still saw some cool places. some say, its the driver that counts, not the build. and if there are any 4x4 groups i can join in the plaistow n.h. area.
the dana 35 in these trucks are pretty tough. run 35's easy. but will go through wheel bearings quick. they are fairly small. axel shafts are pretty close to the same in strength to a dana 44 also. use the same u-joints actually. get bigger brakes, bigger hubs and bigger ball joints. plus in general gears ect are cheaper for the 44. the 8.8 is pretty tough aldo. if you get one from a 96 (i think ) and up they have disk brakes also.
hey can anyone help me find some parts for my 98 explorer love the dam thing but cant find a lift kits for it tryin to find a 4" maybe im gettin 31" tires for it but jus need some help finding a lift kit. thanks
sum freakin nice explorers to guys we love ours not modded much but a little engine and tires reliable as hell maybe i will get serous when im getting a little more richer lol!!!
Yeah lockers are the first thing going in my 91 exploder after I rebuild the rear end. I broke one of the caps the set the ring and pinion lash when I got buried this winter. I used to live in Maricopa when I was young. I loved bombing across the desert in my dads '61 Ford.
In 1997 a girl called lauren was walking in a forest and then a she just dissapeared no one ever found her untill 2000 when a yoing girl called Mary found her body and markings on her chest saying: I wasnt pretty enough" and now you have read this she will appear in your !!!!!mirrorrsaying your not pretty enough and kill you. by the way the girl called mary</3 died shortly after. hey rick, your pumpkin is still lookin good! You probably dont know me, but my brother, LiKuiD is on explorer forum. He has the 98XLT with the parts he bought off X24. Ring a bell?
Pumpkin looks good! Have you given any thought about dropping in a 5.0? Would the 1st gen explorer frame support it? A few mods and the 5.0 sounds nasty, and goes fast to! Plus to my understanding, the 5.0 has a different cam for more torque, which is better offroad.
Many folks have done a 5.0 swap. I'm not interested since I've got plenty of torque with the Atlas II transfer case. More HP would just break more parts.
@Jose91113 I got the fenders from perrysfabnfiber .c o m out of California.

is this a standerd or automatic ...
an how hard is it on the clutch, if it is standerd
kodyscrazyy 2 years ago 2
Not hard on the clutch at all since the gearing is very low. This Explorer has 4:88 gears in the differentials and a 4.3:1 Atlas II transfer case.
