It's an outrage that 'DADT' could still even be considered in this day and age. McCain is a backward, deluded man and shouldn't have any political power or influence at all and it was a godsend that he didn't become President in '08! Barack Obama is the best thing that has happened to America in a long, long time and I sincerely hope he carries on his presidency after the next election.
I feel blessed that McCain didnt become our President, or at least my President... he's scary and Un-American, very sensitive with no respect of other people that doesnt fit on his world. What a SHAME on him, does he still talk to his wife and daughter who are better people than him? Literally, better than him. He dont deserve to be in Congress
The time to change DADT was YEARS ago, I don't undestand these peoples fealings. Just because you are gay does not mean you sudenly can't pilot a ship or aim a gun at an advosory. Gay people have been in the police force foe decades anyway, is being in the military any diferance when the **** hits the fan? You pick up a gun, you follow orders. I'm sick of everone acting as if their is some morale obligation to rpress gays, because some biggot is biast towards them.
As a side note, this presents an interesting juxtaposition. McCain think that the Uniform Code of Military Justice ought to deal with people’s sexual lives. McCain acted on his sexual preferences as a Naval Officer, committing adultery. Adult is treated as a crime under UCMJ Article 134 (conduct bringing discredit on the military). Would the good Senator would be willing to stand before a court martial for his own clear violation of a much more defensible sexual prohibition?
Doesn't surprise me,,, You ever wonder why, republicans always seem to promote discrimination? Look at their convention videos!! Who is in the audience? Now Americans voted for the worse kinds of republicans into office!! The tea party!! Hang on folks,, lets see what this batch comes up with,,,,,,,
Mckcain sound so sour and bitter I hope God touch his heart, because this Republican is so determined to be racist in everything, The Dream Act, The inmigration Reform, and all the Obama support. We all are Brothers and part of the same Universe...
@lucky99lish No we are not all brothers. there is a great deal of anger between different groups. we might want us all to Brothers. But that is not what is happening.
That isn't flip-flopping. That's a conditional statement: - the "the day that the leadership of the military comes to me and says 'senator, we ought to change the policy'" is an IF. As in, IF the military leaders tell him to change DADT, he would consider it. However, he said that people think it's working. So clearly, that day hasn't come.
@roxymartini Um...did you miss the part in which the senior officer in the military said that a change is in the best interest of the military. So yes, that day has come.
Right... but his conditional statement was broadcast on October 8, 2006. What date did the senior military officer say repealing DADT was in the best interest of the military?
Note - I am NOT arguing against the repeal of DADT. I am just pointing out that McCain isn't "flip-flopping" - he's making a conditional statement.
@roxymartini I'm not following you. The senior military leader is ADM Mullen, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. He made the statement this month. Thus, McCain said that he would consider changing it when the miltiary said so. After he made the statement, the senior officer in the military said change it. McCain now refuses to consider the change. The conditions were met and he has changed his position.
flip flopping? McCain states that top military leaders have told him that the policy is working and therefore he agrees it shouldn't be repealed. In the clip from 2006 he states that if the military leaders would tell him to repeal the policy then we should strongly consider it. He never states that we should repeal the policy or that he believes it should be repealed, in both cases he is simply putting trust in our top military leaders. Listen to what he says dumb ass anchor!
Why does everybody make homosexuality to be a moral issue, while not saying much about smoking cigarettes. 5.4 million people a year worldwide die from smoking cigarettes, while being gay kills nobody. HIV-positive is another topic entirely. I just can't see what's worth getting all worked about the 10% of society that doesn't get bigger, nor will ever go away.
After losing the presidential election agains Obamba, McCain is being a sore loser at this point in his efforts to block all of President Obama's campaign promises.
Picking up on the first post, "Its okay for convicted felons to serve in the military but its not for gay people??? ". It is also OK for non-citezens to service in the military. Take that, you conservative a-holes.
since the election, mccain has flipped on this, on the deficit-reduction commission (which he co-sponsored), cap and trade, medicare subsidy cuts. so far, he has actually mostly gotten away with it.
the sad thing is, he's running scared from JD Hayworth, the poor man's Glenn Beck. watch him reverse course if he manages to beat hayworth in the primary.
right or left, this is a blatant example of flip-flopping, and its incredible how the right is being hypocritical when defending McCain. Just another example of how fact and truth is kryptonite to the right. Thank god he lost.
slavery was working too...for white slave owners. however, was it working for the constitution and for those who were enslaved?
god it's amazing how these conservatives like mccain believe discrimination is ok for certain americans just for being who they are (and might i add how god made them) in this world than "christians".
Don't ask, don't tell should have been thrown out a long ass time ago. Actually it never shouldve been enforced in the first place. These ppl want to defend our country! Seems that if anybody would understand it, it would be McCain. But of course he has to remind us once again that he's too old to make logical decisions. He'd rather insult the military official instead of supporting him.
That "*ONE* military officer" you refer to just so happens to be the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, i.e. the ranking member of not only the ENTIRE U.S. Navy but ALL of our armed forces. So his statement should by McCain's own words garner some respect and consideration on McCain's part instead of being cavalierly dismissed out of hand. Also, he's not alone, according to internal polling in the military the majority of those serving would like it repealed. lol
ok you need to watvh the video again my dear:P. they dont put every military officer there, then it would get a bit crowded and there wouldbe none in the battlefield:P. they choose 1 spokesman tospeak the general opinion among the situations. the flip-flopping isnt the officer disagreeing, its mccain first saying he would go along with it if they would wanna change it,and when they wanna change it, he opposes it.
First, McCain says that he'll follow what the military leaders are saying. Then he says that they should have come to the Senate first to discuss it. What a lying sack of crap. His credibility is at zero. No one cares what that 73 year old fossil thinks... and that's why he's pissed off.
The UK changed and as far as I am aware there have been no problems - most of the NATO allies with whom the Americans work allow and have lesbians and gays in the military - the Americans only have to open their eyes and see that this works.
Senator McCain, I think has a right-wing challenger in his state for the nomination which is whay he is drifting rightward. Sorry lurching rightward.
who cares what mccain thinks, this will pass and DADT will be permanently stopped. And I'd love to see a republican candidate in 2010 or 2012 vow to bring it back.
it won't be permanent... these fuckers have 5-4 on the Supreme Court, this is a fight we need to keep on fighting. If the Republicans ruled every facet of the government they would resegregate, so don't start counting your eggs. This fight will continue for 20 or more years
I think that he is playing what he thinks is safe. He knows that the Republicans will probably do well this election year and he is using party politics towards his advantage. With all of the games, it makes me wonder what he really thinks....not that it matters.
I cannot understand at all John McCain's relevance. The man can't remember what he said two days ago let alone three years ago! Another angry old white haired man!
When Senator MCcain says "The policy is working" ...does he mean that it's a good thing to kick out well trained and qualified troops because they are a bunch of (fill in the blank here) ??? Even his wife and daughter are open to change for the betterment of this country. What, does he not have a relationship with them anymore?
@beegbolt take a look at the guy lberman is talking to. he works for the merchants of death.(arms makers) this has nothing to do with equal rights. the ruling elite need to get more americans killed in these BS wars.
Funny how in both responses his final answer is based on what other people tell him to do.
