  • This advice sounds absolutely horrible and factually in error. First of all, science and personal experience have shown that more protein does increase gains. Second of all, no normal person gains a pound of muscle in a week; that's absurd beyond all reckoning. Third, gaining muscle is like doing the bunny hop: you break the muscles down and take 9 steps back, then you build and repair taking 10 steps forward. Analogously, you need way more protein than what the gained muscle weighs.

  • 100 grams=1 pound?

  • @MuscleTeenFlex Approved.

  • TWIN MUSCLE WORKOUT SAID I COULD ONLY MAKE ABOUT 2 POUNDS A MONTH...

  • BUT ONE POUND ISNT 100 grams LOL

  • you can gain 1 pound muscle a week? that doesnt sound a fact.may be 2 pounds per month ?

  • U guys are dumb...he said u need 100g of PROTEIN to build one pound of muslce...whats so hard on understanding that part...btw 1 pound per week isnt so unrealistic if u dont lift ur own hand....THAT DOESNT MEAN U GET THIS ONE POUND EVERY WEEK

  • "these guys have more drugs in them than walgreens pharmacies" lmao. nice video

  • 0:44 1 pound = 453.59237 grams OK

  • 100gram?? doesnt u mean 450grams................

  • This guy is a fucking idiot! One pound of muscle in a week would be a fucking 25 kilos in a year, most people wouldn't be able to do that in their entire life.

  • This guy is an idiot..1lb is 100grams? Wtf...sorry but you are wrong. 1lb in one week? way way way way off..that's a good number even on steroids. Stop putting this crap out there when you don't know what you are talking about..if we could put on 1lb a week we'd all be walking around like arnold schwarznegger ..that's over 200lbs of muscle in a year..freekn moron..even a kid can do the math..I wouldn't expect anything over 10lbs in a year..5lbs would be more realistic in a YEAR

  • @Raedwulfiggie there's only 52 weeks in a year. 1 lb per week X 52 weeks = 52 lbs per year... not 200 lbs

  • yo people he is saying the "most" you can gain in a week is a pound of muscle. "most" people will never gain a pound of muscle in a week.

  • I dont get it, you said you dont need a lot of protein to build muscle, but now you are saying we need 100 grams more?

  • the guy from Thor made 20 pounds of muscle in 3 months for his movie!!

  • @milesrulezz

most begginers do and im sure he was given extra vitamins lol

  • I'm not planning to use them but I am curious to know if using steroids could mean gains of more than 1lb muscle a week? Or if it is 1lb muscle no matter what you do. Thanks.

  • @hipcrio2 Also. If you had naturally testosterone levels , like 1000ng/dl would this mean more then 1lb muscle a week? Because unless I am just being a moron I heard that testosterone increases protein synthesis which would mean more then 1lb a week?

  • Thanks Steve, I was wondering how many days there are in a week.

  • great videos

  • So Steve if i train hard enough and consistently i can 'maxout' in lets say 5 years? Right?

  • 1 lb of muscle in a week seems like a lot to gain in a week unless your new to a lift. Twinmuscleworkout would disagree.

  • thats way too much, thats 48lbs a year naturally, no way

  • @delcshimo *52.17

  • @DiscoRByrno ohhh dear lord you're lost son! Watch scooby1961 videos

  • @DiscoRByrno Well if I gain 1 pound per week that means that I gain 4 pounds on a month and 144 pounds of muscles in a year? Does it make sense? NO! You can only gain 5 pounds a year with good nutrition and training and maybe even 10 pounds if you're genetic gifted.

  • 1 pound a week? BS

  • Hello Steve... i've been watching alot of your videos recently and may i add i've learnt alot... just curious as to how much protein should be consumed each day approx? and per meal each day? Most of these protein/carb calculators online give different answers it's annoying. i weigh in 200 pounds and just wanna build muscle. workout 5 days a week.

  • THROW THE SUPPLEMENTS AWAY. BUY GOOD, HEALTHY FOOD. DONT GIVE UP OCCASIONAL TREATS, JUST GRADUALLY EAT LESS OF THEM WORK HARD, EAT LESS GRADUALLY. LOSE FAT. GAIN MUSCLE. WORK HARDER. LOSE MORE FAT GAIN MORE MUSCLE KEEP WORKING, ABS NOW SHOWING A LITTLE, GAINING DEFINITION GAIN MORE MUSCLE KEEP WORKING. FAT LOSS OPTIMISED EAT THE SAME. MAINTAIN MUSCLE AND DEFINITION. DONE.
  • how much protein do i need if i work out 3x a week 5'9 151 lbs. so i can add the extra 15. i eat like maybe 60-90 aday well 90 on work out days since i have 2 shakes so would it be 90+15 on work out days or should i consume a high amount every day even non work out

  • I read the description, but i was still like "what?" 1 pound is ~456 grams. Again, i DID read the description and i understand it just came out wrong. Love your body!

  • I've recently discovered myself that protein supplements are useless. So this video further proves my point. Now i don't take any supplements and i havent lost any of the muscle i've built and i've saved money.

  • Steve,

Are you saying that buying protein shakes is worthless? Eating regular food is just fine?

    Thanks. Love your website.

  • @khanriza YES!!! A normal diet supplies more than enough protein. If people want to get bigger they just need to train harder and more consistently. I've made tons of guys a lot bigger just through more effective training.

  • @BodyPerformanceTV steve does how you breath matter when doing crunches or sit ups?

  • @al14di no bitch

  • @BodyPerformanceTV everything cool accept one pound is about 450 grams

  • @BodyPerformanceTV What about a vegetarian diet?

  • @Joeyyowe I'm Vegan, and I'm huge. Vegetarian, vegan, omnivore, it doesn't matter just get your protein.

  • @calico992 Not sure if this is true because I'm not a vegan, but they say that soy protein isn't as good as animal protein.

  • ser, is my protein powder useless then, I mean you can get that from food normally right

  • the problem here is that one pound is 454 grams not 100 grams.

  • @karensansui One pound of muscle is mostly water. I think that's what he means.

  • True...but the protein I'm taking has 50 grams of protein. And I take it everyday post workout... if I'm correct won't that make more muscle???

  • @AltamonTKidd ROFL

  • @AltamonTKidd

no because your body will only absorb what it needs. most likely, you'll shit out that excess protein. the tears created in muscle when training can only be filled with the exact amount needed, and the body will not try and squeeze more in. a good estimate of protein would be 1-2 grams per pound of bodyweight of protein.

  • @soldierside365 that makes sense.

  • You are inspirational mam! Thanks! You get straight down to the point!

  • @tashawnify Thanks, I'm glad my videos are helping.

  • ur video's are great, ur a vary intelligent guy when it comes to fitness , but this video is false, most u can gain in a year is about 5-10 pounds of muscle, unless taking performance enhancing drugs. this video might be posible for some one who just started working out and has a good nutritional diet but for guys that been going for awhile its pretty much impossible, i might sound like some guy who think he knows it all and i know i dont, but its common sense this is not likely

  • @IPWNBXRmash I talked about your statement / question on my 4/30/11 BlogTalk Radio show. Search Steve Turano!

  • @BodyPerformanceTV Does this figure include repairing all of the small tears in muscle from intense workouts? If this is true, it seems like it can explain some kinds of over-training.

  • @IPWNBXRmash I agree. 1 lb a week wow really.....and 100 grams takin in equals 100 grams of built muscle. hmmmmm I doubt its a One to One ratio.

  • I actualy did build 10 kg of muscle in only 3 months. I also gained another 5 kg of fat though. I was super underweight at 55kg for a guy at 1.80

I've been training for another extra 3 months now, I gained about 3 extra kg of muscle and lost the 5 kg of fat I gained previously. :D

I'm not expecting big results anymore though. But if you are seriously underweight your body can adapt really quickly. I must say though, my body was undernurrished before starting xD

  • I put on 12 pounds in 3 months so it true

  • I would like to know what study shows that the max possible is 1 lbs per week? Steve, please show me that study, please. I want to learn. Thankyou

  • 1 pound = 453.59237 grams

  • I don`t believe ...

  • I agree with most of your videos and admire your knowledge in bodybuilding. But come on, u cannot be serious when saying that you can gain a pound of muscle in one week. That is beyond ridicules. That would mean that a person could gain 50lbs of muscle in a year, 500lbs of muscle in 10 years? Come on, not even the biggest body builders in the world can do that with all the roids in the world. Do the youtube world and yourself a favor and redo this video. It takes away from ur creditability.

  • @mynamesmartin SEE BELOW!

  • Only way this might be possible is if your going through puberty and taking steroids at the same time! 1 pound in 1 week is just wrong and false...at least doing it naturally...Maybe he is talking to the roid users out there?

  • @redhunt077 I didn't say in the vidoe YOU WOULD make that much muscle. I said that's the MAXIMUM the body can make in a week. This is for all the assholes who listen to websites and magazine ads telling them they can add 20 pounds of muscle in 2 months!!!!!!!!

  • 1 pound = 453 grams, NOT 100 grams. Having said that, like it has been pointed out by another poster below, I also find it hard to believe that a body can naturally build 1 pound of muscle per week. That is almost 0.5kg. If we were to go by that, then a person would put on 2kg (4.5 lb) of muscle within a month. Multiply that by 10 months and we have 20kg (45 lb) of muscle gain. That, without naturally and without anabolic steroids is IMPOSSIBLE! I am not sure if you meant to say 0.2 lb = 100gram

  • @ElectronixCore he said 1 pound=100 grams, so although it is around 454grams, lets say he meant 100 grams per week. That is 5.2 kg of pure muscle in a year. I must tell you, all natural, you would gain only about 2 kgs of pure muscle. That is 3 hours in the gym every other day. If you were gifted, maybe 3-4. NO WAY IT COULD BE 52pounds. That is 23 kgs of muscle. That will take 10 years flat or more to get. But he said 30LBS in 25 years for himself, so he might've mixed something up.

  • @ElectronixCore u guys are fcking stupid MAXIMUM MUSCLE A WEEK MAXIMUM dosent mean u will put on 1 poud a week if u workout depends on genetics and of course theres a a limit that ur body can grow till

  • @WiShOneKR

What are you on about fuckface? Before you can be taken seriously learn to speak and spell English. Your punctuation is a shocker too. Ever heard of a full stop or comma? I guess not. And NO, it is IMPOSSIBLE for a body to gain 1pound (0.45kg) per week naturally and without substances regardless of it being minimum or maximum. Most people with a basic education and common sense would be aware of that.

  • The 1 pound of muscle a week theory is not always true. If you have "gifted" genetics, you can probably gain twice or triple that amount in a week. These "gifted" people are called Mesomorphs. Check it up on Google.

  • 0.75kg per month is the max amount u can gain (max amount that body is able to produce)

  • A pound of muscle per week? That doesn't sound correct in my opinion. I think a pound of muscle a month would be closer to realistic, and even that would be exceptionally excellent progress.

  • LIFT SOME WEIGHTS AND EAT SOME MEAT 1-2 YEARS ULL BE A TANK.

  • @johnosandra

WOW THANKS FOR THE TIP D00D

  • I've just watched some of your clips and you seem to know what you are talking about. I train hard and have done now for many years, that along with a strict diet and good rest have giving me a lot of gains and a good muscular physic. The problem I have is understanding how it is possible to add 1lb of muscle a week, that would work out as 50+ lbs in one year !?! I have always been told that 14lb of muscle would be the max to add in one year naturally, and it was for me. I'm slightly confused.

  • @jasion jones. people with longer limbs dont mean they have stronger muscle. they may have longer muscle. but if you see a guy with 52" arms but he has a 46" chest he doesnt have that far to go on bench. if you got 52" arms and a 24" chest it might be more difficult for you. but this doesnt mean you are weaker or stronger in any aspect. just worry about your body type and what you need to do to reach your goal.

  • Do u need a calorie surplus to build lean muscle?

  • i have been told by steve somebody who use to be mr universe that i need to consume 400 g of protien a day to take my body to the next level. im 5'11" 175-180 pounds. good physique. fairly strong bench around 275. i want the body builder physique. i refuse to do any drugs and will only be natural. but i want to start competing but im not sure my genetics will allow it. any advice? i train hard. i was also told by him something that contradicts you. "its not about heavy wieghts".

  • @zscrizzle Do people with longer limbs have stronger muscles sich their muscles are longer? Becuase I watched a TV show were a 4"6 guy Benched 300 pounds and it looked like he had a reach of 44"?

  • @zscrizzle im 17 210 pound i bench 140kg sets of ten and i eat about 200-400 grams of meat a day no shakes no roids do boxing which is an insane amount of cardio and i gain weight

  • What is the the best way to get out of a plateue? I have been pretty much at the same strength level for 2 years. I lift about 80% of my max for 4 sets of 6. I weigh 175, and can bench press 290, how can i get past that??? It seems impossible.

i am mainly talking about bench press.

    Thanks.

  • BodyPerformanceTV,

I dont get it, you have one theory in the video, and you're talkin about something different here.

BTW, I'm telling you from my own experience.

  • so one pound is about a 100 grams :)) i hope the rest of your information is more accurate

  • @CptPersia One pounds CONTAINS 100 grams of protein.

  • @BodyPerformanceTV you said :" 1 pound is about a 100 grams!" you didnt tell us of what?!? 100 grams of what? thats why we understood "muscles"

  • @BodyPerformanceTV

so it's true then - people actually hear what they want to lol. You tell him man..

  • even if this is so you imagine....52 weeks a year yes? so 52 lbs of muscle a year thats grate :)

  • @deadheart: My D's fine. I'm actually doing a report on Anabolic Steroids for my Sports Nutrition class. I am not taking a pro/con stand on it, just a neutral, information seeking position. There's just so much conflicting information out there. Just thought I'd ask online to see if I could get some good feedback. So far, you're the only one who commented tho.

  • Is ONE pound a week the maximum if you are using steroids, etc. ? If not, what is the maximum per week you can gain using anything available to you?

  • @milyunair2b damn be careful man. if it aint natural it aint worth it. u wanna keep ur dick dont you?

  • Comment removed

  • Thanks for the info!

  • Steve i thought u said even a restricted diet contains enough protein to rebuilds your muscle..

  • @xxxnicolxxx It does. This is just so show you only need 15 extra grams a day. And a regular diet suppies more than that.

  • @BodyPerformanceTV Thanks for answering all my questions without fail Steve! i need a help here, i hate to count calories. Not that i'm lazy but the country im staying at really doesnt get me anywhere finding an efficient calorie book. Counting every single calories i put into my mouth. I assure you i'm an very active teen exercising on an intense level be it Cardio or weight lifting and i watch my diet closely too. Can you tell me how to ensure i'm on a calorie deficit everyday?

  • @xxxnicolxxx That's going to depend on what you eat and do every day. BUT you really won't know if you're created a deficit until a week or two has passed to see if you've lost any weight. Remember, it's a slow process. And I agree with not watching EVERY calorie you put in your mouth. We just have to be FAIRLY consistent with our eating and exercise. And then be patient to see the results and then make changes as needed.

  • @BodyPerformanceTV I see, thanks Steve! another question, when you talk about cutting calories in your diet intake when losing weight, is it about cutting back on the BMR? because BMR is the amount of calories you need to maintain your weight, i thought. And whats the most calories i can cut back on my daily intake? My BMR is 1700.

  • LOL @ the retards posting below me who can understand simple concepts. He means the MAX is 1 pound a week. It doesn't mean you WILL.

  • hey guys why steve is so psyched about his BlogTalkShow he is hosting and he always answers that?

  • wow, the more videos i watch that you've made, the more confused i get, haha. So from what i see from this video, 15 extra grams of protein a day. That's a lot less than the 1.5 grams per body pound that i have always been told to take. Please explain.

  • @trashbash2001

You just keep adding 15g protein for every pound you want to put on.. At least that's what i think he was trying to say :)

  • @00000Milkshake Nope that is NOT what he is saying. He means 15 extra grams of protein per day to add the MAX of one pound per week. You're getting that with your normal diet, believe me.

  • Hi. I was said a man can only get about one kilo per three mounths. So, where is the truth?

  • Would it be right to assume that the additional 15g of protein is an -excess- over how much proteins you break during the day?

Eg (just throwing numbers) you break down 100g worth of protein, so you need 115g for optimum results? What's the best estimation of how much you break/need?

  • One lbs of muscle is 400g. One lbs a week... yeah, if youre on steroids. Most genetically gifted people on Earth (steroid free) put on maybe 10lbs of muscle a year.

  • @dekouta I didn't say you WOULD make a pound a week. I said that's the MAXIMUM the body could make. So when some asshole on the internet or in a magazine says he put on 10 pounds of muscle in a week YOU'RE smart enough to know the max. he COULD have made was 4 pounds.

  • more drugs walgreen pharmacy lol

  • kaasis, and the other sceptics, have you ever heard of hard training? Aparently, you havent. With hard training, like workin out almost every day, liftin heavy weights, and consuming enough protein, I dont see why you couldnt gain at least 30 pounds of muscle in a year.

  • @killerokiller 30 lbs of REAL muscle is a bit much in one year BUT what you described is exactly how training should definitely occur. 10 pound of solid muscle in a year is definitely possible. Again it depends on the individual, how hard they train, how muscular they already are, etc.

  • i thought there were 450 grams in one pound

  • so, 100g of protein/week = 15grams/day (about two-three slices of turkey breast in the morning)

I can eat 2-3 extra slices of "ham" per day and gain a lb of lean muscle per week? Move out of the way Arnold, Lee and Darin ... in one year I'll whoop'u.

  • what about vince delmonte...he went from 149 to 190 in 6 months and he's lean and ripped, not fat or watery

  • is this guy nuts? I pound every week, that is 52 pounds per year. No human being can add that much muscle, 10 pounds is max if you are natural bodybuilder and gifted.

  • @kaasis85 I DIDN'T Say you WOULD. I said this is the maximum POSSIBLE!

  • @kaasis85 it was a 1 and half min video the information given is right assuming you never plateau your diet and workout is 100% perfect (which it can never ever be). the point was to not be disheartened if you are not gaining 10 lbs a week or even 1 lb a week along as you are making progress naturally appreciate it. it is definitely possible to gain 1lb per week however for someone to maintain that through a year would take immense work and about 40 hours for him to fully explain.

  • @kaasis85 I put on 50 lbs of muscle in 5 months naturally , I have myostatin def.

  • Some article i read said you need to intake 1grm of protein per pound of your bodyweight everyday. Im 150so that means 150grm a day. I had a feeling that was incorrect cuz no way ill be able to consume that much protein

  • @inofe Just marketing hype dude. Ignore it

  • i heard about 3 lbs a month which is almot a pound a week

  • @ryumariscal Yes BUT it doesn't mean you WILL make that much. It just means that's what the body is CAPABLE of making.

  • @BodyPerformanceTV hmm interesting...im having my first bodybuilding competition in 6 months but im laggin size in them...is 6 months enough to gain size on them? if so will one a week trainin them help?

  • @ryumariscal I answered your question on my 5-27-10 BlogTalkRadio show. Go to BlogTalkRadio and search Steve Turano. The show can also be downloaded from iTunes. The most recent shows can also be heard on my website home page (at the bottom) once it uploads. Tell a friend! ~Steve

  • i like what im hearing but im confused, cos a pound is about 450 grams right? not 100g. help!

  • @GamefreakTP 1 pound of muscle contains 100 grams of protein but weighs 454 grams .

  • that can't be right can it? a pound a week?? That means i could gain working at my physical maximum fifty pounds of muscle in a year. I thought it was closer to a pound a month.

  • @jimmy202500 I didn't say you WOULD. I said that is the MAXIMUM.

  • mohamad, you realy are an asshole. He's an expert, for god' sake, its obvious. How can you tell him he's wrong?!

  • This is wrooooooong. You can only put on about 2 pounds of muscle a month (3 if your counting glycogen), unless your a beginner, but the more muscle you have the less you can gain....and imagine if what he is saying is correct....your telling me you can (theoretically) gain 52 pounds of muscle in 1 year? That is laughable. DorianYates (pro bodybuilder) has taken thousands of dollars worth of steroids and his training/diet was PERFECT...it took him 11 years to gain 72 pounds of muscle.

  • @mohammad112388 Thanks for dissecting my 2:00 minute video ASSHOLE. Everybody knows the more you lift, the bigger you are, the older you are, ETC. makes gaining muscle more difficult. This video was for people who simply needed some ACCURATE information on physiology! But your negativity is greatly appreciated.

  • @BodyPerformanceTV

Thanks for calling me an asshole, very appreciated

  • @mohammad112388 Thanks for telling me I'm wrong when I'm right. You don't want the truth or feel the need to criticize, don't watch. Don't throw the first punch if you can't take it.

  • @BodyPerformanceTV

Well you were not right, and I was there to tell you the truth, if you can't handle the truth, make immature comments to make yourself feel better

  • i have a bad back and carnt walk some times so carnt jog any more what workout can i do ? x

  • Oh I believe that's wrong about 100 grams a week for protien. Ok lets say you weigh 230lbs and your about 15% lean body mass. If your only eating 100 grams of Protien a week, you might as well kiss your muscles goodbye lol.

  • im 19, 5'11 and i weigh 170 lbs (not much fat on me at all) ive been training for a year now, and my ideal weight is around 180 - 190 lbs

    is this possible naturally?

  • @trollope4lyf2k8 Sure. But you have to workout! Theres also more great info on my BlogTalkRadio show. Once there search Steve Turano. The show can also be downloaded from iTunes. • @BodyPerformanceTV 15 additional grams of protein on top of I believe you said 45grams for women and 55 for men in another vid?

  • @trollope4lyf2k8 I hate to tell you this man but it's impossible to pack on that much weight without steroids. Why? because are body only creates a certian amount of testosterone. In order to grow. You need to bump up that test level. I am 21yrs 5'7 started out at 145lbs and now wight 201lbs. been HEAVY lifting for about 1 1/2 now. But I use steroids as safe as possible. You use them right and it's just like anything else you wont kill your organs.

  • you seriously think i cant put on a another stone in the course of a year? even though ive already put on a stone and half in one year

my father is 5'7 and he managed to get to get to 180 lbs naturally after 3 years

keep in mind that im 4 inches taller than him and he currently weighs around 230lbs now

im quite positive i can get to 185 - 190 lbs naturally on my highest end

ill get back to you in 2 years

  • @trollope4lyf2k8 @ years bro that's along time! I hit 201lbs in less than a year. Forget about how long it takes to get to 201 or 190lbs. if it take 2 years to pack on 10lbs then imagine how long it will take you to hit 195lbs??? ok for sure hit me up in 2 years and let me know if you hit 190lbs naturally. Not trying to be mean. Btw, if you think that steroids are the easy way out. You got it all wrong buddy. And i'm saying that from experiance.

  • @jaden65532 my computer sucks. I meant two years that's a long time.

  • 100 grams... thats assuming that your body is super efficient and synthesising 100 percent of the protein you are are consuming towards repairing muscles...

  • Does this factor in that your body probably doesn't absorb 100% of the protein you eat each day? What is the maximum that your body can absorb of any nutrients over say 12 hours or so?

  • @jebes909090 No! Theres also more great info on my BlogTalkRadio show. Once there search Steve Turano. The show can also be downloaded from iTunes. The most recent shows can also be heard on my website home page (at the bottom) once they upload. Tell a friend! ~Steve Turano

  • i try to get about 160-175 gram a day and dont gain that one pound

  • @pypox the most muscle you CAN put on in a week is 1 pound..

it doesn't mean that you WILL

  • CALORIES CALORIES CALORIES !!!! I love his videos but this is not right. You can eat as much protein as you want but if you don't eat enough calories you are never going to change your body. You need to move up in weight to build muscle. Trust me if you weigh 126 lbs and you go to weighing 180 lbs at the rate of 1 lb a week you will look diffrent. If you eat lots of protein and not enough calories you will stay at 126.

  • u need only 15 grams of protein a day?
