  • I have to give it up for the "abuse in my family"/"nothing but dessert" scene.

  • "it's blowin peace and free-dom it's blowin you and me!"

  • #5 is soooo funny!!!

  • Man, I hated those vinyl records where I had to make the hole myself. Pocket knives suck for that.

  • @gr82bright The Swiss Army cork screw works best :)

  • likewise im sure

  • #8: Fred Willard is so funny :)

  • My favourite is when M&M are playing 'Next to me' in

    M's kitchen

  • almost

  • I need to hurry and see this movie, Im on a mission, to watch every movie Jane Lynch ever been in!

  • This seems hilarious!

  • So good... right down to the martin guitars... 'is the map on the way' fuk me thats funny

  • McKean's delivery in #7 is amazing, one of the funniest lines in any movie.

  • i have a map, i don't have it with me. .... were you planning on studying it later, just sort of academically??? hahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!

  • He had an amazing......hum

  • I remember Guest and Levy saying on the commentary track that for the scene that's number one (Bob Balaban and Michael Hitchcock arguing about the stage set), they had to cut right after Hitchcock smacked him on the head because the crew completely lost it.

  • ..."a pirate captain his name was Moby Dick. He was chasing some big whale..." Hilarious! Goddamn LOVE Fred W.

  • They're all in it. Learn movies.

  • his names jim

  • I love Jennifer Coolidge's "humming". She plays the dipwad so well.

  • 5 is my favourite.

  • @iliveinroom237 apparently the 37 people who like your comment

  • I love their records... do I see a miles davis parody?

  • wha happened

  • "If you punched a hole in 'em, you'd have a good time."

  • I also recommend getting the DVD, as it has lots of extras, and the commentary is just as funny and entertaining to listen to as the regular movie.

  • This is really an amazing movie, and honestly got snubbed by Lord of the Rings in '03. It's incredibly original, as the actors not only created great comedy, but also composed, conducted, AND sang some excellent music. My favorite of these 10 scenes were #s 10 and 2. To answer the question regarding scripted, most all of the dialogue was improvised. Guest (the director) would tell the actors what the scene was about and guide them towards a goal, but rest was all spontaneous.

  • I do agree about the funniest scene. Two unknown comedians improvising, but I wonder how much improvisation took place and how much was scripted - did Guest and Levy tell them to so all that and for the slap to be the pay-off? Or was that ad-libbed?

  • @dfarmbrough In that specific scene, it was all improvised, if I recall correctly from the commentary. The slap was definatly not expected, as they had to cut away immediatly because the film crew burst out laughing after it happened.

  • @farfolomew You are quite right, I remember hearing that too now.

  • That look of reassurance at :41 is just funny as hell.

  • yeh... thank god for de model train

  • this movie was almost completley improv :D

  • Not sure if I like this more than 'Best in Show', but it's close. The #1 clip on this video is the funniest part of the movie IMO, although the whole thing is hilarious. "Hey, Wha Happened". Brilliant.

  • when you put it that way its almost poetry... almost. hahaha

  • Still the best of all Christopher Guest's movies. Hey Wha Happened!?!?!?!

  • The one dislike must be because we never got to see the Skeletons of Quinto :)

  • number 2 made this movie for me...I was and am a blond female folksinger trapped in the body of a bald male folksinger and i had to let me out...or....i....would....die

  • is that doc cox from scrubs moonlighting as a stage hand ?

  • man that is an awesome chord @ 7:00 before they get stopped

  • HAHAHAHHAA @ 2:58 parker posey crocheting.. why!?!?! never noticed that

  • 5:50 I'm Kent Brockman.

  • Your #3 is definitely my number 1 . . . "...even the LADIES!"

    Fred Willard is hilarious

  • I would have added 2 scenes, the one where the publicist says'"This will be a real challenge for us, because we hate folk music" And when the Main St Singers open with Wandering and Palter says "You were talking to that Bohner kid, the one in the sweater." And when the classic line, "the real song, or some toothpaste commercial, and Christopher Guests says, "At this time, I think they've already brushed their teeth."

    But hey, everyone's a critic.

GREAT JOB on putting this together!!!!

  • This wasn't as consistently funny as "Best in Show" but you did nail most of the highlights. I would have substituted Jane Lynch's character talking about her early days in porn!

  • In honour of... dad.

  • what, were you planning on studying it later academically? LOL!

  • The sketch with Ed Begley Jr. would have been in my top 10.

  • Love this film.... Love all of Guest's movies. One scene left off the list was when The Folksmen are backstage and they hear The New Main Street Singers performing "Wanderin'" on the intercom, their opening number! Being a theatre designer I agree with the #1 choice... Hilarious!

  • I *LOVE* this movie. The music is so good. <3

  • The humming scene is great but the best part of that scene is when Jennifer Coolidge thanks God for model trains because w/o them they wouldn't have gotten the idea for the big trains.

  • I was hoping the scene with Eugene Levy as "Mitch" and the model railroad set would be no. 1. "The town of Crab would look magnificent in the autumn.."

  • I have to disagree that the transvestite (or transsexual) scene is a cheap shot. I think that it is a brilliantly subtle reference. When you look at the Folksmen, the obvious reference is to the Kingston Trio. But when you look at their appearance then and now something seems off. You realize at the end that he is not just a blonde, female folk singer trapped in the body of a bald, male folk singer, the entire group is Peter, Paul, and Mary trapped in the bodies of the Kingston Trio.

  • This movie was so funny, I was so dissappointed by 'For Your Consideration' which just seemed like a blend of 'Mighty Wind' and 'Waiting for Guffman'

  • They go for the cheap laugh there at the end with the transgender thing. Reminds me of Monty Python.

  • @pretorious700 The transgender may be a cheap laugh, but they expain in the DVD that they thought the concert would launch thme back into stardom (Its why they wore tux's for a folk concert). So having them go in the complete opposite direction was what they were looking for. We can agree Harry Shearer the transsexual bass singer ensures zero chance they will never make it.

  • @pretorious700 There's no such thing as a cheap laugh

  • "i always thought there were 12 supreme court judges" fucking hilarious

  • That last clip still cracks me up!

  • I absolutely LOVE all the music in this movie, but sadly, I did NOT like the movie. I never did understand the humor. I don't think I ever understood it. Still don't. But I wish I did. I'm sure I'm missing something.

  • @sshelget Yes, yes you are.

  • @prammaven christopher guest did both movies. actually, the folksmen is the original spinal tap, just a folk version!

  • @janetbot Rob Reiner actually directed Spinal Tap

  • VERY underplayed film. So many subtle laughs, but #2 and #1 - hilarious.

You're missing, however, the final song: "Oh a mighty wind's a blowin', blowin' you and me". Funniest line!

  • @Aragond68 I agree, for me that line is like the punchline of the whole film!

  • @Aragond68 Not only that, but the whole song is actually a fart joke!

  • HYSTERICAL! All of 'em.

  • I always like when they were interviewing the PR people and the woman says, "This will be a real challenge for us, because we hate folk music." Brilliant! That and after they suggest that water pours over the New Main St singers, even the ladies... the expression on Jane Lynchs; face is just perfect

  • my fav movie

  • Goooooinnnnn' hooome... I'm gooooin.....bump, bump, ooooh! LMAO

  • where the hell is CRABAPPLEVILLE?! TOP TEN SCENES CMON

  • The supreme court line always cracks me up.

  • it would teeter crazily on the little spindle

  • I am a blonde female folk singer trapped in the body of a bald male folk singer lol its almost poetry....almost..lmao

  • the hum and the model trains lmao so funny

  • hey wha happen

  • "Do you have a map?"

"I have a map, but I don't have it in the car!"

  • One missing scene in this is the bit with Ed Begley, Jr. using all that Yiddish. That had me crying with laughter.

  • "cuz I don't want you to drive now I don't know where I am."

  • It's not called furniture, it's called a set...

  • if they didn't have the model train, they wouldn't have gotten the idea for the big ones

  • "And that's sexual harassment!!" hahaha

  • this is such a great movie, amazing parody!

  • hahaha 0:31 "No holes in the center of the records"

  • "it would teeter crazily on the little spindle"

  • Haha - I just noticed the bass strapped to the top of the car. lol

  • Funniest moment.......Harry Shearer telling that story and ......"Goodnight Everybody!!"

    AWESOME!!

  • that's my fav part too dude!

  • The guy who proposes the "Hum Toast"...isn't he the NBC executive from Seinfeld?

  • bob balaban. Close encounters of the third kind

  • Balaban had a recurring role on the fourth season of Seinfeld as Russell Dalrymple, the fictional president of NBC

    ....taken from Wikipedia

  • @dcsmooth he also appeared as an NBC executive in the movie "The Late Shift"

  • is that a wire

  • I watched this in the theater, and was surrounded by a bunch of high school age kids who I thought wouldn't get it, but by the middle of the movie the kid behind me was hitting me and we were howling and in tears. We're lucky they didn't haul us out of the theater. Fred Willard and Harry Sherer are fantastic.

  • fred willard is, IMO, the best improv comedian out there. He just comes up with the funniest unscripted shit ever.

  • I fricken love this movie. Every scene is quotable and hilarious.

  • the expression at 9:17 is priceless!

so many funny moments, thx for posting this!

  • 7:30 when fred whispers in his ear. LOL!

  • Jennifer Coolidge humming with her mouth open. lol

  • "By that time, they've already brushed their teeth!" Great line, good job!!

  • I also really like the scene with the flower arrangements and the scene with Ed Begley Jr when he talks about his garage band in Sweden.

  • Hahahaha Fred Willard's brilliant line "I'm not doing much writing but the ideas keep poppin'!"

I was really waiting for the scene you picked for #1. Great choice.

  • They're all hilarious geniuses, but it's Jennifer Coolidge that really slays me. That's when the laughing actually hurts.

  • Eugene Levy is genius in this one. The scene where he is sitting in the hallway waxing philosophic is marvelous....

  • I couldn't agree more. He played a broken man sooo well. Amazing. It's even harder to believe the music that came from this movie. Wanderin' and A Kiss At The End Of The Rainbow are amazing.

  • the scenes I love the best are the scenes that arent overacted. Like the scene when the three are driving and he says he has a map in the other car. Its so funny cuz it seems so natural

  • Fantastically funny film, all of Guest's movies are. I went to church with Parker Posey's parents when I lived in Mississippi, oddly enough. Very nice people.

  • what about "not so tiny tim"?

  • Fantastic movie. I can't get my friends to see it -- they say, "I don't like folk music." I say, "It's a comedy, it's funny, you don't have to like folk music." Gee whiz. In any case, hilarious film!

  • Yeah, I have a hard time explaining Guest's movies...I always end with something like "yeah, but, see, he's kinda making fun of a lot of this stuff," and then I give up and spend the rest of the day despondent---anyway! Great movie, yes.

  • despondent? Jesus, if they don't get it, who cares, you do, and that's good enough. These guys are comedic geniuses.

  • read my comment below to "darkprose." if they don't get it THEY'RE blowing it. Enjoy it-it's fabulous.

  • The hard part is choosing only ten moments - I love this entire movie, start to finish. It is one of the few movies that can make me laugh out loud, again and again. I also love the music and had to buy the soundtrack.

  • The humming was great but the best part of that seen was Jennifer saying how lucky we were to have the model trains....so we could get the idea for the big trains.

  • The funniest movie of all time. Just brilliant.

  • 1:47 - pure brilliance from Jennifer Coolidge.

  • "Goodnight, everybody!"

I'd forgotten that one. Good thing I wasn't drinking anything at the time.

  • thank you !!!!!! i love these guys!!!
