I take it the replacement of this guitarist with the new one rersulted in a distinct reduction in temp of this great number. The newer slower versio is much better imo.
@neorich59 Saw them at Deaf institute Mcr last night - a few hundred max. Agreed Bass=excellent. But all shone.
The set wasn;t as well received as expected. The city is currently ful of proper musos execs for ITC fest and crowd seemed to cool for school. Acouple of sound issues too but for myself 3 rows back standing I absorbed and was lifted. My friend is now converted too.

Not very often you hear something as complex as this in which the live version sounds more or less identical to the studio version. Can't get enough of the chorus - ¡guapisima!
had to watch a live performance from Everything Everything in order to figure out how they would work the song when performing outside of the studio. could be that their live performance is even more amazing than their performance on the album. one word to sum up this band? TALENT.
@rdbilly Your comments are so misguided and contradictory it's embarrassing. Firstly, you think this cretin is singing from the heart? He's trying so hard to sound 'different' you can't understand half of what he's saying; oh yeah, he's a real Bob Dylan! I'm also sure the word 'cool' has never entered this band or their fans vocabulary. And 're-stewed eighties hits'; everyone's been lamenting how they sound like XTC. What were you saying again?
@braidy1979 wow. you sound like you have an excellent taste in music. i mean i totally agree, if i can't understand what he's saying then i can't relate to the music at all.
NOT please don't be so ignorant as to suggest that the fact that you can't understand some of his words ruins his voice. some of the best modern music acts today like Beirut and Battles contain lyrics that can hardly be understood, not to mention Sigur Ros who don't even sing in English. these guys = TALENT
Intelligent responses there, quite an argument. I didn't realise the comments page was just for obsequious fashion and culture victims. Still, music is completely subjective; if you want to listen to someone who sounds like Sonia from Eastenders having an asthma attack, knock yourselves out...
Truly the most appalling vocals imaginable. I had to see it to believe it after hearing this incredibly irritating song on the radio. How on earth can this helium influenced lobotomy be misconstrued as pleasing on the ear. I cannot remember a more annoying band since Shampoo or Busted. Is this what music has come to? Awful!!!
@braidy1979 No what music has come to is the dreary shit you hear on xfactor/Britgotnotalent etc not to mention most radio stations, re-stewed eighties hits sung by talentless morons who are so busy trying to look cool they forget what they are singing about. What were you saying again?
I've got to say I expected it to be poor based on the previous comment, but actually it's an extremely tight live rendition, especially for an inexperienced band. The singer copes far better with fast-paced lyrics live than, say, Bloc Party ("Ares" live is shambolic). Is it only me who is reminded of a young Thom Yorke?
Yeah, kinda loses it live. Still tight, but the lead vocalist can't reproduce what he recorded with the same clarity. Mind you, with the pace of the lyrics, I'm not surprised. Great musicians. Still addicted to this song.
@gainestillinger you wanna watch the radio 1 live lounge video, everything is like perfect, apart from the first line, thats a bit iffy but still it's alot better than this :)
at last after 35 years the public are starting to get progressive music, this song is based on the music of gentle giant a early seventies band ,yet this band still sound ahead of their time
this song was playing in the Boat Party in inbetweeners, it was awesome to know it was playing straight away :D

I agree there's a massive 80's vibe going on here, Level 42 comes to mind as well as XTC and Tears for Fears.
But then it seems they're not alone on that score, given that the Scissor Sisters have come up with a whole album based on the notion.
This is quite adventurous and tough technically to sing..
I didn't enjoy this performance as much as the one I saw on Jools tonight, but like many a song, maybe it works better in a more intimate setting?
