  • Pope Benedict XVI used this very diamond-encrusted chalice in the Feast of the Solemnity of Mary the Mother of God, January 1st 2012.

  • Verdadeiro discípulo de Jesus.

  • His pronunciation of the Latin is amazingly good. He also REALLY sounds like he MEANS it. I am not Catholic, but hearing this was deeply moving.

  • @baroqueboy But you know Latin? :)

  • Bellissima la preghiera in Latino molto emozionante.

  • The congregation is quiet. No flashes of cameras or clapping, or conversations. It looks like they're actually there to worship.

  • Now that you're with The Our Father in Heaven, pray for me sinner Blessed John Paul II!

  • I wish I could stil hug and kiss the goog holy man! He perfumed himself in the scent of God.

  • santo súbito

  • santo subito

  • What a lovely voice. What a lovely man. R.I.P. and God bless Your Holiness, you are sorely missed today. <3

  • what a great man he was

  • catholics... so close yet so far away... all this cerimony for nothing. praising mother mary and performing pegan rituals for nothing... understand that you dont even teach from the bible and not accepting the holy spirt which is the WHOLE of the new testimant... so what does catholic teach? nothing and it will always remain a nothing cerimony... FALSE RELIGION

  • @rompmyg Why dont you read schott hahn - will give you something to think/pray about...

  • @evitapredki why dont you read the bible

  • @rompmyg oh, i do :) everyday, its the Love letter to me from my God!! In his books, Scott, one of the greatest protestant theologians, discusses his struggle of how through studying the Bible he was trying to prove Catholicism false and hate it using the same exact arguments you gave ('pagan rituals', Mary, etc.), the more truths (Eucharist, Sacraments, etc.) were being revealed to him.

  • vc tem essa liturgia da eucaristia em latim p me enviar?

    grato!

  • For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until He comes. Therefore, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy way will be guilty of sin against the body and blood of the Lord. (1 Cor. 11:26-27 HCSB). Notice how Paul says that it is the Bread and Cup of the LORD, not his body and blood. You are a hypocrite.

  • @Menechem 'When we eat this bread, and drink this cup, we proclaim your death LORD Jesus Christ until you come in glory', is what we say in Mass. It is based off of Paul's words in 1 Cor. 11, Paul did not teach cannibolism, rather he taught a memorial.

  • @Menechem I find it interesting that you say that THE LORD has revealed the answer to you. Surely you do an injustice to the ecumenical councils devoted to prayer, meditation and theology that arrived at decisions like transubstantiation, the filioque clause and other doctrinal issues. Your decision to accept only Nicaea is in itself a doctrinal (albeit purely personal) statement. Martin Luther's grounds for dissension were similar in nature.

  • ROME WILL WIN....... LONG LIVE THE POPE

  • @PInk77W1 Rome will not win! I take the word of God Literally, but I still realize that there are metaphors in his word, for example, John 6. You serriously need to do an indepth study of His word with out your preconcieved Catholic notions and be open to the Holy Spirit. BTW, Baptism is only valid if one has full comprehension of who Jesus is, what Baptist is, and if they are Born Again! One cannot be baptized as a child, this is unScriptural!

  • @Menechem with all due respect. i disagree with u 100%... baptism is good for kids because God saves us we dont think our way into heaven... it is Gods grace.... Gods grace works just fine for a 2 day old baby... unless of course u think u save yourself by "accepting" Gods grace..... so what is it.? there is nothing we can do to earn salvation...? or we must accept Gods grace to be saved? u cant have it both ways... yes ROME WILL WIN

  • Time for crackers and wine again? Christ said do as a memorial, not as an actuality! John 6 is a metaphor for how a believer should live, not to be a cannibal. My LORD and saviour is God Almighty, not bread soaked in wine (if you're Orthodox/Byzantine you know what I'm talking about), nor is he a glass of wine and a cracker! The church teaches not to take the Word literally yet they twist John 6. I do take the word literally, but I understand that there are metaphors in it as well!

  • Who is the Byzantine bishop to the right of the Pope?? He's wearing Greek-Catholic vestments. He's not Melkite, because Melkite bishops do not wear the pallium with the omophorion.

  • Dear Catholics, Vatican II was illegal, and the "popes" from 1958 on all frauds. The real Pope was held prisoner within the Vatican walls and his name was Giuseppe Siri, His Holiness Gregory XVII. You are worshipping a new world order/new age impostor.

  • @rooizilver That was long ago and Jesus told us to forgive those who sinned against us. We are not worshiping any new world, we are not even worshiping any new age of impostor. We only worship one entity, it is God the highest. The popes didn't give us the teachings, it is the founder of this Church that gave us the teachings and His name is Jesus Christ.

  • @georgebur You might have a hearing problem. The sound is of a handbell to call to attention.

  • @georgebur I didn't knnew that some kind of ignorance can still have a rights to live without parents :-) well long education is waiting :-) about legacy of our culture,history and civilizations and I'm far from my christians roots :-) and beliefes. bless u when u will understand it :-) in nomine patri et fili et spiritu sancti :-)..

  • @Jacekb51 Culture, history, civilisations, roots - sounds like a whole lot of tradition to me. In fact I did not know that they had telephones a couple of thousand years ago - I knew about the Latin but that is now a dead language for all but octagenarians like Joseph Ratzinger. But then the Universe is about 14 billion years ago and this is just recent traditions I am afraid to say.

  • @georgebur it was Jesus callin'....he wants the gold cups back lol

  • @georgebur

    1Peter 2:1 Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings, 2 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby: 3 If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious.

    3:15 Be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you.

  • @dies1domini

    Amen my friend. people like georgebur aren't interested in polite conversation or brotherly disccusion. their only aim is to offend. sad that such people call themselves christians

  • @georgebur C. S. Lewis once wrote "Christianity, if false, is of no importance, and if true, of infinite importance. The only thing it cannot be is moderately important." So, investigate further. One way is Alpha course

  • @kulac At the moment I am on a weight reduction programme. Then I will be taking up sport again. I do read widely but on interesting and current topics. This is a museum!

  • @georgebur Talking about God and religion is talking about your origins, life and death. It is as personal as this and if this is not current, relevant or interesting to you, I do not know what is.

  • @georgebur Not to mention, the fact that they go against the Word of God!

  • @georgebur irrelevance? 2000yrs winning streak. with no end in sight. Not to mention more priceless stuff than in any place in the world. ROME WILL WIN

  • @PInk77W1 Win what and when? Looking around today, I see so much ground to be made up - and that is because of failings of senior clergy today.

  • @georgebur ground to b made up, of course. But if u r catholic u should know this. That Jesus set up the church in such a way that, NOTHING can hurt it! NOTHING. Not even senior clergy. Every power on earth for the last 2000yrs has tried and has failed. IF the pope were arrested and sent to prison tomorrow, nothing would change. LONG LIVE THE POPE

  • @PInk77W1 In relatively recent times, the people were forced to go to church! Even in the 1950s shops did not open, entertainment did not happen. You are wrong to say "every power" tried to hurt the church, but that is quite incorrect. The majority of powers have tried to co-opt the church to fulfill their own agendas, and this would include nearly all royalty - for example the Russian Tsars. Have you not heard of the "divine right of kings"?

  • @georgebur "in relatively recent times people were forced to go to church" by whom? u do not say. i have heard of the divine right of kings, i dont think that is a catholic dogma, correct me if i am wrong. Yes every power on earth has tried and failed to stop the catholic church. China is trying it now and will fail. Cardinal Kung from Shanghai was imprisoned for decades for being Catholic!!!!!

  • @PInk77W1 'The divine right of kings asserts that a monarch is subject to no earthly authority, deriving his right to rule directly from the will of God. The king is thus not subject to the will of his people, the aristocracy, or any other estate of the realm. According to this doctrine, since only God can judge an unjust king, the king can do no wrong. stowed earthly power on the king, just as God had given spiritual power and authority to the Church, centering on the Pope.' Wikipedia

  • @georgebur Problem with divine right of kings seems to be there are few if any kings left.!? The pope is still going strong. The monarchy of UK has no power let alone divine right. The pope on the other hand is a head of state and no govt. can tell him anything. So much for divine right of kings. Still wondering what u mean when u assert that people were FORCED to go to church?

  • @PInk77W1 Well the octagenarian pope is still going at least, and long may his health hold out for him. At his age, I would rather be in a retirement village playing croquet and bridge. Whoops that was the phone again. Anyway, the pope may indeed be one of the last kings / emperors / whatever that believes he has divine rights. As you say, noone can tell him anything! Attendances at churches were once so high that coercion must have been the only motivator.

  • @georgebur No coercion must not b the only motivator. It may have been, but not must have been. Even if the octagenarian pope dies tomorrow we get a new one. The truth is this pope handed in his resignation papers to the last pope 3 x and the last pope said no.

  • @PInk77W1 I have heard that the previous octagenarian pope depended heavily on Ratzinger and clearly he needed to lean on someone. It is clear that Benedict is the smarter of the two. Talk about a job for life!

  • @georgebur People forced to go to church included slaves. Did you know the priesthood and nuns in the US had slaves? In the news recently.

  • @georgebur so? do not blame the Church for those guys!

  • @SuperAngelofglory The Church is the people.

  • @georgebur but the people are less than the church

  • The dossology ("per ipsum cum ipso et in ipso") and all the eucristic prayer was cut off...

  • @pomatzu You are right but I have not the original dvd.

  • Requiescat in pace Ioannes Paulus PP. II

  • so beautiful, how glad we are Catholics to have such a Church,como somos felizes de pertencer a uma Igreja tao bela,se essa nao é a Igreja de Cristo nao sei qual é...

  • I love PJPII very much...

  • I wish my progressive parish would share with us a Latin Mass every month :(

  • Muito lindo esse video. Ele demonstra a força que tem uma Missa e um bom sacerdote com que a celebra com amor e fé.

  • This is an excerpt of "Coronation High Mass" , written by W.A. Mozart and recorded in Saint Peter's Basilica, available on DVD by Deustche Grammophon. Recorded in the eighties, with analog video system and stereo digital sound, it's a masterpiece. Mr. Karajan conduction, few years prior his death, is flawless, powerful, and plenty of passion.

  • @logica10 Great soprano on this recording - Kathleen Batlle .. wow

Amen

  • Pai nosso, que estais no céu,

    santificado seja o Vosso nome;

    venha a nós o Vosso reino;

    seja feita a Vossa vontade,

    assim na terra como no céu.

    O pão nosso de cada dia nos dai hoje;

    perdoai as nossas ofensas,

    assim como nós perdoamos a quem nos tem ofendido;

    e não nos deixeis cair em tentação,

    mas livrai-nos do mal.

Tenta nao misturar as coisas. Pax Vobiscum !

  • (Our Father in Latin)

    Pater noster, qui es in cælis, sanctificétur nomen tuum. Advéniat regnum tuum. Fiat volúntas tua, sicut in cælo, et in terra. Panem nostrum cotidiánum da nobis hódie, et dimítte nobis débita nostra sicut et nos dimíttimus debitóribus nostris. Et ne nos indúcas in tentatiónem, sed líbera nos a malo. Amen.

  • Pater noster, qui es in caelis:

    sanctificetur Nomen Tuum;

    adveniat Regnum Tuum;

    fiat voluntas Tua,

    sicut in caelo, et in terra.

    Panem nostrum cotidianum da nobis hodie;

    et dimitte nobis debita nostra,

    Sicut et nos dimittimus debitoribus nostris;

    et ne nos inducas in tentationem;

    sed libera nos a Malo.

  • Thank you nathandg0924. I'm trying to learn this prayer in Latin and it's very helpful to be able to read what I'm singing. Thanks again!

  • @nathandg0924 AMEN AMEN AMEN

  • This is the "High Mass", recorded by Deutsche Grammophon in 1985 in accordance with the Holy See. Mozart's "Coronation Mass" was conducted by H. Karajan in this recording. Karajan, who was catholic, also controlled the artistic production of this recording, and he decided to leave most important parts of the Mass. "Praeceptis salutaribus moniti.." is the same invocation than in the Tridentine Mass. In spite this is Novus Ordo, is quite solemn and traditional.

  • At 3:18 you see ad hear the ''Cappella Sistina'' chanting the ordinary parts of the mass. This ''Cappella Sistina'' is the choir of the Popes. I have the CD of this mass and this choir was present also in that occasion. But if you try to look at 5:28 you see the majestic figure of an old von Karajan that order the attack of ''Agnus Dei''. Enjoy.

  • which musical setting of the Pater Noster is this?

  • This is called Gregorian chant and it is traditional in the Latin Church for liturgical services (Mass, Vespers, etc.)

    The most popular Gregorian chant is perhaps this one of the Pater Noster and it is adapted also to the modern translations like Italian.

  • I ment what is the name of this setting. I hear it used all the time but I dont know the name of it. Gregorian chants for the ordinary parts of the mass are usually classified by a number in modern times (Credo III is most popular Nicene Creed setting). I wonder how old this music is. Many chants are newer some are ancient

  • I am not an expert and I can speak only from my experience: this is the only setting I have heard here in Italy. However I have found the book Gregorian Missal of Solesmes monks, where for the first time I have seen mentioned different settings of Pater Noster (pag. 41-43). The one heard here is the first proposed in this book. The other two are called alternate tones.

  • i realised dat at da right side of da pope, there's an eastern rite clergy....am I right? da vestment seemed so different from the latin rite clergy...

  • yes thats correct. the catechism of the Catholic Church recognizes 7 distinct but equal rites within the church (ccc 1203)

  • Definitivamente JPII si sentia la liturgia y a la Iglesia...

  • This video made me realize again how beautiful and Holy the New Rite is, no matter what the people say.

    Amazing!

  • this one is but the tridintine rite is the best

  • There is only 1 rite: the Roman rite which has two forms, the ordinary and extraordinary form.

  • Wikipedia adds to his source: AS A SALESMAN.

    But both the sources Wikipedia cites have the same wording '[he] had to work in the Solvay chemical factory to earn his living ...'

    Where does come from the detail 'as salesman'.

    These are details found in an CV:

    - Spring 1942: Transferred to Solvay chemical plant.

    - Academic Year 1943-1944: Second year of theology studies. Continues to work in the Solvay chemical plant.

    - August 1944: ... He continues his studies but not his work at Solvay.

  • Wikipedia cites this source:

    His Holiness John Paul II: Short Biography (Holy See Press Office)

    The Nazi occupation forces closed the university in 1939 and young Karol had to work in a quarry (1940-1944) and then in the Solvay chemical factory to earn his living and to avoid being deported to Germany.

    In 1942, aware of his call to the priesthood, he began courses in the clandestine seminary of Krakow, run by Cardinal Adam Stefan Sapieha, archbishop of Krakow.

  • Sanctus est!

  • This is a priceless treasure. Thanks for posting this!

  • hes singing the Pater Noster in heaven with the angels now + Pax et Bonum +

  • Amen

  • whens the pope going to celebrate Mass in the Extraordinary Rite? Pope Benedict I mean :D

  • dont hold your breath

  • yes you are so right GOD bless you

  • We have seen Masses now more than ever on abuses and blasphemies than ever before. Pope Paul VI was weak and the smoke of Satan has definately entered the church...thats what paul VI said, and....duuurrrh! Whay you think that is! Novus Ordo is watered down and Protestant.

  • If you do not accept Vatican II, then stop calling yourself a Catholic.

  • I accept it but that doesn't mean I have to like it.

  • @BlackCappa I do not accept any council after Nicea (there are however some aspects I will accept). The LORD led me out of paganism into Christianity! My bishop wanted me in the priesthood (so dd I), now the LORD has called me as a pastor, to preach the WORD, not paganistic doctrine like purgatory and sacraments!

  • @Menechem Read the Bible. Read the Church Fathers. Read the early documents. Read the Doctors of the Church. Read the Catechism. Read history. Read theology. Read the Bible. If you still believe the beliefs of the Roman Catholic Church are unbiblical and paganistic after reading all these things, I cannot help you. It is one thing to NOT believe in something because of misunderstanding (your case) and another because of a lack of faith (the case for atheist Biblical historians and scholars).

  • @KevinYohanUm I do read the Bible daily, I was born Jewish and raised Catholic. I have studied church documents, history, and doctrine! I was in private classes with the Bishop as he wanted me to go into the Priesthood. Transubstantiation was not a doctrine of the Church until Constatine III. The church teaches that the Word of God is in the words of man and thus we are not to take it literally, thus why do you always take John 6 literaly? I Take his word lit., but I know there are metaphors too

  • @Menechem Indeed, transubstantiation was not doctrine until much later, until it was fully understood and explicated by church leaders. However, it WAS made into doctrine because of convincing evidence of such a belief having been in place much earlier. The most obvious such document is the letter of Justin Martyr to the Emperor. In other words, it is through apostolic tradition that we believe in transubstantiation.

  • @KevinYohanUm First of all, Justin Martyr is not Scripture, is He? Secondly we know that this was not taught by Christ as He would have served His Flesh and Blood instead of serving Matzah and Wine at the Pesach table. He also would not have said DO THIS IN MEMORY OF ME. Paul Reiterates what he 'received from the LORD' in 1 Cor. 11 in regards to eating the bread and remembering His body, and drinking the wine, and remembering the blood. When we eat this BREAD, and DRINK THIS CUP...

  • @Menechem "He would have served His flesh and blood"........ is this your opinion or scripture?

  • @PInk77W1 Scripture, as Scripture shows quite clearly that he gave them bread and wine and said do in MEMORY OF HIM (Matthew, Mark, Luke, 1 Corinthians).

  • @Menechem he gave them bread and wine, nobody disagrees with that..... but he said

    "THIS IS MY BODY" u just dont believe Him. Catholics do

  • @PInk77W1 Why then would he say right after that it was a memorial? Why also would Paul state in 1 Corinthians 11, When we Eat this Bread and drink this cup, instead of saying when we eat his body and drink his blood? Need I remind you of Catholic teaching in regards to Scripture, Scripture is the Word of God in the Words of man, in other words we are not to take it literally. So why does your cult always take this portion of Scripture literally?

  • @Menechem some times the bible is to be taken literally and sometimes it is not.. Jn 6 is literal. Jesus is the true word of God, the bible is just the word of God in secondary way.. Remember when Jn 6 half the people left Jesus over this bread wine issue... If u were right and the pope is wrong... then Jesus should of told the people "hey i was just speaking symbolically" but we have nothing like that... Jesus said " this is MY body" he meant it

  • @PInk77W1 John 6 is the Word of God in the Words of man according to your church. Your church is truly hypocritical. If he meant it he would not have said do this in remembrance of me.

  • @Menechem he said do THIS in remembrance of me. THIS not something else. what does this mean?

    THIS is my body. That is what catholicism teaches. "THIS is my body". u dont believe Jesus

  • @PInk77W1 Please tell me you're not that dunce to understand what the difference between a memorial and an actuality is, are you? Transubstantiation is not biblical, it was not church doctrine until Innocent III! You're a waste of time I am done with you!

  • @Menechem dunce is a pejorative way of calling people dumb.. it comes from the name DUN SCOTUS one of the smartest guys to ever live. ..when something becomes church doctrine is not near as important as the fact that it is church doctrine. .....a memorial can be an actuality.. Jesus said "this is my body" that is biblical that is Transubstantiation

  • @PInk77W1 Someone in the Catholic Answers forum mentioned something interesting. The topic was on what Bible the pope uses. He said, "Obviously, according to the anti-Catholic Protestants, the pope uses a super secret Bible wherein Jesus clarifies in John 6 that he's only being symbolic and then passes on a book (i.e. the Bible as we know it today) to his disciples, all the while warning that his followers would be misled for 1500 years by something evil called the Catholic Church." =D LOL

  • @KevinYohanUm my guess is the pope uses many many bibles. he may have a favorite, but i think he uses a lot of different ones. Jn 6 symbolic is atheism

  • @Menechem Concerning your denial of any council after Nicaea, I am curious why you accept that particular council and not others. Many of my Protestants resort to the same answer when I tell them the Bible as a canon was compiled around that time, but what is your rationale? By the way, please don't think I'm attacking you in any personal way. I am just curious and with the best of intentions pray that you will return home to the Church.

  • @KevinYohanUm You are twisting my words I said quite clearly, I denounce councils after Nicea, but there is some good teaching to be found in them, in other words I am saying that they are not entirely bad but for the most part the are wrong. The Bible was compiled as a cannon back in 300, you need to do your history studies. after the council of Nicea the Orthodox Church split because you added to the Word of God (Maccabees and the other books) and to the Creed (from the Father and the Son).

  • @Menechem "he who hears you hears me, he who rejects you rejects me" Lk 10:16

  • @PInk77W1 I have heard him, I heard him quite clearly, 'Come out of her my people', Revelation 18.

  • @Menechem "no revelation is based on private interpretation." i think the bible says

  • @Menechem I'm sorry. I never said you did not denounce the counclis after Nicaea. However, you have answered my question sufficiently. You do not accept any councils after Nicaea. At least, that is how I am understanding you. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Even if the Bible as you say was compiled as a canon in 300 (historical records suggest a slightly earlier time frame at around the second century), it seems to me ahistorical to disregard apostolic succession.

  • @KevinYohanUm Pray all you want, but The LORD lead me out of the cult, I live in him and am rooted in His Word, not the false teachings of Catholicism!

  • @KevinYohanUm 2 Timothy 3:10-17, If mans doctrine does not line up with Scripture, do not follow it! You will never see me return to the Roman Catholic Cult!

  • @Menechem Also, while the great schism did occur over the filioque addition, Maccabees were not a contentious issue. The books are included in the Orthodox canon* (not cannon =D). Calling the Roman Catholic Church a cult is surely excessive, as Christianity as a whole, especially in the West, has been preserved by it. I am curious as to what your denomination is as evangelicals are certainly not biblical (once saved, always saved; faith and faith alone; pastors like Joel Osteen).

  • You think it's right to comment that and do you have any faith? Consider the people watching this video! I find your comment rather offensive and ignorant!

    (please don't get offended with my comment)

  • r u referring to my comment? I think u have gone too far, my friend...I myself am a Catholic.....:D

    I was just curious...as I'm from a Latin rite Catholic church n never been to other rites...

  • graziee , for post this wonderful video

    pope sanctae karol wojtyla , thanks

    beautiful videoo

    5 stars for u
