However, if you hold onto dollars in this situation, you might go from having $5,000 in cash to $500. If the dollar becomes completely worthless there will be a new currency to replace it, then you sell your gold for the new currency. Trade a gold coin for a loaf of bread? This isn't wampum dumbass, it's gold.

Such as, "Is that real"? "Is this a joke"? "Will you REALLY give me that coin if I can guess the answer to within 25%? @inkey2 understandable. and you cant peg a price on gold, because it fluctuates due to the fact that it used used for so many other forms of industry than just money. gold certificates is pretty close to the draconian "barter and trade" system, the reason for it being phased out just as i described to you. i like the idea, but it wouldnt be possible in this day and age. the "majority" probably dont understand what ive been tellin you.

As far as what you say about certificates have to represent actual gold,,,,well ....the money now represents "actual nothing". @LastPhyrexian how can paper money represent a theoretical gold value when it is not backed by gold?....of course you can trade paper money for gold, it was done by the federal government in the 1930s when they confiscated gold from citizens and paid them with paper money. The government could just buy gold now from gold dealers in the usa with paper money. As for not enough gold to back the dollar? Just suppliment it with silver.....the USA used to have gold and silver certificates.

This just confirms that gold is NOT in a bubble. When gold and silver were soaring in 79-80 it was all over the news everyday, everybody was talking about it, buying futures, get rich quick schemes, everyone was melting down their silverware, silver coins etc. It hasn't happened yet this time.
