Yes, it is superb but it's not the 1957 version, it's the 1963 version. I know this because I have owned it in its stereo version, however I prefer the mono mix as heard here.
I bought it in1966 on the Sue label and wore it out. It still sounds great!
Also - with respect - Elmore was a great blues singer so perhaps' 'bluesman' is a better term than slide guitarist.
i own the 1957 version...it was first released on the Chief label then picked up for national distribution by the then-larger Vee-Jay label and its this label i own......

why do people act like blues and old music needs to be heard on vinyl? the shit just has worse sound quality, thats it....if elmore james had the chance to record better quality onto CD he would....because in actuality THATS how it was meant to sound...when he played live there weren't pops n' shit...I don't have a problem with vinyl but it's not as great as all these douches make it out to be
I agreed with you at a younger age, but now I can hear beyond the superficial imperfections. maybe it's just one of those things, like appreciating antiques...
@NotSoUniversal I think it's just because it sounds older when you hear all of the "pops" and "scratchin's". Remember, back then those "pops" and "scratchin's" were part of the program. Some people just can't let go of that shit.Maybe it's like when you smell" that" smell that takes you back to your childhood. I personally think it adds to the "Flavor" of it. And ALWAYS remember.Music is subjective. That,.my friend is what makes the world go round.
@NotSoUniversal They usually have to re-master an old song to get it to sound decent on a cd, and that's where the problems begin. A really good re-mastering like they did with Robert Johnson's songs some years ago just made me even more in awe of his guitar playing, but other bad re-mastering jobs sanitize the music like it went through a dry cleaner. Plus analog sound has a fullness that digital just doesn't have.
this music hurts me to ibn a bad way but I HAVE to listening it because of my dad

I think Jeremy Spencer must have spent a lot of time sitting in front of spinning Elmore James Sue 45's.
