Aahh...this track is really really god. My hobby is to rediscover all those other great bands from the 60s that didn´t reach "the really high level". It´s a fantastic musical treasure. Listen (Youtube) for example to:
THE ZETTLERS and their versions of "Skinnie Minnie" and "Beautiful Delilah"
Really f....g good with a bloody driving beat.
THE GOLLIWOGS and the tune "Tell me". Check up the singer...Yes, it´s him!!!
I feel like some child that has been deprived of chocolate all my life and now find myself in the damn Hershey factory with all this music. 30 days in the Hole has been one of my fav's for years and NOW discovering all this.
This is a cool ass song. Fits someone I know very well.
WOW!!!!! Rock on Peter Frampton!! He is still my absolute fave muso and great to see in this clip. I didn't appreciate Humble Pie until recently, but have always admired Frampton's longevity and obvious talent, long may it reign! Let's face it todays music is pretty crap. Thank God for like minded folks!
This is an August 1968 hit ? Thought Steve still with the Small Faces as they were on tour around November/December 1968 He quit them near March 1969 Was he playing with both bands Can anyone clarify this ?
"one of my favorite vocalists was Steve Marriott" " I remember going to Sacramento auditorium to watch Humble pie perform and Marriott would throw his voice out into the audience in just the most R&B rock way. I really, really loved his voice. What an amazing singer. it was a tragedy that we lost him, but he was something else. said Journey frontman Steve Perry.
This IS 1968. The second album with the white cover w/ the sketch on it came out in Aug 69. I saw them late Aug 69 at the Filllmore East opening for Santana. They were touring in support of that white album. It was the first night the Pie played in the U.S. They blew everyone away . Been a fan ever since.
@gliedo I agree this has to be 69 the single for this track and their first album As Safe as yesterday is, came out about the same time. i know because my girlfriend at that time bought me the album about the end of August 69. i still have it, and the girlfriend over 40 years later.
Song I have not seen in a long time "Home And Away" it was on LP with a lot of other great songs. Like to hear that . Like to find it. Oh yeah, it was
Greg Ridley, master of bass. Another great export from Cumbria, along with Mike Harrison of VIPs ,Spookey Tooth & more !! I must say, this is the most power-packed video on Youtube at the moment. It just doesn't get better than this.
HUGE HP fan. I love the 3 vocalists trading verses.RIP Steve and Greg! Thank you for the great tunes! Saw Peter 2 summers ago..........he's still got it!!
I think this is from 69, not 68. Steve was still with the Small Faces in 68 and his hair was not this long at that time, so I'm sayin' this must be '69. Still great.
@kapetanj No. Ronnie Lane wasn't in this group. He was in The Small Faces as a bass player with Steve Marriott (the singer/guitarist in the centre)...
With two equally good but contrasting guitarists, three lead vocalists and thumping rhythms, it seems almost bizarre that this talented band never made it big. Were they too far ahead of their time to be appreciated back then?
The Drivin Boogie is what it is all about and it will stand the test of time in music as long as you can have that smooth even train rollin sound to the song it can
accomplish any type of beat just keep that motor runnin and drive it on home.
Steve Marriott 19 years RIP and his legacy lives on in the great trail of music he made with the Small Faces and Humble Pie - brilliant songster guitarist and vocalist.
