I love those old cars with the wicker seats and ceiling fans. Once in a while I go see them at the transit museum in Brooklyn. Great place and the old cars still smell the same.
Ah how sweet. I road the Dyre Av IRT line every day to my Manhattan HS from 1957-1961 - these are the trains I road most. The new stainless came on line about 1960 I believe. Thanks for the memories.
Momo; yeah, they were nice. The ones that were old then had rattan woven seats. But idiots would slash them so now riders suffer with molded plastic. Switchblade proof. However they were dirty and crowded so the seats were usually taken - no matter how nice they were. A token was 10 and 15 cents. What is it now?
Momo; Where do you go to school? I went to H.S. of Art and Design in mid Manhattan. I'd catch the 7:15 am from Dyre Av and barely make it into my classroom before the 8:15 late bell. $2.00- that's rough.
@macpduff lmao its 2.25 to get on if u have a metrocard, if u dont then u have to purchase a 2.50 single ride, or a multiple ride metrocard. They really rose the prices severely, plus there is really no such things as tokens anymore.
Great video. I remember taking one of those trains at Fordham road in the Bronx when they ran as elevator trains. I guess I'm revealing my age-oops! ANGELO
The look on everyones faces when they enter the platform must be Priceless!!!!

I always did like those trains. The black browish ones I rode on a lot in The Late 60's and Early 70's.

Hehehe, don't worry about age, I'm 40 and remember that train rocket past my kitchen window until its demise in 1973.

@dispatcher484 I also remember riding on the Bronx part of the 3rd Ave. EL before it was replaced by the bus.
