I don't like it when the PowWow announcer interrupts the song as though he's up there selling cattle. Why do they do that, and when did it begin? It ruins the song, and I hope someone says something to change this.
my teacher mike is on the left, just past the man in brown. GO MIKE! i hope you make good at the grammy's this year!! i will be asking Waagoosh to bring my prayer to the creater for you!
U.N.I.T.Y. is going to Oklahoma this summer of 2007. Natives from all over the nation will be there with their tribe. Come meet new people, share your culture. Their will be entertainment; food and dances. Their will also be workshops for college and health...Last year UNITY went to Buffalo, NY, and it was fun. Research some more about it. See you there!
Its good 2 C some more Anishinabeg championz!!! Keep it up boyz, ya'll were pretty ace at Thief River Falls pow-wow! Can't wait 4 the next CD! HOKA! -A fan from day 1
criticism is good. sure they sound lively, energetic but is it exceptional? ask yourself that and you know they could sound ten times better than that without the screaming around. would they still be able to scream around if their drum was pitched? they have to pull at their throats to start with so i'd have to say no, they'd burn out then in that instance. all those drums sound like their using cardboard boxes because it's easier. ya'd think they'd sound better however.
No it is not a fad, and Yes actually they're quite exceptional. If you have ever went to pow wows (which you probably haven't based on what your saying). They are a well known and respected drum group.
lol. i've been to pow wows, ten to fifteen a year for the past twenty years but clearly, that doesn't mean anything since you guys are experts on all kinds of pow wow singing. i'm sorry i said anything aight. you can believe what you want about drums, my opinion is it can sound more rock and roll than that it does nowadays, okay? peace.
rOCK-N-ROLL...I know what ur trying to say...man this is rock-n-roll for pow-wow go'ers in indian country...make em dance hard boys...hiykka hiykka hiykka...hoka ha...
they sound like they are trying to sing high, they pitch, but only slightly, this is supposed to be the premiere drum huh? more work is needed. and what is that they are beating on a cardboard box? sounds like it.
It takes a lot to sing like that and its called talent. You should try learning about a culture before criticizing it. No , its not a cardboard box, its an actual drum made from hide.
foooseball you have the tongue of the whiteman. Where are your positive feelings towards these brothers who bring good feelings and share that spirit of the drum. A sad and angry man is a lonely man. I will pray for you my brother. Aho.
each drum has its own sound. humidity or lack thereof modify the tone of the drum. you cannot get one hundred consistent sound all over the continent like bear creek's drum travels. You cant and dont tone drums like white people do. You obvisouly have no clue what your talkign about.
geez, ya guys are always standing up for bearcreek. maybe it's bearcreek that's doing all the back and forth here. if i was in this position i wouldn't even give voice to it as it's neither here nor there, who really gives a rat's ass how it's suppose to sound, now really? they can't really do it unless there's a hundred of them for starters. ha ha ha.
your the one that brought up bearcreeks and others mistakes. you also tried to say that their drums sounds like cardboard to what? compensate for their singing? Bear Creek, Midnite Express, The Boyz, all champion groups are judged by their peers so all the "Pro" groups must be doing something right. Listen and learn bud.
if you really think about this----but i'm sure you'll find this irrelevant just the same----even the drum's beat should hav a tune, do you understand? those drums you mentioned? the fact that they get an honorarium hardly makes them professional neither are they expert. wake up, bud. when the cutters jump in their beat either speeds or slows all at differing rates, hardly the measure of drumming experts or "professionals" don't you think? i didn't think so.
well its not that i dont understand what your saying, I do, and at this point its redundant. What you percieve to be skilled or talented drumming and singing differs from every singer and dancer out there. Honorariums are a courtesy. How much do you think it would cost to send up to fifteen guys literally across teh continent to sing for three or four days? At any rate, you see or hear one thing and I and 99% of powwow'ers hear and see soemthing else.
good lead there mike Thumbs up
