@Compadect123 All muay thai uses 8 limbs. in fact, that is the definition of muay thai, the 8 limbed fighting art. but chaiya is definitely brilliant. that's why i study it.
@indigo2012v2 Yes, muay Chaiya was one of the regional styles of muay boran. there used to be very distinct styles in different parts of the country, muay korat, muay chiang mai...but since 1920s when the rules of modern muay thai were codefide. it is difficult to look dramatically different than your opponent, if you both fight following the same rules.
gday mate, i spose they could be called katas, the exercises that you said went for about 30 minutes practicisng techiques?, was just wondering if you had a demonstration video of all the exercises seeing as iv just started MT but it would be good to have to do to practice when i cant get down to the gym, with how many sets/reps etc would be greatly appreciated
Why were you using such soft uncoordinated shots when demonstrating Muay Chaiya's "awesome defense"? It really looked like anyone with a decent jab or hook could penetrate someone swinging their arms to defend themselves.
@2ossy so do i, but its still not a massively popular strike the world over is it? You more often see the front kick or the rear leg roundhouse than the lead leg roundhouse.
The elbow block with the elbow strike to the head looks like the same technique I saw in muy boran and muay thai. More in Muy boran though. Since this is thailand I am sure this is a blend of it all. As far as the that kick goes it does look like it would hurt but Im sure there is a counter for the kick and I am sure you could go to the body with a hook punch when they duck out of the way.
The double elbow is a look mai move called "ben soo men" and yes, it appears in most of the styles of muay thai in one form or the other. There are lots of details in this move alone, which aren't apparent in the video...
elbows countering elbows are a higher part of the chaiya learning... as they're pretty hard to practice properly! but of the 3 'bit' elbows (thadmalaa, joop sawg, and wiang sawg) all three can be used to counter each other... it 'just' requires precision timing.
re:kick... well, there's a counter to ever attack, but i'm curious that you'd be willing to take one of these kicks for the chance to give a hook to the body...
@RDraGon2179 Muay Boran isnt a style or system...LOL....its a catch term for all the ancient Muay thai systems in thailand. Muay Chaiya is an actual name of a system....
How would you compare the syllabus to Kru Pedro's stand up? I Know he was a student of Kru Lek but was wondering if he's changed it much. Keen to get over to see Pedro.
Sir Antonio ,
My teacher says Chaiya was the most dangerous art of all Muay Thai. It uses 8 limbs

@RDraGon2179 Muay Boran merely means 'ancient muay', Muay Chaiya is one for the four major regional styles of ancient muay.
