Everyone says Rorschach stole every scene he was in, but when he and the Comedian are on screen together, it's Blake's scene. That's why the Comedian has the best performance: ALL of the scenes he's in are his.
@TheLastRainShadow not really since in the graphic novel Rorschach seems to admire the Comedian due to his service in the U.S and how he never let anybody retire him. Also in this scene in the graphic novel Rorschach didnt argue with the Comedian at all.
The Comedian would be badass if he wasn't a rapist. Great scene. They could have cut it down to make it fit. It gives insight to his and Ozzy's thoughts.
Ironic, the Cold War is over and we may still end up being piles of the ashes on the cinder anyway-it will only take one crazy w/ a nuke, dirty or pure, to set the fireworks off. The original comic was fitting in its time and its still relevant now.
Ozy is the B.C. warrior; fueled by the "what's good for the goose is good for the gander" philosophy. The ends justify the means, and there is only superficial complexity on top of it.
The Comedian is the nihilist; Humanity is a cruel consequence that has led to nothing but omniscient angst. Our pursuit of happiness is futile and delirious to him.
Rorschach is The Punisher. In pain, he has learned that the only response is more pain. There is no complexity. Only an eye for an eye.
And then there's Dr. Manhattan. He is like a real-world Spock. "Born" of human accomplishment (if you want to call it that), he has abandoned all that is human. A true, natural paradox.
Logic and unemotional indifference are his defining characteristics. Each day, he slips deeper into the blank peril. Laurie, and to a lesser extent, Janie bring out his remaining humanity. But after Veidt's reveal, he abandons all ties and becomes his most neutral, Godly form yet. Little remains.
@donnie86dc to be quite honest, there's nothing much thats astonishing in the directors cut, unless you'd love to see it (coming from the guy who has all the versions of blade runner!)
@donnie86dc hmm wouldn't blame you for loving this movie(and the comic...of course) then my friend, i'd recommend the directors cut! p.s. i'd also recommend getting the digital copy one with the special features, i never did and i hate myself for it!
Now that I've seen the movie AND read the comic, I can honestly say I like how they did it in the movie better. The scene from the comic was kind of pointless, the one from the movie tells you a lot about the characters and stakes.
@MrThenextthing Probably the Comedian in a straight up fight tbqh even though Rorschach's my, in his prime the Comedian kicked the crap out of Ozymandias once. Though good luck to the Comedian putting Rorschach into a situation where he wouldn't be able to win though :L
well, i guess if he shows a young superman rage and the like against evil would be pretty logic since this movie should be his batman begins, superman for the frist time really dealing with what criminals and the like are capable of, and i hope they give him enough power, not direct reboot byrne style, not enough to be super.
yeah, superman should have to own his reputation in the movies, i mean you can't make him the head of the JLA for nothing (if that movie ever comes out).
i know, that's why superman is my favorite superhero, he is one of the most powerfull beings in the universe but actually doesn't even want all this, perfect vid for this, since Moore showed us in Whatever happened to the man of Tomorrow that Superman didn't do all those heroic deeds for himself, but for us, he never wanted more than a normal life, but having his moral standards brought to him the kents he simply was unable to NOT use the power he has for the good of mankind.
I know what you mean, but you know, Superman is for me the most ''human'' Superhero, especially silver age, beingt the most powerfull man, having unlimited power at your hand, and because of his upbringing he inherits the moral standards everybody should have, see red son or the nail to what could also happen when he would have landed in the wrong part of earth.
That's why Frank Miller can't write Superman, Superman simply is what we all should try to be like.

@Emrod82 What makes you think he's not lawful good instead? Peace above everything and he even made himself suffer because of his complete mental control.
@noirkitten even if he may be the greatest sinner of them all. She doesn't tolerate his sins, she just doesn't want to send him to hell. She didn't give up on Judas Iscariot even when he not only betrayed Christ but so shamelessly betrayed Him with a kiss. She still prayed for Judas and it was he who resisted Her help.
So you ge opinion. I think humanity is flawed but with help of the Blessed Virgin Mary we can do anything. You give me hope that even non religious people will understand us:-)
@noirkitten that God wants to send them to hell and indeed we beleive that He gives tham the chance to repent by giving them smaller graces but He doesn't will to make them saints. This is where Mary comes in, in that those whom God reprobated, instead of sharing in His lack of love for them She goes, makes them Saints and makes God Himself love them. Christ won us all grace, Mary distributes it and thats why I love Her and She is my hero. She's the Mother of Mercy and will never abandon anyone
@noirkitten Speaking about Mary, we believe in Her alot, more than you would think. I honestly wasn't always a hardcore catholic (this isn't saying that I'm a saint of course) and without Her I would never have risen from my sins and will to do actual good, instead of furthering my carrer and simply LOOKING good. God is all goodness yes, but that doesn't mean that He is all nice and in fact, the CC says that He even loves some souls more than others. Jacob I loved, Esau I hated. It doesn't mean
@noirkitten Glad your not the kind of you tuber who is arrogant :-). In fact, we can do no good without the help of God and Mary (I'll explain this as I really love the subject of Mary) but you must understand that when we say that without God we are nothing, He doesn't 'force' us to do good as if we were string puppets. Grace makes us will to do good and to be attracted towards good. In fact, Moloch in nthe comic is Catholic because he even has a statue of Mary ;who else has a statue like that?
@noirkitten Batman is not good? Honestly man, your missing the point of Batman. He became Batman not because of revenge but to protect people form suffering the way he suffered. He's a vigilante but he's not a terrorist. Batman didn't inspire villains, in fact alot of them had tragic pasts who became villains not becuase they hate Batman but for their own gain. Two-face-insane.Joker-complete monster.Mr. Freeze-his wife. Nolans films in fact glorify Batman and his struggles agaisnt evil. really..
@noirkitten everyone else. Comic book morality is not impossible and if you forgot, Rorschach's arguments actually made Doc. Malcolm (the psychologist who treat Rors. in prison) a better person; when he saw a woman being mugged whilst talking to his wife, he tried to help her but his wife told him that she'll leave him again if he goes into other people's affairs? What does he do?He tries making a diffirence in this crapsack world and goes helping them.We can make a diffirence despite the others
@noirkitten No human (except Christ and Mary) is absolutely perfect but they can be good. Evil isn't a trait of humans, only we just let it creep in. If we fight it, we can become heroes. Look at the thousands of Saints who saved not only their souls: the Jesuits who raised Mexicans to the level of human beings, Euphrasia Pelletier who saved child prostitutes, Bish. Neumann who found schools in his place, Madre Teresa (do I have to explain anything?). They were flawed, jsut much less flawed than
@noirkitten I disagree. He's not the most human superhero of them all, he's the most inhuman because he did not try to better himself, he just let the world go and suffer. Even he knew how much rubbish his pilosophy was when he found out about Veidt's plan and broke down. He wanted to sav ethe world but he was to hopeless to do anything. Humans are neither good or evil WHEN THEY ARE BORN, its what we do that defines us. Batman is good and if he existed the world'd be a better place.
Don't get me wrong, staying true to aloof ideals is stupid crazy hard, and all but impossible for most people. Those that can stick to it are super heroes, those that do their best to stick to it are heroes, those that don't care are eh, those that slip below that become Rorschach feed
Well see once they start doing that, they're no longer superheroes. It's debatable as to whether they're heroes or even just good people. Amoral stays amoral becomes immoral is the usual way of things. It never becomes good. For sure, they might do something good, but in your instance, once police start abusing their power as a way of not getting caught or to mess with someone, they're no longer good cops. They're either just plain cops or pigs, probably depends on their mood.
Not really.. He's just jaded. He saved some lives and killed some people, then took his violence outside that and became just another jerk.
Don't get me wrong, I love his character. He has the same sense of humor I do, though that doesn't mean it's funny. If you do terrible things because you can, you're not a hero. Just another fk who needs to be put down. Hence why I like Rorshach. Actually I like all of them.. But they're not heroes. Only one who may qualify is Rorshach.
@noirkitten Couldn't agree with you more. Also, he stands for what the superheroes of Watchmen were all about. Not perfect people, but actually hurt people with many flaws that they struggle with.
@miklitov23 That's the thing. Ozymandias may be the smartest man on Earth but he is diluted by his ideals, and lacks the simple ability to see things for what they are. The Comedian, in the end, turned out to be the most wise of them all. Hell, he even brought down Dr. Manhattan during the Vietnam bar scene.
I like how Dr. Manhat. is smiling. He is like, "Bitch, I can do you a billion times before you can finish saying "fuck me" and yet you think you are worthy of my company? WRONG"
He was just being an animal like humans truly are. We are all animals and we still act as one no matter how hard we try to be civilised in this world.
@superhamzah85 A crime always has personal intentions, so in a way even the slightest crime makes you a criminal. Even though you may put those aside there are far more murderers than only 70 Million... not every murderer is a psychopath though.
The Comedian, Ozymandias and Rorshach are the characters with the most understanding of the world, in that order. The Comedian saw their actions as "Costumed-Heroes" pointless because his most "heroic" act was slaughtering people in Vietnam, to subdue the Soviet war machine for a futile moment in time. Ozymandias eventually saw their actions as pointless by studying history and human nature, motivated by the Comedian. Rorshach came to the conclusion by seeing society's ever lasting dark side.
@MuonRay I wouldn't even be willing to order them in terms of how well they understood the world. I think they all had fundamentally different outlooks, each of which being a different slice of the pie--even if their goals were the same, at first.
@anvilheaded I personally would, in the case of the Comedian anyway. he simply knew from the start that for them to keep playing dress-up to intimidate criminals and stop crime was futile as the world was at the brink of destruction, where an innocent person was just as intimidated as a murderer. also, whole countries were committing crime, holding their citizens hostage in the embrace of the cold war in a delicate balance of observing and engaging in precise warfare.
@msinvincible2000 That's what I mean. The world is cruel and, for the most part, lacking in principles (especially in the world of the watchmen). The comedian is the only one who seems to get that. I'm not saying I agree with his actions but I think he is the only one who seems to understand and admit that the world can be a very terrible place. He doesn't sugar coat it.
@msinvincible2000 Wise would be accurate to describe the Comedian. He basically meant that it would be foolish for them to waste their time, resources and influence on something as trivial as capturing a so-called "supervillian" when there are bigger things hapening in the world: 2 Global Superpowers threatening the destruction of civilization itself. Ozymandias soon realised this too. Rorshach eventually understood what the Comedian meant, but only after he was the only costumed vigilante left.
@Nerefurian Exactly, The Comedian says clearly, "fools think problems are small enough for them to solve". Then Ozymandias goes and tries to make a destructive master plan to solve all the world's problems.
& thus eddie blake doomed new york, great job here man you outdid yourself with this final gag by influencing adrian ,unwittingly yes, but you still fucked up
I'm getting a bit tired of people saying things like "how the world works", 'cause the matter of fact is that absolutely nothing in this world is completely certain! Spare me of your absolutes, will ya!
PS: I know what I just wrote is an absolute, but you get my point.
If there was true justice, Jeffery Dean Morgan would have been nominated for his role as the Comedian. Ridiculously underrated performance just because it was in a "comic-book movie."
the comedian is the best character in this whole movie. He understood the world, the society and the human nature and he decided to live like Rohrschach said at his grave.. All things that are done in this movie are based on the things he does to all characters in past.. Just imagine the comedian wouldnt be part of the movie.. nothing would happen
@BrainquicheInc DAmn, 1) stop referring to Watch Men as a "Movie" (the movie sucked) 2) The novel actually explains Comedian better 3) OK actually comedian was One of (if not the Most) important characters in the whole NOVEL! yes, but no Rorschach was way better at least in my opinion,
@tj11112222 Hello!! he did it ¬¬! he brought peace, and actually in the session (Read the novel its better) Capitan Metropolis and Comedian opened Ozzys eyes, thats what motivated him to make a plan to save the world!
@maxmillon The world is only a mess becuse men like The Comedian let it be. If everyone worked to make a difference, then we can make the world a better place. After all, apathy is death. We can't just give in and accept that the world is the way it is.
@xtatictimes4ever 1) there will always be problems deal with it 2) So the problems will never end, so the best thing you can do is to be like Rorschach and not compromise 3)I dont know If I got ya, but The comedian was like you me and all scum in the world, he lived and mixed in a shitty world, pretending nothing was wrong, even when he saw the falls on society, he was like "look at me I'm killing people, but no one will stop me cus world is shit!" but deep inside he cared!
The biggest joke is that the comedian indeed killed himself. Adrian became the joker because he saw the cruelty of Comedian's life and his intention to face Blake's words forced him to help the situation by doing something even more cruel than any of the thing that the comedian did. So the Capitalist (Veidt) kills the Fascist (Blake) to bring peace in the world through the utopia of their senses. But it's about the truth, the only moral. Rorsach dies but not the truth.
@Aped991 WTF?! He fucking brought peace! Comedian was a good guy he saw the true face of the society, he was only a parody of it! acted like he didn't cared, but inside he did! Comedian Opens Ozzy's eyes, and that motivated Ozzy to make a plan to save the world, but Blake wouldst let him, and COME ON, grow up theres always times in which sacrifice is needed in order that more people will survive and live in peace (take Jesus for example, or when prisoners are killed to get streets safer.
@SakkaraStudios101 I agree somewhat, but they would have to take the time to introduce that character. Plus, I think they wanted to develop Ozymandias a bit more.
@SakkaraStudios101 YEAH! your on my team, and it was meant to be that way because remember, when they were all going out of the room CM shouted "Wait dont you all leave, dont you see? someone has to do it, someone has to save the world!" and THAT'S what motivated Ozzy to make a plan to save the world! CM and Comedian opened his eyes
than the end is near.......but the funny thing is.......we do not care about that"
we can do something,we can stop this thing right here, right now.....but what we are doing to stop it ? NOTHING! since the end of WW2 the humans now can destroy the world just by just by pressing a button!

Nolans films in fact glorify Batman and his struggles agaisnt evil. really..
philipmarie1854 6 months ago
@noirkitten everyone else. Comic book morality is not impossible and if you forgot, Rorschach's arguments actually made Doc. Malcolm (the psychologist who treat Rors. in prison) a better person; when he saw a woman being mugged whilst talking to his wife, he tried to help her but his wife told him that she'll leave him again if he goes into other people's affairs? What does he do?He tries making a diffirence in this crapsack world and goes helping them.We can make a diffirence despite the others
philipmarie1854 6 months ago
@noirkitten No human (except Christ and Mary) is absolutely perfect but they can be good. Evil isn't a trait of humans, only we just let it creep in. If we fight it, we can become heroes. Look at the thousands of Saints who saved not only their souls: the Jesuits who raised Mexicans to the level of human beings, Euphrasia Pelletier who saved child prostitutes, Bish. Neumann who found schools in his place, Madre Teresa (do I have to explain anything?). They were flawed, jsut much less flawed than
philipmarie1854 6 months ago

FraggingBard 6 months ago
@noirkitten
FraggingBard 6 months ago
I had a meeting just like this in a tree house in the 4th grade. Almost exactly the same.
HotBroodish 6 months ago 3
@noirkitten
Only one who may qualify is Rorshach.

miklitov23 7 months ago
@miklitov23 That's the thing. Ozymandias may be the smartest man on Earth but he is diluted by his ideals, and lacks the simple ability to see things for what they are. The Comedian, in the end, turned out to be the most wise of them all. Hell, he even brought down Dr. Manhattan during the Vietnam bar scene.

@noirkitten Well, the whole point of Watchmen is that each of them represents some par of human nature.

Comedian was the realest humanbeing.
He was just being an animal like humans truly are. We are all animals and we still act as one no matter how hard we try to be civilised in this world.
frustratedgamerguy 9 months ago 2
No, he's a cynic.
If humankind wanted to kill each other, we wouldn't have gone from 1 billion to 7 billion in 100 years. We wouldn't have universal human rights.
We are social creatures, and are hardwired to bond, not to fight, except against PERCEIVED threats.
It's the 1% of us, who suffer from psychopathy, which is still 70 million people, that ruin it for the rest of us.

superhamzah85 6 months ago
@superhamzah85 A crime always has personal intentions, so in a way even the slightest crime makes you a criminal. Even though you may put those aside there are far more murderers than only 70 Million... not every murderer is a psychopath though.
peoplespest154 6 months ago
The Comedian, Ozymandias and Rorshach are the characters with the most understanding of the world, in that order. The Comedian saw their actions as "Costumed-Heroes" pointless because his most "heroic" act was slaughtering people in Vietnam, to subdue the Soviet war machine for a futile moment in time. Ozymandias eventually saw their actions as pointless by studying history and human nature, motivated by the Comedian. Rorshach came to the conclusion by seeing society's ever lasting dark side.
MuonRay 9 months ago 30
@MuonRay I wouldn't even be willing to order them in terms of how well they understood the world. I think they all had fundamentally different outlooks, each of which being a different slice of the pie--even if their goals were the same, at first.
anvilheaded 5 months ago
@anvilheaded I personally would, in the case of the Comedian anyway. he simply knew from the start that for them to keep playing dress-up to intimidate criminals and stop crime was futile as the world was at the brink of destruction, where an innocent person was just as intimidated as a murderer. also, whole countries were committing crime, holding their citizens hostage in the embrace of the cold war in a delicate balance of observing and engaging in precise warfare.

Nerefurian 9 months ago
@Nerefurian the wisest? I would say the most cruel and the one without principles
msinvincible2000 9 months ago
@msinvincible2000 That's what I mean. The world is cruel and, for the most part, lacking in principles (especially in the world of the watchmen). The comedian is the only one who seems to get that. I'm not saying I agree with his actions but I think he is the only one who seems to understand and admit that the world can be a very terrible place. He doesn't sugar coat it.
Nerefurian 9 months ago
@msinvincible2000 Wise would be accurate to describe the Comedian. He basically meant that it would be foolish for them to waste their time, resources and influence on something as trivial as capturing a so-called "supervillian" when there are bigger things hapening in the world: 2 Global Superpowers threatening the destruction of civilization itself. Ozymandias soon realised this too. Rorshach eventually understood what the Comedian meant, but only after he was the only costumed vigilante left.
MuonRay 9 months ago
@Nerefurian Exactly, The Comedian says clearly, "fools think problems are small enough for them to solve". Then Ozymandias goes and tries to make a destructive master plan to solve all the world's problems.

xtatictimes4ever 1 year ago
@xtatictimes4ever 1) there will always be problems deal with it 2) So the problems will never end, so the best thing you can do is to be like Rorschach and not compromise 3)I dont know If I got ya, but The comedian was like you me and all scum in the world, he lived and mixed in a shitty world, pretending nothing was wrong, even when he saw the falls on society, he was like "look at me I'm killing people, but no one will stop me cus world is shit!" but deep inside he cared!
fsfsfsfsfsfsg 1 year ago
The biggest joke is that the comedian indeed killed himself. Adrian became the joker because he saw the cruelty of Comedian's life and his intention to face Blake's words forced him to help the situation by doing something even more cruel than any of the thing that the comedian did. So the Capitalist (Veidt) kills the Fascist (Blake) to bring peace in the world through the utopia of their senses. But it's about the truth, the only moral. Rorsach dies but not the truth.
Aped991 1 year ago
@Aped991 WTF?! He fucking brought peace! Comedian was a good guy he saw the true face of the society, he was only a parody of it! acted like he didn't cared, but inside he did! Comedian Opens Ozzy's eyes, and that motivated Ozzy to make a plan to save the world, but Blake wouldst let him, and COME ON, grow up theres always times in which sacrifice is needed in order that more people will survive and live in peace (take Jesus for example, or when prisoners are killed to get streets safer.
