  • If it "feeds almost exclusively on fruit", why is it considered a carnivore?

  • @rabbit605

Yes carnivore does mean meat-eater, but it is a carnivore by classification.i.e. how it is related to other mammals. You hear the narrator say it is a member of the "Carnivore order" . An order is a stage of classification. Being in the carnivore order means it is related to raccoons, bears, dogs, cats, mongooses etc. Basically it is a carnivore in the same way that a monkey is a primate.

Look up "five stage classification" if you want more information on this.

  • A Kinkajou, what's is that? I thought it was Civet at first but then we have what we have, a Kinkajou. who names and classifies these creatures, lol!

  • "Promoting the well-being of its ecosystem through its own gluttony." Humanity, take note...

  • I played with a baby one of these and it almost gnawed my hand off! All I can say is, it's adorable as a baby and it has a huge tongue!

  • Awwww!

  • Robotpanda77@ What do you mean? Here's some info about their name:

    - It is spelled Kinkajou, not Kinkajew.

    - They are in the family Procyonida

    - Their scientific name is Potos flavus

    - They are also called 'Nightwalkers' and 'Honey Bears'.

  • - Yes, we all do understand they look like a monkey or a ferret. But they aren't.

    - Despite being carnivores, Kinkajous' main diet is fruit.

    - They eat frogs, insects, & fruit.

    - They are also called 'Nightwalkers', because they are nocturnal.

    - They have another nick-name, 'Honey Bears', shared with the Sun Bear.

    - It is Kinkajou, not Kinkajew

    - They can live up to 40 years, but the average is 25.

    - Humans are hunting them for their fur to make horse saddles & wallets.

    - They are arboreal.

  • The only reason why I searched this video is because it's my gamertag and I didn't know what the hell a kinkajou was lol.

  • omg! I was like whoa when i saw it.....it looks a like a lemur mixed with a monkey, dog, cat, sugar glider and possum!! thumbs up if you agree with me

  • silly carnivore eating fruit (=

  • To those who are interested in getting one as a pet, I strongly recommend a USDA licensed breeder. I have videos of my little girl on my page. And yes they can get aggressive with age if they are not fixed and handled often. If you get a good breeder they will give you all the pros and cons of owning one. They are curious and it is a lot like having a constant 2 year old for the 20+ years that they live.

  • yes they are available as pets but they shit everywhere and get aggresive with age

  • Come on, what is it really called?

  • perhaps Kinkajou can evolve in a similar way with Primate?

perhaps into another sentient species? (convergent evolution)

  • i need to learn this for school and this helped alot

  • i tot it was bearcat o.O

  • Please, never buy a kinka :(. I know theyre cute but think twice ;).They need their natural, complicated habitat as it's d environment in d jungle. If U find 1, d most likely's injured, ill... Dont pet it :(. Just look 4 an appropiated rescue center that've big clean enclosures, expert vets & rehabilitate their wild animals 2 release'em 2 d wild again ;). 1 example's d costa rican Kids Saving the Rainforest's wildlife rescue & rehabilitation center in San Antonio ;).

    Thank U & b blessed ;).

  • I was watching one of these wild on our land (in Costa Rica) last night. :-) first time I had seen one that well! It was afraid of the lights I think, (who wouldn't be in the night if you suddenly get a pair of H7 LED Lensers shone in your face. :-)

  • cat mixed with monkey

  • a "Kinkajou".:)

  • a kinkyjew?

  • @metalmilitiaman8 - this ugly creature should be exterminated because it's name is offensive to Jews.

  • @madrazel Think about what squirrels and birds want to do to us! We tear down their freaking trees to make a freaking shopping mall. Your comment has to be one of the most ignorant. They were here millions of years before us and deserve equal of more respect. So. shut the hell up

  • @metalmilitiaman8 No, that's me...

  • Pikachu!!!

  • @getmyhappy lol some one named their kinkajou pikachu.

  • @darkcaster09 pikachu is a mouse pokemon not a kinkajou.

  • @getmyhappy pikachu is a rat/mouse

  • i got to play with one of these the other day! but since they're nocturnal, she was pretty sleepy

  • YODA :O

  • interesting animal, but whats with that disco-bar-lounge-music in the background? I'd rather put some drums and flutes there...

  • More like Jazz-bar-lounge-music

  • More like porno-music.

  • I was going to comment that it sounded like music from a 1970's porn movie!

  • this video is wrong you see that the kinkajou is eating fruits AND insects therefore its an omnivore

  • He didn't say it was an herbivore. He said it mostly feeds on fruits and stuff.

  • 0:26 he says its part of the carnivore order....

  • That doesn't mean it's a carnivore though. Just a classification of the species. I dunno who came up with that crap but that's how they classify animals, lol. Don't make no darn sense.

  • Stupid banners and stupid commercials.

  • The demand for exotic pets just removes them from wild populations and wild behaviours (even if they are "bred in captivity" - where do you think they originally came from?) I think keepers of exotic and non domestic animals as pets are deluded - calling themselves animal lovers. Animal welfare does not equate animal "keeping" (you may love them - but is that one of their NEEDS?)

  • k than why do we have any pets at all?

cus......... technically speaching werent all pets wild at one point?

idk i dont have a problem with this at all and as long as they arent taking all of them from the wild, y should this matter.

  • Good point - but you're a few millenia too late. Cats have been domesticated about 8000 and dogs about 15000 years. They are removed from their ecological niche. "Exotic pets" ARE being removed from wild populations - what's more they are mostly smuggled in inhumane ways. I rest my case.

Bottom line is we DON'T really need pets but they can both enrich our lives OR be a liability - humans have to acknowledge responsibility for them and see the implications of that all too easily.

  • I love Kinkajous, they really do make great pets.

I have two pet monkeys...Cotton Top Tamarins actually.

You should check out some of there videos on my page.

    Thanks

    =D

  • tree huggers, i could be a millionare if it wasnt for you fags.

  • Your misery makes me happy. :)

  • my dad almost had a job in cali in a huge mine with a crapload of expensive minerals but you fags had to shut it down. you wont let us take out the dead plants in cali so the wildfire stops either. you guys just get up there and complain and its getting old.

  • Your dad's job isn't worth changing a habitat to the point that it won't re-establish for decades. It's called SCIENCE, retard. Go bawl like a spoiled baby to your conservative heroes, or something.

  • canopy in tamil means 'stupid poo'

  • it dose that's disgusting where are you from iv never heard of the language Tamil before

  • it was just a random comment. I didnt even watch the video fully. Tamil is a language spoken predominantly in a state called 'Tamil Nadu' in the country India which is a south Asian country.

  • Tamil: n.

    1. a member of a people inhabiting parts of southern india.

    2. the Dravidian language of the Tamils.

  • I always said the word Kinkajou but I never knew what it was and now I know!!!! :-D

  • fossa haev a perhensile tail too and are also predator.

  • It said unlike its carnivorous cousins.

  • I AGREE MIDKNIGHTWORLD....

  • I see a few comment on this video saying things like "I Want One" It's people like you that are putting animals in danger of extinction. Really what makes you think that cause they are animals you can just have them as pets and snatch them from the wild? You should be ashamed of yourselfs. You would be angry if some animal can and took your baby as a pet won't you? Well it's the same thing. Sorry just had to say this as this type of thing makes me very angry.

  • hahaha... you're mad! It's a little naive of you to believe that animals are being put in danger of extinction because people keep taking them home... when was the last time you saw a Kinkajou at a friend's house? ... Try lobbying against deforestation and leave people's trivial comments alone... nutter! lol

  • Your the nutter! I was useing this as a platform (exsample) for all other animals. And also why can't you just simply come on here and leave your comment without putting people down like saying nutter or i'm mad. If you would have just put your comment without all that i would have welcomed it.

  • I Want two!

  • Ask Paris Hilton to help you out with that, lol.

  • i did a report on these once, i want one

    ╚═╩═╩═╝

  • The music in this video should make Nantional Geographic ashamed of themselves. It ruins the integrity of the shoot. If you have to go commercial, at least use something tasteful, something that doesn't make a mockery of nature.

  • Did anyone happen to see the latest episode of the show Psych? Cause this is kinda a coincidence. He kept saying Kinkajou. It was funny and now i know what it is...

  • it didnt say anything about what MEAT it actually eats... how can it be a carnivore if it only eats fruit?

  • It is in the order carnivore but it technically isn't a carnivore(it doesn't eat meat). It all goes back to all the animals in that order being related to a common ancestor.
