  • I love my spastic Anthony (:

  • shivers down my spine! i love it!

  • I don't own emotion, I rent! - best line ever!

  • this is so freakishly amazing :) im like crying as im watching

  • Now THIS is the only stage performance of Rent I'm willing to see. There's an O-Br revival going on, but I heard it's really bad. The actors don't have a grasp on the characters at all.

  • amazing! i love it <3

  • I effing love Anthony Rapp's voice. It's stunning.

  • When I turned six I was exposed to this musical, didn't pay too much attention until I was eleven. The motion picture came out 2005 I was 14 at the time, I bought the soundtrack.

  • The line that's usually "Angel, I hear you....," he doesn't say "Angel." Instead, he says some other name. Who is that?

  • @senrivlin I think he says "Jono" as in Jonathan Larson.

  • I hate when people say that there are better Marks and Rogers than Adam and Anthony, Anthony IS Mark and Adam IS Roger. I feel like they are the only people that can actually grasp every concept and confliction of Mark and Roger. They just ARE them.

  • Gosh, I am SO in love with Rent. Everything Larson was able to fit in those few hours... It breaks my heart that he didn't live to see everything his work meant to so many people. Anthony Rapp is a phenomenal performer, and it's amazing to see how much of himself he put into this music... I still am just blown away at the power of words and music, and I believe Larson and the cast used them to their fullest extent. By far my favorite musical out there.

  • Isn't the singer the same guy in the movie

  • @ThatConoGirl both, both are in the movie. in fact, the entire Original Broadway Cast was in the movie, with the exceptions of Joanne and Mimi.

  • @ThatConoGirl Yes. They brought back Anthony Rapp along with many of the original cast members to film the movie.

  • @ThatConoGirl Both of them. It's, I believe, Anthony Rapp and Adam Pascal.

  • Anthony Rapp <3 I swear I just watched the 2005 film and the only difference in the way he looks is his very, very blond hair in the film.

He's the Mark I've always preferred though.. because he IS Mark Cohen.

  • Oh my god, Anthony Rapp looks about 12... and the funny thing is, he really hasn't aged. Thanks so much for this!

  • This is my favoorriittee song from the show! Anthony and Adam sounds awesome together!

  • i saw them in 09 when they did the broadway tour and i met anthony omg he is so sweet and very handsome as is adam i didnt meet him but i also met the AMAZING gwen stewart made my decade i was in tears when they sang this song i couldnt believe i was seeing them my mom was in tears too i love this song today 4 u and this song are my fav rent songs

  • While watching the movie version of this, it always irked my nerves, that Roger got back to New York from Santa Fe, in like enough time for him and Mark to be singing the same song. Lmao. Don't ask why, it just always got me irked a little. Still to this day, I say something when it comes time for that part. xD

  • @raybabiieex3 Actually, the original song is 8 weeks long, they just cut it down to about 4 minutes for the sake of time. That's how they could be singing the same song as Roger drove to Santa Fe, lived there for about a month, and then came back. Pretty neat, huh!

  • could you imagine sitting there, watching the opening night performance, and just thinking "...this is going to big". SO FILLED WITH ENVY!!!!!

  • ANTHONY RAPP IS SOOOOO ADORABLE

  • The Original cast is soo amazing. and I have read Anthony Rapp's autobiography. One of my favorite books. =)

  • Adam Pascal... *sigh, faint* <3

  • What is this? No man hug?!?!?! Blasphemy I say!

  • Was that Adam Pascal? I was 6 when this came out, they look so young!! <3

  • i love Adams weird voice!!!

  • What was the actual date of the opening night? Of this show (broadway)?

  • anthony and rent changed my life =) <3

  • thanks for putting these up, this is super awesome!!!!!

  • Reading his memoir right now, "Without You," it's fantastic. RENTHEADS! Rent changed my life.

  • I cried my eyes out when I saw them 2 years ago during their tour when the sang this, this song is unbelievable hearing it live

  • You're welcome.

  • @AMDmonster9390

What do you expect? The premiere was in '96. We didn't have awesome cameras back then.

  • @AMDmonster9390, well, I'm guessing the person recording this used a camcorder? Although, that would be a little difficult. Idk, I was only 3 in '96.

  • Geez. This is really slow! You can tell at the end that they want it to go faster. :) They try speeding it up.

  • this roger seems too much like an opera singer, not a rocker

  • @ccubsfan94 This is Adam Pascal....

  • @jaygaarder i know but in this song he seems more of opera. i know he can do the rock sound. it just doesn't seem he had it in this performance

  • @ccubsfan94 Yeah, his voice has changed a lot since 1996.

  • @ccubsfan94 What do you mean, "rhis" roger. This is THE roger. all others are just copies of the original (albeit good ones)

  • @Tippercanoe like i said above. i know he is the original. in this performance he just doesn't seem to have that rock tone in his voice he has now

  • haha you can tell they're havin a little trouble with that low riff in "millenium"...it's funny, that note never occurred to me as being all that low...it's just kinda tough if you don't get a good breath in after the first line of the chorus...

  • Absolute amazingness. No one can sing this song better than Anthony and Adam. It was literally made for their voices.

  • wow...they look SO young in this!

  • I love Anthony and Adam :)

  • it's amazing but i think that both their voices improved alot between then and the movie especially Adam's

  • Anthony Rapp <3 i met him last october...best day of my life :]

  • I saw one of Adam's and Anthony's final performances of RENT last month. I didn't realize when I saw it, it would have been on Jonathan Larson's birthday. It was a fitting day.

  • @kewlkat8208 Wow. That's really neat. I saw it last year with Adam and Anthony on April 26th. Another very important day.

  • Wasn't Jonathan Larson's death the day before opening night??

  • It was before the Off-Broadway production's opening night. This is on Broadway.

  • @idinasfavefanzel Oh ok, thank you so much :)

  • @idinasfavefanzel it was the night of the broadway opening watch the rent featurette from the 2008 tonys............actually if this was opening night he died the morning before this performance

  • @emysue1992 He died before the Off-Broadway. This is the Broadway....

  • @RanmaChan93 yeah he died the night before :( RIP JONATHAN i love this show

  • This is the best. is this really opening night?

  • Yes.

  • Love seeing the older performances of these two... so much raw passion

  • thanks you SO much for uploading all of these! this is my favorite musical ever. i saw anthony rapp and adam pascal perform together in a special weekend performance last year and theyre still just as amazing!

  • Anthony Rapp! <3 Most amazing person ever, singing an amazing song written by another amazing person just for Anthony's voice! :]

  • BEST FILMED VIDEO OUT OF ALL OF THEM <3 MY FAVORITE SONG TOO! omg chills. thank you so much for uploading all of these <3333333

  • adam & anthony :)

i saw them on tour in may.

    best. day. of. my. LIFE.

    <3

  • i am sooo jealous.

    i loooove RENT. =D

  • mann, i saw them last month and they are still this amazinggg. gahh!!!

  • So fucking nineties. So fucking beautiful.

Anthony Rapp is so uniquely expressive in his performance.

This song really encompasses a lot of important aspects of the song.

In America, you, unfortunately, are what you own.

This is about friends living at the turn of the millennium.

In the late 90's, they unfortunately had a more gentrified, trendy, religious, neo-conservative America to look forward to, even if they didn't know it.

  • OMG!! this is amazing!! :D thank you so much!!

  • Anthony's adorkable! ^_^

  • i was born the opening night of rent . in fact my dad was at the performance and had to leave because my mom went into labor. he was friends with a close friends of johnathon's. my dad died two months later. anyways my mom always jokes that i am the reancarnation of johnathon larson because i am so obsessed with rent. idk why i just shared my life story but i figured fellow rent lovers would understand! i've also eaten heuvos rancharos at the life cafe. they're good they're like nachos with eggs

  • omg I was born on April 29th 1996 tooo!!!!!!!! and omg my mom told me that when i was little i used to hum seasons of love even though i'd never seen rent before, she thought i just heard it on tv or something but then when i realized last year that i was born on the day it opened i told her and she was like OMG that's not a coincidence that you used to hum it!! lol...

  • @twihardtwilightfan that's pretty awesome you were born opening night. Just think...as you were coming into the world this amazing musical was on performance. lucky >:(

  • @twihardtwilightfan Yeah ... the musical was on for a month and 3 days before i was born :) and i live in ireland .. so i didnt get to see it on broadway.. :) I'm planning on being in a revival though :L

    No day but today :)

  • @twihardtwilightfan Very cool story. Thanks for sharing it!

  • Anthony is so spaztic. Haha.

  • Anthony's my favoritist ever :)

It's funny to see how the "I quit" has evolved into I QUIT!!!!!

  • Aw! Anthony was only 24, Adam, 25!! <3 Aww so young. Now, still so lively!! (saw them about a month ago...)

  • Anthony looks like such a baby!!! I love him....he's amazing.

  • i love anthony's hand movements!!!

    XD

  • yeah he's great... and so bloody CUTE i just wanna put him in myh pocket! x3

  • My gosh...I remember seeing this not too long ago...This has always been one of my favorite songs from the whole musical, and whenever I saw it just a little ago live with Anthony and Adam...it was confirmed...seeing them cross by each other like that taking no notice to each other...such great symbolism...I remember seeing that and just being like..."Whoa..." It's just so moving whenever they do that...I can't really describe it lol...great song...great performance...I love those two

  • aww Anthony looks so yong :) I love them :)

  • They're so amazing!!!!! XD
