  • There were two RC servos. One for the safety, and one for the trigger.

In the video there is a point where two toggles are flipped on the transmitter. The first is the safety, the second is the trigger.

  • whats the mechanism for firing the gun?

  • The robot isn't autonomous, it's remote control. The stereo cameras sent the images to the stereo head mounted display. This provided the stereo vision and made it feel like you were actually sitting on the front of the robot.

  • How did the robot demonstrate stereo vision autonomous navigation

  • I tried using one motor per track. It didn't have enough power to climb straight up. Now it has enough power to tear your fingers off if you put them in the wrong place. I used Toyota power window motors because they are easy to get on Ebay and they are cheap and reliable. There are two motors in the front of each track. The motor to rotate the tracks is a BMW power seat back motor. It takes about 40 foot pounds of torque to rotate the tracks. I don't know of a servo that powerful.

  • WHat would it cost for a non-profit SAR group to have you build/sell one?

  • what did you use for tracks?

  • The tracks were made using Delrin and urethane. The links were 1/2" delrin machined to fit together like hinges. Then a cast urethane traction lug was put screwed to the top of the delrin pieces. 470 parts were made to make the tracks. They were very strong, had good traction but a lot of work to make. You could duplicate them with a table saw, a router and a drill press. Thanks for asking.

  • WOW! Super cool!

  • Futureboy3,

    Thank you.

  • wow nice this just climbs over nealy anything that a normal rc toy couldn't do

  • Hacker,

The robot has 4 Toyota power window motors to move the tracks. There is enough torque to do some real damage. The auxiliary tracks work great for getting unstuck. It's really fun to drive. The stereo vision makes it feel like you are in the robot.

  • @SandbergDJ 4 Motors? Couldn't you do it with 3? Right Tracks / Left tracks / Lever arm

are you doing Front Right / Front Left / Rear Right / Rear Left and a servo (or two) for the arms?

  • Hot

    hotter

    this robot! :D

  • damn, that things mean. Some other airsoft robots were okay and had Minis on top. BUT THIS IS EVIL!! [in that evil-ish-ly awesome way >:)] off road, a real AEG on theo top, hell-yeah!

  • looks like a packbot

  • My grandpa made that robot. He's way cool.

  • Very nice robot there, must've taken some serious time/design to create. The thing that interests me the most is how the stereo vision is achieved. I know those LCD glasses can take an interlaced image and split each field to each eye, so with only one video antenna on the robot it must mean you have onboard circuitry to combine the two cameras into a single interlaced image - where did you get this circuitboard/device to do that? I'd really like to know, thanks.

  • ................ok that was a mouth full lol
