I want to say I love you but he can no longer hear me. If you love someone tell him/her and never stop saying it.

  • @MsClassof1969 heartbreaking sweetheart! may Allah bless you!

  • true artistic genius is rarely recognized in a country steeped in racial hatred..BUT the beauty of a peoples soul shines forth in songs of love like this forever remembered by those of us who will NEVER forget (and we shine from beyond the grave..) these brothers were poor materially yet spiritually RICH..as evidenced by this wonderful mournful ballad..!

  • "A Timeless Classic"

  • I just remember, who sang this song, Classic from my childhood...great post

  • A classic and one of the best!

  • This song is classic. I remember it when I was a little kid. But does anyone know how to find the version that First Class sang. That's the one I remember. If anyone else remembers that version you'll remember in the song's intro you actually hear the car accident that killed the woman they're singing about. If anyone finds it please upload it.

  • Always timeless. I love this

  • indeed a very sad song, however, it's a reminder to myself,as well everyone that's lost a loved one, to keep them close in ur hearts, because they impact ours lives one way or another.... R.I.P.

  • LUV THIS SONG. I REMEMBER SOME RELATIONSHIP DEALIN' WITH OTHERS N SEEING THEM WITH MY 2 EYES. SOME WERE SAD SOME WERE HAPPY. BUT THIS SONG WILL LAST 4EVER WITHIN MY HEART. • What a great story song. sad, but inspiring at the same time...

  • oh man..the mighty Unifics...! Songs from Heaven here on Earth!!!.. today's groups don't stand a chance..!! I am crying...tears of pure joy...!!!

  • this gives meh shivers...how could this have been slept on from mainstream...im.....im....in lost for words!flawless!!theres one!

  • @jagheatsoul30 I fully agree with you. Call your R&B station and request this song over and over again. I would love to see The Unifics on tour. In the very early 1970's, I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Al Johnson, the lead singer at a local spot in Southeast D.C. I hope all will Google Al Johnson and continue to support this Brother. I think I need to wash the dirt out of my eyes now. So I am going to play this song again. Lol

  • @0369DevilDog R and B stations are a joke. They are into Low Brain Atttention deficit, music. BUT MUSIC IS TIMELESS. ONLY PEOPLE GET OLDER. THIS IS ADVANCED MUSIC.

  • @CalypieAndroid Thanks for your reply. You said, "R&B stations are a joke". ADHD music? I have to cut to the chase. What you have said here make no sense to me....if music is timeless, then how is this song avanced music? It was played on R& B radio during my time, not yours. This is our time capsule music. "It's not advanced music". It has been unlocked from our past so you and others can hear it, now! Listen to it agian and think of a lost love you will never see again. Peace.

  • I miss my daddy Sparkmen!!!!

  • The Unifics are truly one of the most memorable groups who performed at the Uptown Theater in Philadelphia. Captivated the audience with their vocals, dance routines, and real-life experience songs. The Beginning of My End always made me cry. Their version of "Since You've Been Gone" was the best next to Aretha Franklin. Does anyone have film of their version? Weren't some or all of the members students at Howard University.

  • @sashchee Yes my Brother. They were students at Howad University. I hope all here will form a movement to request the "re-birth" of the Unifics. There are groups who make the rounds and just sing "old skool" songs. Why not The Unifics? I am going to call Howard radio station WHUR-FM and ask to about this. Also lets see if we can help this song go virual. (I million hits).

  • This song makes my cry. I remember my mons use to sing it loud late night after my father died. Good song

  • Omg! This was ish! A lot of the brothers straightened up after this song came out, thanks for memories. Sad.

  • Lovely....

  • Another beautiful song from a DC group.

  • i've been looking for this song, off and on, for years…

  • Oh yeah

  • That's how singing is done!

  • Lord Have Mercy! This brings back soo many memories. I used to play this record a lot when I was a teenager. Just listening to this man sing about his pain and misery of losing the love of his life in a car accident after they had a silly fight, just makes me cry every time I hear this song. And I have heard this song many times and cried many times. It has that kind of affect on me, even when I was a adolescent. It touches your heart to the core. Soo beautiful.....

  • We really need a change in the air now....ppl are really suffering out here. I don't want to see ppl give up on life. Sometimes this music is our only comfort and it helps us make it through another day. The memories attached to this music is all some of us have to hold onto.

  • @BLKJEW01 wow! amazing how you sum totaled my feelings exact to point, who could have possibly have imagined things could and would end up so dismal,. this current generation has truly lost course.

  • 1969 was a very good year...change was in the air

  • @MrKeithMJones YESSIR! I WAS BORN! Lol

  • This is a powerful from childhood.

  • On jan 16, 2009. I was stabbed in my head 10 times, burnt with hot cooking oil, and cut up with a scaple.. I played this songs for my sons and now they understans that could have been without their mom......

  • Powerful lyrics that touches people in every way. If u can feel this song u know life is precious. Great song

  • My grandfather pasted when this song was out,so it means a lot to me.Everytime I hear it,I think of him.

  • my little sister and I used to listen to this song, and felt every word ( we were ages about 7 and 9 years old !!!! ) we still remember every word to this day :]...........

  • rememberthis song good music todays musuc is not loke this

  • this has a lot of meaning

  • @randolph65 Amen to that!

  • I love this song it mean so much to me because I lost my son

  • I've been telling my now adult kids about this song for 20+ years, and finally they can hear it. This song is a sobering reminder that 99.999% of the things we fuss 'n fight about really don't matter. If this doesn't put it all in perspective nothing will. THANKS for uploading this sad-but-inspiring song.

  • Im so glad someone remembers this song. I've been trying find someone in my age group who could tell me the name of the person who sung this song, but no one knew what the heck I was singing.

  • @mslovelace11 Me too! I know exactly what you're saying. YouTube and this internet ain't no joke! Right?

  • which is why I DONT like to argue with the ones I love. Because tomorrow is not promise to any of us. And I am glad that the last words I said to my mom was "I LOVE YOU" and "THANK YOU FOR BEING MY MOTHER". I never spoke to her again.

  • The GREATEST STORY Ever Told On Wax!!Washington,DC's Own...........:-)

  • @Bign2bdign In '72, I was a Marine in DC. I would cry inside when I listen to Mr. Johnson sing this song for me at local DC night spots. Only GOD knew why, and HE wasn't telling.

In 2008, I kept calling a long-time lady friend in FL, but got no answer. Finally, I called her co-worker who told me that my friend had died and was buried. I was going to ask my friend to marry me. Now, I sing the words to song from an unknown deepness in my heart. I thank God for my friend and Al.

  • @0369DevilDog My God brother, I don't know you, but I feel you. Your heart, your pain & how the pain in it is deeper than any ocean that ever exsited. & your love for your friend was even deeper & still is. This song is so hauting & brings out what's in the heart & soul only to well. Semper-Fi DevilDog....Semper-Fi.

  • @macreal65 Thank you Marine for those uplifting words. In July, I moved one state from Florida where she lived. Soon I will contact her twin sister, and go to her grave site. Her co-workers and twin sister thought her daughter had contacted me for the funeral. No one contacted me. I had just visited her weeks before she died. But I will always remember her smile, laughter and the years of fun we shared here on earth. God, I miss her so much! I will post you when I get back to Alabama. Semper Fi

  • @0369DevilDog Ok DevilDog, I don't know how to even respond on about the journey that you are about to embark on. I know you want to & I know you just have to also. It's the kind of vist that nobody wants to make. I hope that it lighten your heart & you can find some sort of peace of mind my brotha, I really do. So may God bless you with a lighter heart & give your mind rest. & may another special lady enter your life to help ease your mourning soul. You take care DevilDog...Semper Fi.

  • I love this. It takes me back at least 30 years.

  • This song is forever in my memories because it became so much of my youthful days as I would play it on Saturdays as I cleaned house along with so many other songs of the era. It's truly a fine classic like myself.

  • I was fortunate enough to see The Unifics perform at The Apollo when I was a kid. They were amazing. I truly had never seen a group with moves like there's before or since. I had the pleasure of meeting Red while performing in D.C. What a nice guy an still as amazing now as he was 300 years ago. I am glad they're back together again.

  • my brother ( now age 48) called me yesterday and asked " what was that song, you know, the one where the guy was singing about a hearse I "ve been thinking about it all day- and you used to play it all the time when we were kids"....

so OK that tells me a lot. However, I did look it up and I DID play this song all the time. I grew up to be a jazz singer - all the sad, misery oriented songs ,LOL.

  • Talk about a great memory-this is it. As sad as this song is, I loved it then, I love it now.

  • This is a sad song that actually puts a picture of the story in your head.

  • My uncle used to play this when I was just a kid in the early 70's. I've always liked this song and never knew who sang it. Sadly my uncle passed away in Sept. of 2009 but the memories I have of him will always remain. He was more like a big brother to me and this along with other songs are forever embedded in my heart. Thanks for posting this timeless classic. Very much appreciated.

  • @desmondshw i'm sure your uncle is in a much better place now, if he used to listen 2 music like this then i know that his soul was in the right place.

  • @sunmanpatoo I too have similar memories with my father and my uncles with songs like this -- played in the car or in the house. Great memories indeed! Well said sunman & desmond.

  • thats some disturbing shit when you get a call like that .. especially when you just got done arguing or fighting and you know when your significant other just walked out the door never knowing if you are ever going to see thyem again.

  • @markms2002 My Brother I pray that this did not happen to you. It is a pain I can not put into words. If you have to let them go. Let them go with love and not anger, Because when they are GONE, they are not coming back. Since I heard this story song by Al Johnson in '72, my life has never been the same when it come to my loves of my life. When we had to part, I made sure we departed in love. I was going back to one and she died before I got to her. The pain was nothing I had ever felt before.

  • @0369DevilDog it didnt happen to me my brother no i know someone that it happened to my best friend he got into a fight with his mom and he left to blow off some steam and they rushed his mom to the hospital and when he worked up the heart to see his mom he already knew it was the beginning of his moms end when she died he was torn apart he the youngest he was a mommas boy he was the only boy out of seven

  • this song will alway bring back memories of my high school years. Back then we were focused on growing up and going off to college with specter of the Vietnam war hanging over us. Many loved ones and friends went and a few did not make it home. I lost a very dear friend and his funeral was the same day as my senior prom on May 29, 1969. When they played that song, I simply lost it. R.I.P. Eddie.

  • Really!!!! Where?

  • He was at the Carter Baron.

  • @VTERRELL Oh wow how did I miss that show? I met him in DC back in the '70's and he is such humble a down to earth Brother, I heard him during an interview on WHUR one night; and you can hear the the love of people in this Brothers heart.
