  • i cannot imitate it...difficult for me..but my compliments!

  • Me and my friend are doing this as a duet for solo ensemble! Being that we are only freshman and its a class A duet we are excited to see what we will number!!! Personally i thought you both did an outstanding job!

  • Dudes its a piece for countertenors, go falsetto or go home!

  • I think that unfortunately most of these holier than thou critics have NEVER been on stage,, To the critics, get back in your box,, To the young men,I volunteer my harpsichord if you should ever be in Maine,,just for fun and enjoyment,,,after all, isn't that what music is all about?? Cheers,,Ben

  • My ears are bleeding now...

  • Good grief! The comments posted on you tube by music snobbs sometimes make one wonder if they have any humaity at all, let alone feeling.

Regardless of the performance, it is amazing that theses boys are singing at all, never mind Purcell. They are some one's pride and joy. Leave the spiteful abuse out. If you want to hear it sung beautifully, there are plenty more postings you can listen to and wallow in.

  • Good God, just awful... I think I died inside very slightly.

  • The voice is too low, the original is supposed to be higher

  • "Sad the trumpet! " hahahaha

  • Give these young men a break! Very good fellows God Bless. I enjoyed

  • ouch!

  • yeah, much better in falsetto! But not a bad performance at all!

  • @SayidShazeen: give them a break. It's amazing enough boys that age are willing to sing something beautiful instead of duffduffduffduffduff or whatever it is they call music today!

I noticed the kids sing it waaay too slow. It's supposed to be a happy ditty ... but this sounds more like a funeral tune.

And yeah, there has to be a delicate harpsichord, guitar or lute accompaniment behind that piece, not a loud, pedalled piano-thundering!

    The kids are cute, though

  • Lol funny...Thought it was soooo funny how it was sung an octave lower than it was meant to be sung. Thats okay

  • The fact that these two are actually singing ...and singing this piece.... is enough to make any negative comments made here very mean spirited. Well done boys.

  • Well done guys, a bit hard not to laugh after seeing Scholls, Deller and co sing it.

  • guy on the left is getting into it

  • wowwwwwww this is so good! Just wow! Amazing!

  • I think you guys might do well with either pop or maybe broadway, but I'm so curious as to how you came across Purcell. I'm not saying you couldn't sound good on some songs, but this was poorly chosen. Purcell is crying in heaven.

  • Hey?! THAT was good. Tough piece, it's especially tough to compete with the past of this song, which as you know, is usually performed by higher voices. Despite what critics are saying, what you've done by not rolling your "r's," & staying casually dressed, if anything, is make this very old song appeal to today's generation. Bravo, keep singing!

  • Everyone seems to be bothered that they aren't singing as countertenors. I'm bothered that their technique is attrocious and that their teacher would let them perform this. I don';t care what voice type sings it...man or woman....as long as its sung with good technique and interpretation.

  • lars and me*

    :)

IMMA BOUT TO DO THIS SONG

    its cool sounding

  • @laurapposite Actually it isn't necessarily Lars and me - there should be a preface to the sentence, and if the preface is "This is" then it would be Lars and I, considering is is a linking verb, so you'd need the subjunctive case. But it if were "this is a video of" then yes, it is Lars and me.

  • @PianistandFencer I think you mean the nominative. The subjunctive is a mood, not a case. It is used for cases where there is doubt or imagination (e.g. If I were ...). Normally, I wouldn't say anything, but since you brought it up, I thought it should be alright.

  • @allanjmcpherson Right you are!!! Thanks so much for the correction! I didn't even notice the slip up

  • you two are so cute

  • An excellent effort, guys. Not the easiest of duets. Enjoyable... thanks for posting.

  • It's like a surfer dude version of Purcell.

  • Your voices are good and you have the melody concept well, but you need to concentrate on getting your voices more into the falsetto pitch as it was written for

  • not good enough for Purcell or anyone listening. this is for countertenor voices and a baroque singing style. It needs to be crisp and the melismas should not be legato and for goodness sake more expression its not only about what you hear when you are performing.

  • disgusting i was expecting a countertenor

  • Haha that's so cute!! Nice attempt, but you need to work harder!

  • u guys should ise more diction u can barely

understand what ur saying and u guyss are

going supper flattt :P butt good try! (:

  • natural voices singing this....hm...interesting...

i like it, though it can be improved upon...

i wish the piano wouldn't drown the voices so much...

  • -.-

  • ha ha ha

  • Really really bad, with no conviction... Terrible...

  • dont give up hope fellas. your voices would fit right in with punk rock!

  • Could you sound anymore like whiny singers? Use some dome space in your mouth for god sakes!

  • This is really for counter-tenor! Sing in falsetto, and make a bright, lively sound.

There would be scope for some really good singing if you kept the pitch brighter and you didn't make it sound so boring! Cheer up!

Keep working, but try to sing duets that are for Counter-tenor.

  • I'm performing this song, along with the rest of the masterwork, tomorrow with my school. This made me smile. (: It's nice to hear it down the octave.

  • Sehr gut!

  • Everyone else is being a critic; not sure I see them on here singing in front of a live audience. Nice job guys

  • *Quality* of this performance leaves me speechless...

  • sing it up the octave! get it out of your nose! don't be lazy with the notes! i know it's hard to get the notes clean, but please. lol

  • I had to listen to this song in a music exam... it was soo hard not to laugh

  • me too :)

  • Can you tell me why you were (ugly) ties for your class, but khakis in front of full audience? Is this a joke? However, you still do not sound very JOYful - this song is a birthday present, and the people shall be rejoiced to hear it. A little more dynamics, emphasis and JOY - and it would be quite perfect. Oh - and the proper attire, of course.

  • it sounds tooo...american

dynamics are needed and sounds a bit too pop orientated and ye enthusiasm cud make it alot better

  • you both look so bored and unenthusiastic about your singing. This piece is meant to be joyous and uplifting, not so mundane. Furthermore some dynamics and phrasing would be appreciated.

  • obviously a formal concert. i love purcell. good job

  • : DDDD

    <3 Amazing.

  • that's sad for you.

  • i agree

  • next time sing it an octave higher XD

  • what was this for?

  • Presentation absolutely appalling! Age is no excuse for sloppiness!

Both voices are a tad forced in the upper register, as they are slightly nasal in the lower register, but that is simply a habit of the age.

Once again, the edition used is rife with inaccuracies.

  • @eoghdes18 agreed not to mention the accompanist is playing this dreadfully connected and mushy. Poor Purcell :*( this is also a counter-tenor piece. So boys...flip it into falseto.

  • @OrganoAeternam Kids that young are way too insecure for falsetto. I agree on the part of the accompanist, too.

  • They both need some tone and technique refinement, but show great promise. Keep it up, guys!

  • you guys are so cute! good job:D you have good voices!

  • Kudos to both of you!! Clean pure voices; really nice. Please PLEASE continue your vocal studies. You both show so much promise, and I can just imagine what you will sound like as your voices mature and acquire new colors over the next few years. God knows we need some good singers up and coming!

  • good job!

  • is this a joke?AWFUL!

  • Btw I actually like this video very much. The boys don't sing in a 'professional' way but an 'amusing' way... I especially like the shorter boy his facial expression is sooo interesting... just pause at randomly any point and look at him... lol

  • Well sung Throw it and fetch it ! lol

  • OMG!! You suck guys!! :-P

  • Vowels, boys, vowels!! It's all about vowels!

  • you are cute

  • you guys are good! i have to sing this song for chorus, you guys sound REALLLYYY good!!

  • Nice work lads. Don't let negitive comments put you off. Keep singing and work hard at it.

    Ambernecture.

  • Although I'm used to hearing this by countertenors, it's a very nice attempt. You have to work on your falsetto though! Not bad considering your age!! Bravo!

  • ......my god! this is a soprano duet. you guys really bring... surprise...

  • no its not, its a tenor duet

  • Really? How come? coz I've only heard it by soprano duet and countertenor duet before.

  • It's actually an alto (countertenor) duet in it's original form in the 1694 Queen Mary Birthday Ode "Come ye Sons of Art" (Z. 323 I think).

  • O that makes sense. Thanks :)

  • Nice job, guys! (Everyone's a damn critic and a frustrated performer.) Enjoy your singing and the music. :-)

  • Which one is Lars and which one is you.

  • it is absolutely awful. even their outfits do not fit the music. :(

  • That's sugar=sweet

  • I suggest you two take lessions, your both singing through your noses, which-no offence- ruins this piece. Work your HEADVOICE you can do it without your falsetto

  • Okay, you need voice lessons they aren;t singing through their noses.

    just saying.

  • What in God's name are you talking about?? They are not "singing through their noses"! They both have very nice placement, actually. They do have relatively small voices, which is to be expected at their age! What do you want, Thomas Hampson at 16? Doesn't work that way. Please don't insist on handing out critical editorials when you clearly haven't an idea what you're talking about.

  • Oo

you sound really good together, i really liked your duetto Peace

  • they're so cute :-)

  • Aaah...well I like the voices. But this piece sounds a bit sort of bland when it is not sang an octave higher, generally by countertenors, try working up your falsetto or headvoice.

  • u really dont know the sound of trumpet

  • A bit of expression in the face would have been nice, and it truly sounds like y'all are singing through your noses. Work on your trills. The no vibrato works, however, with the time the work was written.

  • Um, not to sound nit picky, but isn't this song supposed to be done in soprano? Because, my choir performed this and our choir director made the tenors sing falsetto since the piece was written for male sopranos.

  • you guys did really good.....i like how your voices blend!

  • WAIT! THAT LOOKS LIKE MY SCHOOL! oh no it isnt. Hopefully.

  • WAIT! THAT LOOKS LIKE MY SCHOOL! oh no it isnt. Hopefully.

  • check the following version on youtube: Best " Sound the Trumpet " - Henry Purcell

  • Thanks for all the helpful comments everyone!!

  • ya'll were better then the other people i saw. like they suckkkkked. u guys were good : )

  • i think im going to die...

    ..this is so...

    bland,LOW,....

i cant even think of words to explain...

im a tenor/counter and ive done this and im now ashamed to say ive sung it!

keep up the good work boys!

  • I don't care whatt everyone else says

me and my twin have to sing this song and it's tough! And I liked it in ya'lls octave. Bravo! keep it up. You all have amazing voices

  • The octaves are too low. Actually, the piece is scored for alto and/or soprano, not even for lower male voices.

  • 2 octaves too low...sounds dull and uninspired.

  • Vocalmente horrible, pero ellos son adorables ;).

  • Oh God, terrible! Hat Ihnen niemand gesagt, dass Sie schrecklich singen? Na, vielleicht nach einigen Jahren, liebe Leutchen...! Mut! At least you try Purcell, that is good; but why do you want to schare that? Hm...!

  • Take it or leave it, but have you ever considered doing this song as counter tenors. It's such a masterfull sound when done with a counter-tenor's voice. Get some recordings of Andreas Scholl, german counter tenor.

    Good luck with your singing.

  • who does it sing with ?

  • you guys def. need a trumpet player for this "sound the trumpet, till around... you make the list'ning shores rebound, to celebrate the glories of this day." nice job

  • dude, who is the tall one? what a hottie... ;)

  • lol
