Love eluveitie! They are great, by far the best band in what you call Folk Metal.

The first album was the best one: galician, breton and mostly irish music, mixed to create a pool of original and unique songs... The tracks from the new albums are great, but they aren't unique as the older works.

I love all types of metal as long as some talent is displayed. I find folk metal to be strange and beautiful. Feel as you will but as for me, I've recently discovered this genre and I truly enjoy it.

I like all forms of metal also, I've been listening to it for 21 plus years. I also like bands that incorporate different influences. HOWEVER, the folk metal I've heard is just plain goofy. I generally picture the "little person" in spinal tap dancing in front of the Stonehenge...

It's not the instruments they use, it's their melodic choices. Violin, love My Dying Bride, Flute, Love Psychotic Waltz and Tull etc. I find the melodies happy and not dark at all.

I like Metal and Jazz, not necessary in the same song per se. There are metal bands that take jazz influences, The Mass, Early Sculptured...but in my opinion to truly be jazz you must have a more improvised basis to your music such as Coltrane, Davis, Dolphy etc...

I will say I have a Moonsorrow CD that mostly avoids the goofy melodies found above that I enjoy at times. So maybe there is hope for me huh?

Folk Metal has many things your include in what your said was metal- Heavy, Fast, dark, sometimes Triumphant (btw, If you where triumphant about something wouldn't you be happy about being Triumphant.)

Metal...can have any sort of emotion, any type of instrument placed in with the normal- Guitar, Vocals (Growls), drums, bass, (sometimes synthesisers/Keyboards) but then again, i'm guessing Amerian Metal and European metal are different because they're dark, dirt, et. btw, folk means "people"

I truly believe that what makes metal so strong is it's ability to incorporate different "influences" within a metal framework and it retains being Heavy Metal. That being said, just because you can, doesn't mean you should.

Would one consider country-metal a valid subgenre, we all know how horrid rap-metal is, what about bluegrass-metal, polka-metal (which this is). As I've stated before choose your folk influences wisely. This is just plain goofy.
