This type of guitars are called "Resonator guitars" but often You can hear people call them "Dobro" (DobRo stands for Dopyera Brothers which are the creators of this type of instruments. They created also the brand "Dobro" for selling their guitars, so during the years, even if other factory started to product resonator guitars, "Dobro" became another way to reference this instruments). My dobro is a "Style O"
I've learned the song by watching Dire Straits' videos (about 10 years ago) and I've "discovered" open tunings at about the same time....
The tuning used in this song is the OPEN G (Low and high E strings are dropped in D, A string is dropped in G...middle 3 strings DGB stay in standard tune)...finally you have DGDGBD.
You can say whatever you want, but that sounds correct to me (besides the fact that the guitar is slightly out of tune).
Very well done!

@DuskY1991
U're right but i had to tune the dobro according to the backing track, which was probably slightly flat.
Cheers :)

:) Unfortunally i noticed that many backing tracks have this problem and It may be a problem for those who want to play along with the video...
Thanks again for Your comment...I've posted other Dire Straits' songs on my channel, check them out and leave a comment if You want :)

Nice. I want to buy one of those. What is it called exactly? Is that the very one that Dire Straits use?

@1Algarve
Style O is also the model that Mark Knopfler uses on tune "Romeo And Juliet". My guitar is a Johnson, Mark has a National.
Cheers :)
