I just find it easier to learn theory and that by yourself and then playin what you want instead of gettin teachers to get you to play crap songs like this. Hey... I'm not trying to be a critic or anything but if you're teaching yourself guitar try learning some scales. Major and Pentatonic are a good start. Just practice them and try learning how the next note would sound. Also, I think I should point out for every note there's a sharp note (one step higher) except B and E, and for every note there's a flat (one step lower) except C and F. It may seem complicated but it kinda isn't. I'll post another comment since I reached my limit
I'll post the notes with the sharps and flats so that you'll see what I was talking about a bit more clearer.
#= sharp and b= flat so start with the first fret of the big string it goes...
E F F#/Gb G G#/Ab A A#/Bb B C C#/Db D D#/Eb
