glut sucks, but I dont like sdl either. I use GLFW, cause I find that it just has the features I need, like creating a ogl context, mouse/key input, timers. And I find it much more intuitive then SDL. Viewing a source code using sdl I only see functions prefixed with SDL. Also GLFW is geared towards Opengl, the thing I need in particular
@duguigne yeah, annoying trolls! meh... SDL isint a bad thing, if one is learning but everyone knows it is a high level framework rather than a graphic api. It also could be usefull to make a cross-platform application, being an extra abstraction level. This being said its also possible to make cross-platform stuff with openGL anyway.
@EdynWardenhari SDL isn't an educational only framework, it as been used many time to develop game professionally. It's only a very high-level framework, that does mostly graphic both many other things too as QT, GTK, Swing...
glut is a toolkit for open GL being a graphical API. SDL is much higher level and thus far less flexible. SDL is also offering terrible performances and is there only to help students learning programming.
@EdynWardenhari - er, you have that _completely_ backwards. GLUT is a noobish piece of shit, SDL is way more flexible. The fact that SDL doesn't provide a (really shitty) pre-packaged application loop is a _positive_ thing. Sure, you have to write more code to get it to work, but when it works it works how you want it to work, not how the moron designers of GLUT thought it should work.
Anyway, I'm probably wasting my breath... you seem to be a GLUTsucker.
