they were replanting long before 1994, at least in the US, it's just good business sense, if all you have to do to harvest big trees is to plant small trees why wouldn't you? it also gives them the choice of harvesting trees at different stages of growth for different types of timber. had they not, the trees wouldn't have lasted long after the railroad related lumber boom.

The video is of lodgepole pine trees. These trees grow in same age stands about 30-40 years old. They evolved to regenerate after periodic fires. Notice there are no small trees. These trees do not thrive through selective harvest but by clearcut and replant. 5 years post video you would see 2-4' trees everywhere. In 30-40 years it would look exactly like the background. The fact is that companies that use natural resources to create and refine products that are essential to everyday life will and do cut corners at the expense of our environment AND YES it is important to look after it - the consequences of neglect are more than obvious today.

No desertification occuring but some humans just may develop an attachment to a particular tree, a tree as an individual plant(trees could be respected more than other plant life such as grass or shrubs).
Attachment, empathy for the life of the trees can cause conflict with others but we can't help it.

they were replanting long before 1994, at least in the US, it's just good business sense, if all you have to do to harvest big trees is to plant small trees why wouldn't you? it also gives them the choice of harvesting trees at different stages of growth for different types of timber. had they not, the trees wouldn't have lasted long after the railroad related lumber boom.

The video is of lodgepole pine trees. These trees grow in same age stands about 30-40 years old. They evolved to regenerate after periodic fires. Notice there are no small trees. These trees do not thrive through selective harvest but by clearcut and replant. 5 years post video you would see 2-4' trees everywhere. In 30-40 years it would look exactly like the background. Misleading comments puts all of this persons rhetoric in question.

Most junk mail is made using virgin fibers. Also not every tree cut down is replaced. Many clear cut areas are for homes, wal-marts or for crop land. Renewable resources are not renewable if they are exploited too quickly. This is USUALLY the point most environmentalist try to make. We need to work towards building our society on sustainable practices, not just a clear cut and move on mentality. By over exploiting resources we are digging our own grave
