The only way to do a reunion is like Freddie BOOM BOOM Washington said, have all of them there talking about it. To have then do a movie in character would be pretty stale, like asking a 1960's singer who hasn't sung since to do his hits and do them perfectly.
lawrence looks like hes only aged around 5 or 10 years amazing if the fro was back you would swear we were still in the late 70s god bless that show thats when life was still clicking on all 8 cylinders
what year was this taped???Welcome back KOTTER was one of the last great shows--suprised there not much on the YT--i wouldve asked him--wheres your homework??--he wouldve said -HI,there,my homework! i dont have it here handy (with a smile)
Taped in 2006 or 2007, I think. I am hoping there will be a well-made reunion movie still. He's right, it shouldn't be done at all if not made well, and in the current climate, most studio execs won't do it UNLESS it is shitty. Meaning demographics, stats, and different actors hoping to make money, not art.
not made well, and in the current climate, most studio execs won't do it UNLESS it is shitty. Meaning demographics, stats, and different actors hoping to make money, not art. wow---that is so true in what you say--why is it like that these days??
he's soo funny i'm so happy he's my uncle. yes that's right lawrence hilton jacobs (known to me as uncle larry) is a funny guy and loves to have fun all the time but when it time to get serious he gets serious
Yes, I would love a reunion movie. I was very young but I remember watching with my teenage sister. He should start writing it since he seems to have an idea of how it would work.
I believe only season 1 is out in the states. But after 30 years, that's good that it's out at all! Other than that, it's rarely on cable reruns here.
Can you tell me more info about the Mr.Rhodes episode? They all showed up but only for seconds on an ABC ?? 50 years of type of TV special to recieve an award. Also, there is the SNL welcome back kotter/tarantino skit with only Travalota from the original cast.
I met in in 2005 and he was just the greatest. Ive met huge stars (Leo Dicaprio) etc , but was thrilled to meet Boom Boom Washington (: and he seemed like a really good dad to his kid also (: i was soooo happy!
I remember when I was like 7 (im 17 now) I use sitdown with my dad and watch Welcome Back Kotter on TV1 (station that plays all these old shows).. my dad still loves that show to this day... I loved it aswell.
Very cool interview. He was amazing as Joe Jackson, surprised he didn't win an Emmy...was he even nominated? He was every bit as good playing Joe as Fishburne was playing Ike Turner. Good job on the interview...a very friendly feel to it.
As to the "Reunion Kotter" question, I'm neutral on it. I'm certainly old enough to remember the show, it was cool, but I'm not certain I want to see a reunion special. I liked the series, but I didn't love it.
I would LOVE to see LHJ do a commentary, a "What Ever Happened To", etc., (along with the other cast members) for the Cooley High DVD.
What this guy said, was right on the dot, about remakes.

I liked him in "Welcome Back, Kotter" (1975 - 1979) and "The Jacksons: An American Dream" (1992). Great works!
But I'll always remember him as Richard "Cochise" Morris - "Cooley High" (1974).
