just my two cents: the song is i am john, so perhaps he is speaking of setting goals for himself and only needing himself yet being a failure and always letting him down. but he knows thats the inevitable end "i will always let you down". maybe the lovers part is when he has motivation to go throu with his plans.

Wow! Jee, how dark and sad can this video be? The song is so uplifting, i would never expect this. There's even a whole grim reapers orchestra. I feel heavy and i feel like crying after watching it. I guess the contrast (happinnes of song x darkness of video) only makes the vid seem even more sad. But it's a great one. It reminds me a bit of Radiohead's Paranoid Android.

hmmm this has prob. been said before but,

what i took from this video is that the killing is a metaphor for pushing people away. The guy shooting everyone thinks so little of himself that instead of letting people get to know him, he'd rather act like a douche and push people away. He does that because he feels if he acctually opens up that he will "let people down" and he'd rather not know them at all then let then down. The guy even says "i will always let you down" at 0:57.
