I'm curious about the claim over women's rights. The Representation of the People Act 1918 was under a Liberal/Conservative coalition. The Primrose League (1883) was a Conservative group and the first to bring women into the political movement and the first women MP to take up her seat was a Conservative (Nancy Astor) and the fifth Reform Act (1928) that lowered the age of women voters to 21 was under a Conservative government. At least you didn't claim to have won the 1966 World Cup this time.
@footbetdotnet The claim over women's rights is due to the fact that the Labour Party was the only Political Party to publicly support womens' suffrage as a manifesto promise. They stood alongside suffrage societies. And plus, the first woman minister was appointed under Ramsay MacDonald's Labour Government.
They were referring to the defeat of the rise of Fascism within British society, which is associated with working class, Labour people in the East of London fighting back against the black shirts.
@brett18uk Sure, but it's a mistake to think working class == Labour Party. Communists and anarchists were also involved in the battle of Cable Street, and the Tories do have some support in working class communities.
My history from my fathers mothers father..the first Labour member of Rochester city council to be elected Mayor of Rochester....It would be an insult to defile his memory (and he was a great grand grandfather)
Labour deserves to win, but won't. Either way, give it a year or two and voters will be crwling back to Labour when they see the damage that the Tories will do.
@ToManyPhones we cant think like this.. we must remind Britain of their carnage .. WE are the fighters for Britain's future and we can't let anyone forget it!
So much achieved in so little time. This is a truly inspirational video and doesn't begin to show all of Labours achievements. Heres a few extra achievements to add to that long list; -DD act -Peace in Northern Ireland -Maternity leave and pay -Highest Child Benefits -Crime down by 1/3 -Shortest waiting times in the NHS -Guarantee of seeing a cancer specialist in 2 weeks -Record Results in Schools The list is continues and will still grow but only if we stand and fight VOTE LEFT VOTE LABOUR
What have the Torries done for us? Their only aim is to make money for a few. Labour wants to make the world a better place. We may have lost our way slightly over the years but we're still better than the Thatcherites.
My pride at this video knows no bounds and I came to read the comments expecting the usually mauling that we have been getting online recently but what I have read has made my heart swell and made me cry as much as the video did when I first saw it at Conference in Brighton.
Stand proud, be strong, Vote Labour because we have done and will do what is right.
This video really resonates with me, we must not forget the tremendous changes labour has made in the last 80 odd years. They've always been fighting for the common man, and even though there have been mistakes along the way, their heart is in the right place.
How can the tories dare to call themselves progressive? All they ever did was maintain the status quo.
Keep up the good work, we should all be proud of this movement.
Impressive Vid! I want an Iron Man in charge and thats Gordo! Not a bunch of chinless lisping fops like Cameron and his infant cabinet closet racists. Down with the Con-servatives!
O my, that was quite emotional! I am surprised, I didn't know what Labour stood for. I was going to vote Greens next year but I might reconsider and vote Labour now, at least it will be more effective against the Tory liars....
Labour should hang their heads in shame when watching this video. Workers rights? Don't make me laugh. Where were you when the CWU was on strike - oh I remember , telling us to get beck to work , that our working conditions were just fine , and that Royal Mail is a wonderful employer. You lost my vote when you invaded Iraq, you'll not get it back until you return to the old and proper workers values!
I am generally very skeptical of any politicians after watching Yes Prime Minister as a child, but Sure Start is actually a very very good thing. Research in America shows that $7 are saved for every $1 spent on this type of programme because of reduced anti-social behaviour further down the line. That also means obvious benefits for society, communities and the children themselves.
That being said, the only politician I would trust entirely would be Josiah Bartlett and he isn't running;)
After toppling apartheid, building the NHS, bringing peace to Northern Ireland and winning the second world war.. isn't it hard to stifle a giggle when Gordon Brown suddenly pops up @1.24 with... (drum roll)... Sure Start :-)
But I mock, GB is clearly a great man - just look! he walks with Barack Obama, at 2:12.
I'll tell you what I'm voting Conservative at the next election but what was so captivating about that was the fact it felt different to all the other videos and party political broadcasts then it hit me, it wasn't an attack video at last!
Though I do think its unfair to claim that New Labour got the Northern Ireland peace process, John Major had started that long before 1997.
I know a libdem voter who saw this and will vote labour now. Labour must get their act togerther, they have more to be proud of then ashamed of and showing this on mainstream tv would make sense. Tories can't recall the old days as they did nothing but disappoint
Ohhh does anyone know the name of the song in the background, it would be perfect for my grandads funeral nxt month. Plllllllllzzzz does anyone kno??

In a national government with Labour. Though I think they were a bit self-righteously referring to Britain as "we" at that point.

We need more of this type of video over the next few months.
There's so many more things the Tories would never have done that are now taken for granted by people as having always existed.
Childcare vouchers, tax credits, civil partnerships etc etc
