Everything in this game looks awesome, except for when your plane nosedives into the ground and nothing happens. That was kind of anticlimactic.

@Traece Too much Hollywood. Most of the times these planes wouldn't just explode on impact, the same as cars don't just suddenly explode then they hit something. Most of their frame and body consisted of canvas and wood there wasn't a lot of room for combustible materials like fuel and ammo - neither of which would necessarily cause a large explosion on impact either.

@Tabby266 Actually not true was readiing a book by a WW1 pilot who had an engine fire during a dogfight...he said he put his plane into a stall and when the AC flell the wind put the fire out also said if he had been flying for the Germans he would have been able to bail out..this was in early 1918

@usselliot76 In early 1918. For most of the war they had no way of getting out...if they managed to land then yes they would survive. In fact an ace, commonly known as the Red Baron, almost had his wing fall off.

The Red Baron, otherwise known as Manfred, or the Ace of Aces, was shot under his armpit.

He managed to pull out of the dive he was in before he nosedived into the ground, and landed his plane. He died right before the plane came to a stop.

i play off and also first eagles but somehow i have a very hard time to even shoot down a single plane in rof.

i dont even see hit effects so i have no idea if i even hit the plane in front of me just 50 meters away , thats very frustrating and i wish there would be better visible hit effects when bullets hit a plane.

Wow , the ground collisions are Terrible. Red baron 3d did a better job with its cracking wood sounds. Those planes would be accordions crumpled into torn canvas and splinters. Hope they fix this.

the air collisions are great, very realistic but i think it takes too long to shoot down a plane on this game, the guy was shooting that plane from up close for like 2 minutes and nothing happened

I think it depends on where the bullets land. Those planes could come back to base in pieces more or less. Or at least, they could take quite a lot of damage before going down.

The physics and damage model look great but could use a little tweaking. The impacts on the ground are much too soft.

A plane falling nose into ground from that height and with that speed would be totally smashed into a hundred pieces at impact.

These planes may have consisted of wood but that does not mean that they were light as a feather and they still had a heavy engine and pilot in them which made them fall like a stone.

it depends what u mean by "solid"...this game is very hard- there is no trim on the planes- so u always have to have hand on the stick- and shooting planes down is WAY harder than it looks...also if u set to 100% realism- it can get annoying at times since u gotta fly for a while- only to get shot down by a tail gunner...then restart the mission, wait 2-4 minutes to load- and repeat that all over again lol...i still didnt get past shooting down 2 recon planes- they always hit my fuel tank

Um, why don't the planes ever explode in this game? I mean these planes are crashing from an altitude of hundreds or thousands of meters and they still do not explode upon impacting the ground. What is up with that?

Because planes don't just explode. They catch fire, cause of the fuel. So if they drop from...let say 1000 ft, and hit the ground, they bend and break. Exploding planes usually happen with modern planes because of the jet fuel. Understand now?

Thanks for the answer. It make sense now but there were still explosions in the First World War in many cases especially when the planes were carrying explosive ordinance.

Yep, your answer is correct. Movie explosions are far different from real ones. There are many horror stories of the slow deaths that some WWI pilots endured. Their tanks are not pressurized at all either, if they were it would be more explosive. Even though I saw you got an answer, I thought I'd add a lil something because I have not been on youtube for a while. ha.

very few, they gave em no parachutes because they were afraid of that the pilots would jump out of their damaged, but still flyable planes.
