if jimmy page were my grandfather, I would spend a lot of time in his house listening to all his stories and watching him and listening play . every second free and every second busy
Well, the diff is these guys "get it", unlike the Stones or especially The Who (ugh). Voices, styles and people change. You can't play music exactly the way it was decades ago, sing it with the changed voices today and sound good. These guys evolved and adapted.
It's like the vocals start off great and intriguing and then you're like wow can't get any better right and then Jimmy just comes in and slams you with that guitar note and then you faint at the combination
if you think about it not everything has been all down for zep since 1980. the 80s were quite a up and down time but the ninties were brilliant i think because of page and plant the ninties is forgotton decade of led zeppelin. and 200s have been and now the 10s look good. 2010 jimmy page solo tour
well yes you're right about the musical content. i actually referenced "Plant's version", and made no comparison to the riffage. but since 'whole lotta love's' writing credit went to the whole band it was 'led zeppelin' who was successfully sued.
the lyrics were practically verbatim. who wouldn't have sued? robert said "you only get caught when you're successful".
nice try, the original is written by Willie Dixon, who took liberty with a Charlie Patton song called "Spoonful Blues". Willie wrote his version for Chester "Howlin' Wolf" Burnett, which Dixon plays bass on.
in fact, Zepps, Whole Lotta Love is also taken from a Dixon tune called You Need Love. Dixon wrote that tune for Muddy Waters. Dixon sued Zeppelin and won in 1985. Plants version is similar to Steve Marriotts Small Faces version, who was never sued. Cream gave Dixon credit.
Look into Led Zeppelin 3/6/71, that is Plant's absoloute best performance I've ever heard especially Black Dog. The only other dates that even approach him that night are 3/5/71 Ulster Hall the first 1971 show, and 8/21/71 L.A. Forum.
Dang! Plant really sings hard here for so late in his life. Haven't heard him belt that hard on Whole Lotta Love in any other relatively recent performances. He's going for it here. And Jimmy's on fire. Something in the air here making them go all out.
Thank you for putting these up...this is Hot Hot Hot. I think it's the best job I have ever heard Page do on the the Whole Lotta Love solo! They are on fire here including Michael Lee and Charlie Jones

Interesting choice. But as usual, Robert performs his own original material much better. His voice seemed to energize itself back a few decades.
