@lewtsun wow what a coincidence, a hurricane the SAME DAY a tornado was spotted in downtown raleigh, which is just 2 miles away, and within 5 minutes of that tornado hitting downtown raleigh it hit us.
This WAS a tornado, maybe an F0, but it was still a tornado. Believe me, I'm in weather and climate at my college right now.
@HERPTOLOGY44 Obviously, I know that, that's why I said it wasn't a hurricane. I live in North Carolina and have lived through my share of hurricanes, I know they take hours if not days to pass.
@Toribooluvsu sorry, you're still a bro haha, I posted that when I was worn out, I don't usually say "bro." That was weird of me. But I'm from California so I guess it's mandatory.
But I'm glad you guys are safe! A lot of people died yesterday.
@backupcoolm3n i know. i started freaking out when i heard there was a tornado heading our way. nothing like it i would've ever expected to happen. worst. spring break. ever.
I drove through this (well, drove-then parked @ a gas st.) coming home from work. Scary as all get-out!!! I was IN it from around 3:45 until sometime around 4:00. I had to drive around some flooding on the way home too. Once I was done shaking, that is....
@erinshaw53 GEEZE! that sounds intense. How were you in it so long? I was in the library at NCSU in this video, and I was looking at downtown, all of a sudden downtown disappeared behind the rain, and the rain was going sideways (into the tornado on the opposite side) so I went over there and it was loud as hell! that's where I filmed this, but it only lasted maybe 2 or 3 minutes.
@backupcoolm3n I was on 440 heading south. It was like hitting a wall. Kind of like driving through a lightening-filled cotton ball. I pulled off an exit and waited it out. It took forever it seemed.
@erinshaw53 Hahaha so true! as was the whole campus. I couldn't believe water was coming through the windows though, that was crazy. I wouldn't have been surprised had the buildings collapsed with me in it.
@erinshaw53 I was going south on 440 into it. The rain started, then got torrential. Couldn't see beyond 10 feet in front of me, which sucked because I was tailgating so I (hopefully) stayed on the road to get off the exit. It was like driving through a cotton ball with LOADS of lightening. It was like 4 waves worth of hail too. I heard that a tornado was verified and decided I'd stay put until I saw sunlight. :-)
@erinshaw53 It was pretty flooded and I got some pics of that, but during the *hell* I couldn't even get a pic, it was just gray windshield. Check out someone's post of WRAL's coverage of it coming into town. It's an excellent video!
@flushingcorn haha awesome that you're in Cary! We did get very lucky though, I wanted that bastard to hit me full force! I was scared though, I thought the window I was standing next to might break. It was a lot louder than the video portrays. You could hear wind in the building. After this passed I went downstairs and it smelled like fresh cut grass, because so much wind from outside was pushed in.
@speedomike747 Really? COOL! We have hurricanes a lot, tornadoes don't happen very often, they are more west in the US. But it is very scary, the power goes out often. I would say a hurricane is scarier though, because it lasts a long time, and it's just constant blowing and lots of rain. But to answer your question, yes it is very scary, especially when you are in a tall building.
And I know how you feel, I lived in Wiesbaden, Germany for 6 years, and we never had bad weather, just blizzards.
