It started with Shinken Red, the others as his vassals, show their respect for him and his position in that way, then, everytime they would follow the shinkenger who started the role call(Chiaki not always, but he is the rebel)

That Sentence, is only Halfway true, As a Super sentai Fan, I did watch quite a few seasons of Power Rangers, and for quite a while it was a extremely well done transition from Japan to USA, and there are some seasons of PR that I like more than SS, the main Issue I got with PR is the moments that they cut a lot of things to fit the story they made for that season(something that started after PR Space), and one thing that made me Turn away from PR was the Toy Festival added to it
