most opponents have a hard time hitting frazier because they throw hooks and straights and he just ducks out of the way.foreman threw diagonal punches sort of like a cross between an uppercut and a hook and frazier just ducks face first into those.
Damn, Frazier just won't quit! Even though it was a quick loss, It's kind of scary how he just keeps getting up. He's got a heart as big the Burj Khalifa ... Reminds me of the Rocky films except real life and way more epic.
this is both the greatest exhibition of punching power by foreman and the greatest exhibition of bravery by Frazier. He just wouldn't quit. RIP Smokin' Joe, you'll always be remembered.
smokin joe frazier. there has never been a boxer with a bigger heart than you. I was 5 years old when when you fought Ali. I don't remember much from then , but I remeber you, Ali, Foreman and Howard cosell. RIP, great American, I'm gonna tell my son about you tonight...
@namtesyalp how the fuck can today's european boxers (the best ones being the k bros) destory ali and frazier when a PRIME vitali fighting the best fight of his career can't even knock out old ass slow as fuck unmotivated way pass prime lennox lewis??. In fact if that lennox fight had went on lennox might have even won it.. Prime lennox destroys k bros in 3. And yes i sense racism from ur comment u mongolid jew fuck
Lets be fair Foreman was and still is the most devastating punchers of all time..Ali tactically beat him, Foreman would have done the same to Ali if this fight against Frazier hadnt happened..Frazier had the heart of a lion and no man, i mean no man would have kept getting up after this punishment..i will always love Fraziers tenacity in the ring - the way he slapped his gloves together as if to his "come on, is that all u got!!"
@Niallersz Absolutely no disrespect to Frazier, who I was honoring on this page just before his death...
But I don't think Ali would have suffered Joe's fate based on style. Frasier relied on bobbing and and weaving with a tenatious approach. Ali covered, picked his spots and kept moving. Which is why (barring first round in 2nd fight when Joe moved, but then resorted) both Joe/Forman fights were the same. Ali outsmarted his opponents, as all great athelets. Again, R.I.P Joe - great champion.
RIP Smokin Joe you showed us no matter how many times you got knocked down you always got back up its to bad this will be the last time you got knocked down
@pinboyjorf Tyson is no doubt one of da hardest punchers but I tink foreman had more power he's bigger den Tyson and heavier foreman can put u out wit either hand
@southsidesman Frazier was successful because of his cast-iron balls. He would just keep coming until he took his opponent down or died in the attempt. The man was the physical incarnation of grit.
@melosebrainuhoh It was for that reason why he won the thriller in Manila, Ali conceded but the ref didn't hear him, Joe didn't concede, but the ref heard his handlers.
Philadelphia got a statue of Rocky, Joe dosen't and is living in a gym, the definition of shame.
again, check the info that statue were buy by Stallone and was given to the city BY SYLVESTER STALLONE, that statue wasn't made to honor, it was only to promoted his movie!!!! so HE bought it and gave it to the city!!!!!!
I don't honorless Frazier, in fact I think Smokin' Joe Frazier is one of the best heavyweight of all times, that of living in the background of a gym is not the point (yes, he was robbed by greedy promoters and bad people)

Folks, they didn't stop championship fights in the old days because of knockdowns. If the champ could stand, baby, the fight continued. His corner, if concerned could have thrown in the towel, so don't blame the ref, who did the job the way it was done.
@Rasta19856 Mike was more of a charge inside and go for the single knockout punch. Foreman was like a freight train who just swung those left and right battering rams of arms he had. They say it was like getting hit with railroad ties. Tyson was afraid to fight Foreman even after he came out of retirement and did everything he could to avoid a fight.

@Torvasal Foreman had more power but Joe said he wasn't expecting him to hit so hard. Watch their second fight, Frazier tries to fight like Ali (a style he's not used to) and lasts longer but still loses. It was after the Thrilla in Manila so Frazier didn't have a lot left in him.
@Torvasal not to powerful but style doent match. frazier gets hit with those low clubing shots. he couldnt evade them cuz he cant see them because foreman threw them from the ground. he comes in foreman hits him with hots he cant see, then frazier gets in foreman pushes him off and hits him some more. nobody could have done this to joe besides foreman.
im not saying frazier would have won but foreman knew he was fortunate getting the frazier he did. thi was a shell of the man that fought on march 8 71.
@FuckAvailabilityHard By destroying Frazier I mean the last 4 rds, Ali landed punches on Frazier on will after the 11th Rd especially in rounds 13 and 14, watch them again and you will see what I mean, these rounds are actually what won Ali the fight because the fight was close in the 10th rd, he pulled away on the scorecards on these rounds alone and made Eddie stop the fight, frazier was pummeled down the stretch, no other fighter could have taken that punishment from Ali though, Joe, legend
1) today, the fight would have been stopped after the 2nd knockdown
2) Frazier showed real courage; I can't think of ANYONE who would have tried to continue. It's like Ali said about Patterson, he took his beating like a man
3) Howard Cosell was one of the GREATEST color commentators EVER!
Norton had a lot of heart too. I don't know how he could even walk after that match with Foreman. My father drove all the way to Las Vegas to meet Foreman. My pops had watched him when he was a kid in the Golden Gloves, in Texas. When he shook Foreman's hand, he said the man's hand was as big as a small cantaloupe. Can you imagine that hitting you with the force he had? Probably could kill an average person.
@Tarwater03 He got up, actually went into the fight, a broken, defeated man. Norton could NEVER go up against heavy hitters; just look at the Shavers fight. The only reason he did so well vs. Ali, was that he'd lost so much after his layoff. Plus, he knew how to deflect his jab. Yes, boxers have AMAZING hands, which seem to defy human reality. I guess that becomes an important aspect of what separates a boxer from the average man.
This was just a BAD matchup for Frazier and why he got wailed by GF each time. You can't b an in ur face puncher to a guy MUCH bigger and stronger with same style hitter as you. Muhammed Ali knew how to beat Foreman. Go rounds with him and let him tire. Done....
the fight itself was great. like others, i'll remember how many times Smokin' Joe got up. but, what does it for me is-- DOWN GOES FRAZIER! DOWN GOES FRAZIER! DOWN GOES FRAZIER! '70's had a real who's who, murderer's row group of guys.
@FuckAvailabilityHard You're either claiming that you're Joe Frazier, or that you know what another man thinks. But, naw, I won't be 10 feet below the ground. Upon my eventual demise, the instructions are that the body be cremated, and the ashes thrown in the face of the stupidest person I've had the misfortune of encountering in this life. Good news! Up to this point, your genius ass is #1....
The uppercut at .14 would have killed most people. I'm an Ali fan and thought the way he beat the Juggernaught Foreman was amazing, but give Frazier his due!
I can't believe I'm just now seeing this fight, my God, I think George would be my favorite fighter of all-time if it weren't for that damn grille! I mean, it was a good grille and all, but you used to knock motherfuckers out! Frazier did just keep gettin' up like a real motherfucker though! Head beat your ass, and maybe mine, you don't know me!
I know I'm going to offend a lot of Foreman fans here but here goes! Foreman was big strong, and a well trained boy ,but ,he had one big flaw!! He was a early round fighter that needed to get you out of there quick! He did run out of gas fast,as proven by Clay!
Clay ran his ass all around the ring till George just simply ran out of fuel, then Clay knocked Foreman silly!! Frazier was made for George, came in fast ,George pushes him away, and hits Joe on the way back in!! Joe made no excuses later!
One thing that was pointed out many years later ,was the fact that George pushed Frazier away every time Joe would try to get in close! NOT ALLOWED TODAY, and of course Joe being shorter suffered from Foremans height ,and REACH advantage, and Foremans power! Foreman was an early round fighter ,as seen by what Clay did to him in a later fight!! On that nite Foreman was the boss, but Joe Frazier was a MAN! Frazier (in his book) said Foreman hit like a mule that nite!!!

@Soulblackman
Tarwater03 9 months ago

@FuckAvailabilityHard
Well, Frazier never really caught one on the jaw, he was only knocked down because Foremans punches threw him around like a ragdoll.
MrRoyalFatness 10 months ago
The uppercut at .14 would have killed most people. I'm an Ali fan and thought the way he beat the Juggernaught Foreman was amazing, but give Frazier his due!
TheVagolfer 10 months ago
@FuckAvailabilityHard You might remember the 6 times Frazier got up. I'm not so certain Frazier remembers the 6 times he got up.

Frazier must have taken some severe brain damage during this fight. Nobody could take clean shots from the slugger George and survive.

SIX TIMES!!!! That ref should be put on trial. Good thing Frazier was Frazier, because what Foreman did to him would have killed anyone else.

Joe made no excuses later!

he tried to run at 2:09 xD

amazing pride by smoking joe.
