Andy Griffith is is one of my absolute top favorite actors of all times! He was so masculine and charming. Everything he played in was brilliant, from No Time for Sergeants and The Andy Griffith Show, to Matlock (which I've heard he didn't actually like acting in).
I love seeing the rapport and respect the stars of yesteryear displayed to one another on show like this one. Imagine a panel of today's stars on a similar panel show, and the tabloidy questions they would be asking. Imagine one of the panelist being Ricky Gervais! It would make me want to throw my flat screen right out the window!
@chicagoam1 Pitch the show right, get the right panalists and right moderator, and the right channel and it might be possible to get another show like this. They just need to find someone witty like Mr. Daly who won't just give it away and they need to be able to engage an audience so the audience won't want to give it away either. Tabloid questions? That happened even back then but the reporters were more respectful and weren't as bad as today but questions like that are/were to be expected.
@OriginalAlphathewolf I don't think so. I don't think the stars of today are smart enough. I also don't think the viewing public is smart enough to like it. Eating bugs for money is what passes for entertainment today.
Lousy voice disguise -- a dead give-away almost from the beginning. It's evident that Cerf, the most aurally acute of the bunch, knew who it was when he asked if he had appeared on the Steve Allen Show. Griffith developed much better disguises in later WML appearances.
This was a lot of fun to watch! The well-loved Andy is such an underated actor. Though a master of comedy, it's too bad that he didn't get more heavily dramatic parts like his lead in Elia Kazan's "A Face in the Crowd". Truly one of show biz's most well-loved personalities. A world of thanks for sharing this delightful episode with us. :)
@walleyrt69 It's pathetic that everything nowadays always turns into some stupid political fight. Why can't people just enjoy something without getting into some fight over politics? Enjoy the show and relax.
@walleyrt69 I'm the same way...only you're more kind about it than I am...Now I see him as a traitor. How can such a seemingly great guy be so fooled? Hollywood has such bad influence.
This was pre-Andy Griffth Show. As they said, Andy's movie No Time For Sergeants was a huge smash. Andy got rave reviews for his next movie, a serious drama called A Face In The Crowd
Andy did a better job in his second appearance (where his show was finally on TV)-- his voice sounded a lot more like Boris Karloff. He made it about halfway through before they picked him off.

my great grandfather met him andys kids were brats....my great grandfather owned a general store and it was closing time and andys kids wouldnt leave and they pitched a fit and got their dad and andy asked my great grandfather "do you know who i am?" my grand father replied "yes sir i know who you are..and this is my store and im closin" andy left in a huff but in his place
I thought the customer was always right? I'm not saying it wouldn't have been considerate for them to speed up their shopping, but it doesn't sound like the owner of the general store was being very polite to the people who keep his business actually in business...
If you mean is there a DVD of What's My Line, then the answer is yes. You can find it on amazon, com and elsewhere. Unfortunately there are only 4 episodes on the What's My Line DVD. That is a real shame. The first Mystery Guest is the legendary Lucille Ball and the last is the legendary Bette Davis. The DVD is worth getting for that even though both are on youtube.
@zapkvr Oh WOW! That was Jack Lemmon?? What a treat! I didn't know he was ever on the panel on this show! He DID look young! But I sure did think he looked very familiar and was racking my brain to figure out who the heck he was! There's a singer he reminds me of from the eighties. Not in rock and roll at all. Did soft balad type stuff.
andy is great no matter what he does, obama care or not, oooooohhh,,ohhhh
