  • On my wedding day, I'm going to dance the first dance to this song--by the Mills Brothers and no one else. <3

  • Love the smooth voices and harmony of these brothers. They all were one in a million!

  • Ambrosia

  • If you loved Mills Brothers, you'l also love the Ink Spots. If you like 4 part harmony, you'll LOVE the Acoustix, if you love America; you'll be ecstatic about the Acoustix singing Stars and Stripes Forever

  • Listen to the piano in Meet Me Tonight In Dreamland, it is awesome.

  • It doesn't get any better than this. The sad part about it is that most people will never hear this good stuff. Any music course should include this type of music as an introduction.

  • Absolutely amazing voices and musicianship; talk about being in the pocket...........wow

  • Now, This is music !!

  • This is great stuff! If you like the harmonizing of The Mills Brothers, take a listen to The Boswell Sisters.

  • What is this magnificent sound I am hearing?! Oh wait.. It's music!

  • What a great sound!! Too bad that great singing/great musicianship (like this) has become "a thing of the past," for too many of today's performers!!

  • I SOOOOO AGREE!!! Bring back the old goodies. I love them. I can find noise in a playground ... don't expect music there! LOL

  • I SOOOOO AGREE!!! Bring back the old goodies. I love it.

  • I SING ALL MY SONG A CAPPELLE, PLEASE CHECK THEM OUT

  • @Tarn1968 i went to sleep many nights as my father listen to this great group.

  • I love it... It is one of the most beautiful musical performances I've ever heard.

  • Masterful!

  • @jupitergleek You sound like me...I started listening to the oldies when I was 13 with my grandmother and now I'm 24 and still long for the type of innocence this music has. Sad the music of today doesn't have this type of "magic" feeling.

  • @jupitergleek that is so true

  • @jupitergleek me 2

  • This group is the 'Glen Miller" of vocal groups ....thick, lucious, rich, superb!!!

Good music is good music...... old or new .

  • Like AC7AM, I'm in the same age bracket and just love the oldies. The sentiments take you back to those halcyon days of youth and memories of those wonderful people who slipped through your fingers. And looking back, with the wisdom of age, you can dream about how things might have been, if you had known what you know now. Then again, they didn't turn out so badly after all, did they?

  • When I was a teenager in the 1950's, we had a 78 album of the Mills Brothers singing Barbershop tunes. I played it often along with Bill Haley and the Comets and other music I liked back then. Now I am 70 and this is the first time I have heard this music since then. Wow. But ya know, good music exists in every gereration. But so too does a lt of crap which is best forgotten. I also like the Rolling Stones, ZZ Top , Credence Clearwater and Mozart. It's all good...except maybe rap.

  • I love this!! :)

  • While I STRONGLY agree that most of what is being foisted off as "music" today is nothing but garbage ; I find it incumbent to point out that there are a few (very few) exceptions - one notable exception is "Memories" from Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Cats".

  • When I listen to these wonderful songs and my mind drifts back to the most wonderful memories of my life I can't help but feel a little sorry for our young folks and all that they have missed and will never see.

Thanks so much for bringing them back.

  • Since I discovered YouTube (about 2 or 3 weeks ago), I spend every evening listening to the songs of my childhood, and crying my eyes out. I find it very heartening that so many young people are discovering this music and liking it, maybe there's still hope for the younger generation...

  • @CaptRhett1 I think the same , and youtube has helped so many find what was lost. Take care from Earl.

  • @CaptRhett1 hope? it will when justin bieber will go to hell

  • A hot bath with some hot chocolate will do just fine for me right now and get me totally relaxed.

  • talk about some classy gentlemen,

  • Ah, memories.......I remember these guys (and the girls I listened with) from the 40's.....Their music still has it! I still have the memories!

  • I am dedicating this to my Sweet Angel Barbara whom I will see very soon. These words echo my lifetime feelings. God really did give me an Angel; she saved my life, and brought me closer to God, I love her with all my heart- - forever.

  • Who in the hell were the 3 who didn't like this? For shame!

  • I must be getting old , it made me cry .

My Dad sang this to me too, when I was a child.

    Miss you dad.

  • @Tarn1968 why do i live in canada?!?1 :'-(

  • @Tarn1968 i would finance the shit out of a local radio station that plays this all the time.

  • @mrthrillernight i would too...lets do it

  • Such beautiful music never grows old, only better. What wonderful memories this brings back. I truly feel sorry for the young folks of today who have never experienced this.

  • My father danced with me on my wedding day to this song. I love you dad.

  • How could 3 people actually dislike this music..????..I have great sadness for you, whoever you are!!

  • Did you ever hear anything as pure as this?????

  • This is just wonderful. I wish we had more of this music today.

  • its wonderful to hear singing and harmonising again it does my ears good

  • Gosh, their voices were so beautiful. Their barbershop harmony was relaxed and not the "lock-and-ring" style that can literally make your nerve-endings sizzle in reaction, but they sang so pleasingly that only a total grouch would ever make any kind of complaint.

I love to hear them. Thank you for posting.

  • @GuinnevereB Hearing the Mills Bro's takes me back some. l sang bass in a quartet for 14 years, and enjoyed every minute. We were one of three quartets which were also part of a 52 man Barbershop chorus, all singing in 4 part harmony. lt was really something to hear believe me. The songs chosen by the Mill's were standard grass roots pieces to us,and l still have the music copies along with some 120 more. l'm almost 69 now and the voice has gone, but l miss those days and the guys l sang with.

  • @crankbv1 As a Sweet Adeline I sang female tenor, first with a chorus and then in various quartets. My voice and my energy for all the traveling to rehearsals and performances are gone now, too (I'll be 62 presently), but I have fond memories. Some of the chord progressions are so intensely powerful and beautiful it's nearly enough to make a listener melt where (s)he sits, and I'd never have experienced that without barbershop music, or even dreamed it could be possible. Here's to the memories!

  • AMAZING WE NEED MORE OF THIS MEANINGFUL THRILLING MUSIC ~ <3 ~ THANK YOU ~ NAMASTE ~ MEET ME 2NIGHT ~ WHERE ROSES BLOOM ~ COME WITH THE LOVE :)

  • Great performance of an all-time favorite by a classy Group. It doesn't get any better than that!.

    Thanks for sharing!

  • Just another great song. Mills Brothers are awesome.

  • What has music become now. We dont have anybody with this talent today

  • @Tarn1968, actually, Barbershop is making something of a comeback among young people. Thanks to modern technology, when they can't find three other people to sing with in their area, they multitrack! Even in countries such as Sweden and New Zealand — heck, there are even videos here of four people from different countries singing Barbershop from their own homes, without even being on the same CONTINENT!

    Search "Barbershop Multitrack" here.

  • I'm 79 and these folks have been a standard all my life. Nothing or nobody tops them. They had a sad start but overcame it. Their recording of Paper Doll was the largest selling single record in the decade of the 1940's. So good.

  • @navydoctrinidad ...............You hit the nail on the head Friend

I"m only 58 and have been listening to them all my life as well.

My folks played them all the time when i was growing up in the 50's.

These guys, in my opinion, are smoother than Johnnie Walker Blue.

  • thank you for this beautiful post!!!!!!!

  • If you want to hear good singing, check thru the clips. These guys father was my grandfather's cousin, from Sherman, TX. I actually met the Harry, the lead tenor, for a short time when we were in the Army, and he was passing through to be sent oversears, and I was clerk for special service unit at Fort Huachuca, Ariz.

  • These guys father was my grandfather's, Dero Mills, cousin, from Sherman, TX. I actually met Harry, the lead tenor, for a short time when we were in the Army, and he was passing through to be sent oversears, and I was clerk for special service unit at Fort Huachuca, Ariz.

  • the songs are older then I am, but what talant and voice's. I love them!!!

  • If you enjoy barbershop music (or even if you don't), be sure to check out the documentary film American Harmony for a look at high level barbershop quartets competing at the International Quartet Contest. You won't regret it. The trailer is on YouTube as well as several other places.

  • @zanzan42, the DVD is now available from Harmony Marketplace. WELL worth it.

  • Perhaps the thing I enjoy the most about having a computer and internet is to just do what I'm doing now-stepping back into a kinder, gentler time. Thanks for posting.

  • Heard them live many times in the 40's & 50's. Still the best group ever.

  • Moved me to tears. (But sweet tears they are.)

  • there are no words.... only tears. no music ever moved me like the Mills brothers. God bless them everyone.

  • this is from my time and is timeless, what i love is that it takes me to a happier place. we danced together and sang along. what a great feeling.. euphemia blacklock. mcvinnie

  • One of the great mens barbershop quartets of all time.

  • I'm not that old but I can see such tallent in the mills bros. I need to find more, this IS music...

  • I feel sorry for the piano player who thinks he needs to guide a good singer, and these guys were not good... they were great.

  • Talk about mellow. This is just the ticket.

  • I wish this style of music was still played today

  • Hey Fabian, are you seriously suggesting that the Mills Bros wouldn't or didn't sound incredible without the piano player? They performed a cappella for years, then just with guitar and were without a doubt the best vocal quartet and then trio in the business.

  • Your right, the Mills Brothers are brilliant, i could listen to them all day.

On that basis you would probably say i have good taste in music.

I dont like jazz, in particular the sort of jazz that Miles Davis is known for.

To me its a number of musicians all playing different tunes.

So on that basis, if you are a jazz fan, ( i dont know if you listen to anything other than the Mills Brothers) you would say i dont have good taste in music.

Is that not a bit contradictory.

  • The Piano Player is the one who is truly responsible for making this performance so great. Remember, he has ten fingers and was playing more harmony and was actually guiding the singers through their parts.

I do this in New Orleans all the time !!!

  • he has 10 fingers? no waiiI!!!!

  • im from Argentina and i want to say how much i like this! God bless all America!

  • I close my eyes and listen and time just stops.........can't tell you how much I enjoy this........

  • @denise25denise I grew up on this stuff because my parents loved it.Always loved close harmony as a result....The Mills' Bros are still the best thing I've heard to an orchestra without instruments if you know what I mean

  • this is great! Thank you so much for these fine memories. If I could only go back to those wonderful days with all my family and friends.God bless America!!!

  • so well said you are so right i cannot listen to a radio anymore its not music but people speaking in rhym full of faul dirty talk

  • To say that something is drivel or rubbish merely because it is not to your taste is arrogant and ignorant.

I am 53 and my recent cd purchases have included artists as diverse as Son House, The Killers, Al Bowlly and The Frattellis.

I dont like Rap, millions of people do therefore it is not rubbish.

  • @mr122b -I agree with you. The music you like, is your own choice.

In the same way, nobody can say whether an apple or orange is 'better'- they are both fruits! - you might say you don't happen to like the taste of one, but why try to stop other people enjoying it just because you don't yourself?

  • Absolutely, but you only have to look at the comments on sites like this to realise how intolerent people are of other peoples tastes.

Its not a new thing though, our Grandparents generation thought Elvis Presley's music was mind rotting garbage.

  • @mr122b Hey, bless you, man.

I don't see why everyone's being a bad sport and down thumb'ing you, when you're only being open minded about everyone's tastes. A lot of people hate this kind of music, but that doesn't make it crap, does it?

  • i saw national barbershop quartets who were excellent but then i saw the mills brothers in person in las vegas and mama mia, forget it baby, there will never be another voice group that will compare with them

  • @beriflor Great dcomment!

  • Thank you so much for posting this -- I love these songs, and the harmonies ... wow!!

  • I am sitting here singing along with the song and it makes me soooo happy. :-)) Thank you!

  • I couldn't agree with you more! This is real music.

  • too true

  • love barbershop harmonies

  • My long time favorites - they will never be

forgotten. Brings back so many memories

of growing up and listening to their music.

They just don't make em like that anymore.

  • Beautiful...

My grandmother used to sing this song to me and my cousins when we were kids. It was also one of the songs she'd hum while she was doing the dishes... :') this brought back a bunch of memories, thanks for posting :)

  • The Best of the Best.

  • wow was i lucky saw francis albert and sammy d in person about 30 times each and the mills bros about a dozen times...and people ask me today why i don't go to shows anymore, are you kidding? when they died there will never be anyone to place them, you might give another guy spike shoes and a jock strap and a bat and put him in the outfield as a yankee but baby you'll never see another babe ruth....N E V E R

  • Great! Liitle known fact: Harry Mills was Dean Martin's inspiration - Dean patterned his singing style after Harry. Elvis has said that Dean was Elvis' inspiration. Go figure!

  • Bing Crosby and Al Jolson were equally large influences on Dean and Dean did an album saluting Jolson and his songs called Swingin' Down Yonder. As a matter of fact the Mills Brothers did a record with Jolson called Is It True What They Say About Dixie. Harry is on the right with his arm extended. The man on the guitar is Norman Brown, not a brother. Herbert is on the left and Donald is in the back. A 4th brother John Jr. died early on and was replaced for a time by the father John Sr.

  • Thanks for the info, Carl. I've got Swingin' Down Yonder on LP (I don't believe its ever come out on CD).

  • It did come out on CD from Capitol in 1991(which I have) with 8 bonus tracks that followed the same theme. Then it was reissued on CD in 2005 by another company with only 4 different bonus tracks. You can do a search on the album's title and get some more information. I believe only the second version of the CD is currently available.

  • I play this, and other music, and old movies and at first my kids rebel, but when they actually take a minute and listen, or watch, they really like it. No need for ratings. No foul profanity. Excellent.

  • 5 STARS!

  • I give them 10 Stars - AWESOME - I grew up with their records - And to think of all the racist remarks today just hurts me. I'm white - but it don't make any difference to me WHAT COLOR YOU ARE - WE ARE GODS SPECIAL MADE RAINBOW!!! And that's the way we brought up are kids also.

  • Thank you what a blessing to hear the best music ever. We feel soory for our grandchildren who have no idea how special this music is. Pat

  • WOW!...

And to think of the absolute garbage we're subjected to on an almost daily basis..

GOD BLESS them all--the Mills Brothers.

    And..thanks for this excellent posting!

  • So right. All this garbage and vulgarity, tasteless and shallow. Sad, sad. They have all the money but they'll never have class.

  • This selection is on my Favourite list.

Nobody can beat them-not then and not now!!!

    Brilliant!

    Pete

  • Four of the most beautiful voices. I can still hear my dad singing this to my mom when I was little.....willyleeman's Bonnie

  • What beautiful voices. I remember them from my youth. They were the best.

  • i was lucky enough to go to the same church as one of the original members. too bad i was too young to realize/appreciate that fact.

  • I built an entire career remaking the songs of the Mills Bros. playing in lounges all over and I have always paid tribute to them for the contribution they made to real music, not what the kids call music today....they were an institution that will never be replaced..sadly

  • Amen...there is no music today and the Mills Brothers were unique and extremely talented.

  • rhapsodyinblah, that's a strong statement. I'm 62 now and love all my old jazz records, from Armstrong to Coltrane. But when I now hear Nora Jones sing and play.... whew! Do you know her?

  • I sure do...I just love good music!

  • That's the ultimate statement. Thanks, man.

  • I was born in 1959, long after their heyday. I love Sinatra (esp his years with Stordhal and Riddle), Vic Damone, lots of the really great "old" stuff. Raised my kids on it too.

  • Ah yes...the Mills Brothers. I had to go back to check before I posted to make sure my info was right. The Mills Brothers were ONE of the groups that really helped to spark the whole barbershop movement, since they incorporated barbershop style chords in their harmony. Love their music.

  • Man this music! Alot of noice is produced the past 40 years, that does even qualify to be in the entrance to this studio! Even up here in icw cold and crummie Sweden!

  • Sweet! the harmonies are wonderful

  • The Ink Spots were good as well

  • this song was origionally written for the opening of Dream Land 1 of the 3 parks @ Coney Island

  • made my day. I wish I could be there ant listen to them, and se them having fun!

  • Before the Beach Boys, before the Four Freshman - the hallmark of harmony were the Mills Brothers........and they still got it.

  • Really, really nice! I never get tried of the Mills Brothers and what great songs.

  • This takes me back to when I played my dad's Victrola. (do not ask what year LOL) He had all these on 78's and i loved these so much I wore them out. :) !!!!

  • Some of the songs we sang around the piano on a Sunday evening. Happy memories.

  • Awesome!

  • Wonderful! I wish that this was on a cd. I'd like to buy it.

  • where are the movie? MF

  • Hi there little buddy. Sometimes there isn't any movie. Many times people put a song with only a picture on it. The thinking behind this is that if there is no movie, one can just listen to the music. I feel you should know this just in case you encounter similar content on YouTube. Don't worry, there is nothing wrong with your computer. It is not because your computer is old or anything, or because you must upgrade to Windows Vista. I hope this helps you and perhaps clears up any issues.

  • of course big buddy, of course.

  • hilarious

  • All team in first song sing - i hear John Sr. in common sing.

  • Sweet dreaming dreamland....That's all folks...

  • One of my Mom's favourite groups!

    What memories!

Love it or go play! lol

    I loved it, too!

Thank you so much for this!

    Tears & happiness, too!

    Thank-you!

    xo

  • They were truly an American icon. They're harmonies and phrasing set the pattern for many future groups, especially during the doo wop era. Many today forget that the Mills were one of the favorite groups during WWII due to their versatility and selections. They show what it takes to make good music without outrageous lyrics, clothing, or loud instruments. This music is performed on talent, something many of todays performers think they can disguise.

  • Heavenly voices!!

  • What glee I feel to hear these melodies. Bliss, sweet bliss. Thank you for posting! Where are the emoticons when you want them?

  • I also grew up with the Mills Brothers, they are simply the best, how could these songs be sung any better? Impossible!

  • what a talent . the harmony is simply beautiful.

  • Oh Yes, I must agree that the harmonies from these guys are superb. Similar from that era are The Andrews Sisters and The Platters. Try them.

  • Thanks for the reply. I will look up the Andrews sisters and the Platters. i know them well too.

  • simply beautiful

  • I agree. These guys were part of my early life, because my dad was a fan and bought all their records.

  • i love the mills brothers sence i was like 19 and im 24 now

  • I CAN DIG YOU I AM NOW 23!!LOL

  • Well done!! Real voices, blending, with great musical backing which is not overdone. Congratulations for spotting these guys.

  • @joealanouf cool kid : )

  • Harry Mills was the best!

  • I grow-up with these songs. they were my fathers favorites. THE GOOD OLD DAYS WERE GREAT!!!!!!!

  • Simply Beautiful!

  • really? I thought Herbert was tenor

  • herb had a great bottom but they all had good range.

  • 1959...Harry must have sung bass for some of those songs

    impressive...

  • MOST LIKELY HERBERT.
