James Meeks has no business preaching that we should pay more in taxes. He doesn't even pay taxes, yet manages to get all his buddies jobs at Metra. Screw James Meeks the hypocrite.

Keeping kids at home is not the answer. Some of the greatest African American inventors, leaders,educators were educated during the years of seperate an unequal but they had a desire to learn. Whites in low income Illinois are doing better. As a former subsitute teacher, I knoww the children are being taught. The problem is many don't want to learn. More money for students cannot change that.

I worked for the board of education for a second and I say so much mismanaging of funds and materials it made my ass itch! This is a true story: This particular school that already had G4 macs ordered the G5 Macs two years later and I saw this with my own eyes- the Principal, Dean of Students, and various teachers took 1 or more computers home for themselves-this is not a lie and the computers can be easily traced by the serial numbers assigned to them if they are being use online.

I have a suggestion, solid loving care can not be replaced by money, lets start with taking over the parenting of these doped up parents and watch these children start respecting themselves and each other. These Hood-parents buy thier kids sagging jeans and Air jordans, but won't buy books for them to learn to read at an early age. These kids know everything about MTV and BET and nothing about english, math and sciences. My daughter is 5 and has been reading since she was 3, that's parenting!

what you are seeing in most cases is a by-product of drug addicted parents; did we forget about the crack explosion in the mid and late 80's-these are the crack babies that are high school students now-the school budget has nothing to do with these children not learning it's lack of a solid parental foundation, that's the real problem. How can most of these kids put school first and they are hungry and live in a sub-par environment-not many can block this out a excel in the classroom.

However, if you want school facilities like Homewoods, Frankforts and Orlands you need to start paying a higher property tax or stop paying your elected official so much to hear them talk about nothing. Whitney Young, Lane Tech, Lindbloom and Morgan Park all produce excellent students with the same 10000K per child-only difference they have parents that make their children's learning important from day one. The children that are in school now had to raise themselves.

Tell the whole truth, stop misleading people; the reason why suburban schools have more funding is because the residents pay higher property taxes, dummy-tool for special interest. so called preachers like you have contributed to the downfall of the black people since and before the days of slavery. This is by far the dumbest idea I have ever heard of!I can understand that we want better for our children, but to enroll them in schools miles away from home?Is he going to provide transportation to and from these schools everyday for every child? The state does not care if they don't attend CPS,if anything, CPS will really loose money let alone jobs;what a great, logical reason to do so! i have a better plan. work your ass off, make money, then you can move to the new trier township and pay that property tax for the school funding. not too hard, my parents did that and we're doing just fine at new trier.

or just change the attitude of those kids. education is what you make of it, and if they're unwilling to have it, there's not much you can do if you put them here.

I went to cps schools and I agree that parenting is a big part of kids doing good in school. However, I agree with my pastor as well. I don't agree with taking them out for three or more days but I agree with the boycott. I just attain my Bachelors degree and may persue my Masters but had I had extra school programs to better prepared me for college I think I would have been a better cps student and college student.

I recommend that everyone who is aganist the idea of boycotting CPS on the first day of school should view Rev. Meeks church service, recorded on Aug. 13, 2008. He gives HISTORY to back up his reason for boycotting. PLEASE,PLEASE, I BEG YOU TO LISTEN TO THE TAPE. I Guarantee you will have a change of heart. I am a Chicago Public School teacher and I agree with Rev. Meeks 100%.

As a teacher of CPS I 100% support my pastor's decision to find a solution to educate our youth. Education is power and it is the one thing that no one can take from you. Have faith, be of good courage and rise!

I agree funding is low but a boycott is not the solution I am a student in the Chicago School system. If you miss eight days of school you fail. So what is going to happen then. And even if it doesen't last eight days then how are we going to catch up with the kids who won't boycott.

Money is an issue, this is true but parent participation and involvement is HORRIBLE in Chicago's schools. I am a former CPS student that did well even obtained Masters degree but I'm an exception. I had the same crappy text books and inferior facilities as the rest but my mother CARED about my education. All the money in the world won't help if parents don't take a part in raising their children. No school can take the place of a good parenting.

Dont you think other CPS parents care about their childrens education? Thats a seperate problem. If there are no RESOURCES to teach our children, you can be the best parent in the world- your child will still fail. You were an exception. I can be the safest and best driver in the world, but if my car is a piece of crap, does it matter?

It really doesnt matter whether or not Chicago Public Schools gets funding on the first day of school or not. Whatever funding they got from previous years hasn't worked because the kids are failing.

Funding is not based on the first day of school. This is a tactic that has been used to boast high turnout. Schools can use a combination of the highest 3 months of attendance during the school year for funding purposes.

Has you thought about the possible effects this protest will have on the 2010 fiscal budget? Fuunding is based on attendance. Asking students to skip school will have a significant impact on funding. I agree funding needs to increase but I'm not sure if this is the wiset approach. I also wonder how much of the poor performance is due to parent participation?
