  • I don't mean to be a hater here, but this isn't the correct way to do drop spins.

  • Whoever made this video needs to learn how to spin before they try and teach others..... You would not survive 5 minutes at my practice with this crap you call "technique"

  • If your silk rolls your twisting your wrists when you are bring the flag back up. If that happens twist your wrists the other way. What helps is keeping your thumbs on the seam of the silk

  • I think I might start making videos like this explaining color guard moves.... BUT WAYYY BETTER.

  • @ryebaby its hard to explain, but when you're doing a drop spin and the flag rolls up its because of the way you're releasing the flag. A lot of people tend to do a weird rolling type thing with their wrists and fingers, causing the silk to roll up. My team used to do 100+ drop spins every practice, and my instructor used to get on our case if the silks rolled

  • Your amazing! I just made this account with my friend pink! We will post our 1st video soon! PEACELOVEGUARD12

  • wow you need to come an coach our color gaurd at my school!!!

  • How do u do a drop spin w/o the silk rolling up ?

  • @ryebaby101 the silk rolling up is natural it will do it no matter what it is just a way that flags go. my first year i thought i was doin somethin wrong but it turns out that you really cant help the flag rolling up!!!

  • okay.... 1. it was dark as fukk where she was standing.. why the hell couldnt she move into the light??... 2. she fails at teaching... she forgot to mention that when yu grab the pole with yur left hand yur supposed to have yur thumbs down nd with yur right hand its thumbs up.... 3. she sucks at doing it... 4. shes doin it wrong... its odd down nd even up.. i should be up there doin that shit!!! im waaayyyyy better than her!! GO CHS BAND COLOR GUARD!!!! <333

  • Thanks for the video, this will help me with my Drop Spins when I go to my next pract.:)

  • @vanillapox no we do it how you do it too

  • you dont explain how to put your hands back on the flag after you drop them and when you bring it up again and thats extremely important, because theres someone on our team who always has their hands wrong and it looks terrible. Also you should be standing in 2nd position

  • Just learned some of this today ^^. I remember by going in my head "under, cup." Because the way your hand goes under and then you grab it again in a cup shape. It's all that runs through my mind at that time so I better get good at it before we have to count that xDD

  • I have color guard tryouts next week, and i got everything down except for the toss!! ugh! wish me luck!!

  • EVERY1 ALWAYS CRITICIZING WHAT SUM1 ELSE IS DOIN WRONG! SHE IS DOIN IT RIGHT! DIFFERENT SCHOOLS, DIFFERENT TOWNS, CITIES (WHATEVER!) DOES DIFFERENT TECHNIQUES! ANYWAYS HOW WOULD YOU KNOW IF SHES DOING IT RIGHT?! YOU CAME ON IT FOR INSTRUCTIONS! THIS IS A COLORGUARD INSTRUCTIONAL VIDEO (FOR PEOPLE THAT NEED HELP/ INSTRUCTIONS)...I APPLAUD HER FOR BEING THE ONLY PERSON ON YOUTUBE THATS PUTTING UP COLORGUARD INSTRUCTIONALS....IF SHES DOIN IT WRONG HOW ABOUT U POST A VIDEO OF THE CORRECT WAY!!!!!

  • I'm practicing for being a color guard at my school! :D It looks fun, even though my friend said parades killed her arms, back, and her face hurt from smiling so much.

  • im trying out for my school's color guard! try outs are all next week and i CANNOT wait!!! :)

  • @TheLoganLermanLuvr i am also having try outs, GOOD LUCK!!! :D

  • @abbylee62 thanks, good luck to you too!!! haha we learned basics on monday, and now tuesday-thursday we r learning a routine and friday we have to perform it..... XD,

  • I was always taught to do drop spins with tab at the belly-button. And that you never touch the silk more than the first spin. Is it only because my school is teaching it differently?

  • i jus started color gaurd in school this year but i already no how to do it its realy easy iv jus learned like a week ago n were already doing our ruteen

  • Does anybody know a choreographer for colorguard that can video chat me and my colorguard troupe?

  • thats just like a push pin...

  • its called the crutch tip and the tab!

  • you should straighten your arms more and present the flag.

  • when we do this we star @ order arms.

  • you suck

  • i can do that!

  • Whenever i do drop-spins my flag rolls up how do u stop that?????

  • @starcutie41532 you just have to keep working at it. when the flag rolls up its because you move your wrists wrong when you do it, so just keep working at it and it will go away.

  • @starcutie41532 think about grabbing the seam of the silk between your index finger and thumb with your left hand (for right drop spins) each time your silk is down.

  • That's great and all that you guys know better than what she is doing, but this isn't a channel by the little girl... so you're kind of ranting to the channel owner. It's not like the girl checks her video all the time for comments...

  • we call the tape that connects the pole and the silk a "tab"

and it's called second position when your feet are shoulder width apart and angled 45 degrees

  • This isn't a good video. There's a way to make it a lot easier. Like seriously, this is bad. She shouldn't have a flag at all.

  • Wth "the front the top"??? It's called the tape. Or 1.

  • That's actually how I learned to stop.

  • no sweety im a colorgaurd for south shore drill team and apart of the paul haul warroiors and no u are not correct u almost got it tho

  • Her counts are way messed up. Evens are up, odds are down. Feet in a strong second with body projecting upward. When you grab down, she should have said thumbs down. Again on the up, only thumbs up. And it's called a DROP STOP! Get it right!

  • Yea we call it tap and bottom stopper in my independent guard and we stand in open second. Evens are up and odds down

  • we were taught to do it like snaps when you stop our way is way better

  • Same.

  • The flag is suppose to be splitting your body and in my guard when we do drop spins we are suppose to be in second position and projesting our bodies up and i think the was she did it was sloppy and it looked like she was holding the fkag at an angle and she was counting wrong because in LMHS guard we are suppose to have odd numbers when you go down and even when you come up. Not whatever that hell she was doing

  • that is the same at my school

  • @poppuyyh she was counting how many drop spins she was doing not doing counts

  • @poppuyyh she could have different technique though. different schools and guards have different technique.

  • @poppuyyh Just because she is doing it differently than you doesn't mean she is wrong. She goes to a different school and was taught different technique. Period. I'm surprised by your attitude and if you were my student I would remove you from the program for using demeaning language towards a peer. You need to build each other up and not tear each other down.

  • @poppuyyh she was just trying to help amateurs.... that was just rude

  • @poppuyyh shes holding the flag wroung when she stops n im sorry to n e one who may see tjis but i agree wit poppuyyh.

  • That's not completely true. Her form is all out of whack. It looks sloppy to stand shoulder-width apart. You should start in right shoulder with your left heel in the crook of your right foot.

Her drop spin wasn't bad though.

  • The top of the flag is called the tip, the mid-section is called the Tab, and the bottom is the butt. and the start position is called Right Shoulder. Legs together.

  • i thought it was tab and bottom stopper for everyone, not butt and front.....and at our school, when you get to the first checkpoint (facing down) we could it as 1....so 1 dropspin for her is 2 for us.....

  • everyone learns differently

  • No, when you hit it up, you are supposed to grap in the silk but yeah you are supposed to have your legs together

but....does anyone know how I could contact Brittany Davis anout a colorguard question?

  • when you 'pop it up' you're supposed to grab the tape, not the flag. Have your legs closer together, its more formal looking. But I guess every Guard has their differences.

  • Yeah, that's how I learned it too.

  • i learned this yesterday

my coach said that when the silk is down thumbs are down and when silk is up thumbs are up

but there are probably other ways i guess idk

  • That's how our guard does it too

  • I think different coaches teach different ways to stop the flag after a drop spin. I know the few coaches i've had have always told me to catch it in the silk, but maybe some others teach a different way???

  • Okay so i know how to do it but i was jw.. when you catch it and stop it the last time ,do your hands and thumbs go up or down?

  • both of ur thumbs are up and your left hand is in the silk and your right hand is at the tab or where the pole and the flag meet.

  • I'm trying to write a tryout routine and i was wondering if you know any good tyrout moves for color guard besides just basics

  • maybe you should add in some double tosses and money spins???

  • Yeah, I did end up adding in a pop toss and a money hand thumb flip. It all worked out pretty good. Thanks for the advice. ^_^

  • lighting is bad. but okay

  • I thought you grab where the falg and the tape meeet....

  • Ah, I'm not sure what all this not grabbing in the silk business is. I'm not saying this is a good tutorial, but almost all my instructors say to grab in the silk at the seam to prevent it from rolling... At like, drum corps level.

  • Nevermind, I'm stupid, I understand now

  • you should grab it jusst at the sem of the flag and tape!

  • Yah never supposed to grab in the silk. and watch your elbows. They should be dropped as much as possible so when you do spins whether drop or peggy you don't look like a chicken trying to fly away.

  • Look, people. A drop spin is a drop spin. Leave her alone!

  • Seriously StarFire! That is like the number one rule, NEVER GRAB THE SILK! This is kinda a bad tutorial, it has the right motions, but wrong hand placements and kinda slow.

  • The base of the flag. The tape right under it and u spin it down a little under that but tou never grab the flag. In anything.

  • She's totally doing ti kinda wrong. The hand placements are correct but YOU NEVEER GRAB THE SILK! and also she does it too slow.

  • Okay, so if you don't grab the silk to stop, then what part of the pole to do grab to stop the drop spin?

  • When stopping the spin you're supposed to bring your left hand and flag up to put you at Left shoulder arms.

  • Yep, we call those drop spins too. but i cant get my guard to all do their drop spins the same way, because we try to be comfortable while were doing it. we can still do them on the same time/beat, but our hands are positioned differently.

  • ahh singles thats what we call them

  • for real?

    Like, really?
