  • I agree, this song wasn't a BIG hit, but it was catchy. I think quite a few people who did time remember this tune.

  • I remember and dnt knw hw the chorus was catchy

  • He was the keyboard player from RAINBOW, featuring singer RONNIE JAMES DIO, guitarist RIICHIE BLACKMORE, and drummer COZY POWELL. I think he also played with BLACK SABBATH in the early 70s and OZZY OSBOURNE in the 80s

  • @psychodelicrock12 Well You Got the Part About the Rainbow right, But Theres So Much More...and with a Name Like psychodelicrock You Should Know of His Years as A Solo Artist, and most recently with a Band called EBC Roxx, German female vocalist, Ela, JR Blackmore and TC...Good Driving Rock as Well as Zed Yago German metal band on Keys and Vocals...Check this shit out, some good Rock since Rainbow dude:)

  • Sounds kinda like The Hooters

  • great tune

  • still brings back memories of coming home from the Gulf in 96, somehow just stikes a chord

  • Ya know how sometimes people hear the wrong words to a song? For a long time,I thought he was singing It's a fine, fine day for Avery Union.I didn't know who that was,but I figured he was having a good day. That's up until I saw the video. Then I realized he wasn't having such a fine day afterall. Thanks Pink for sharing this one with us.I still love this song.Have ever since it came out all those years ago.

  • I agree... Tony was very much under rated.... I love his songs and this one specially.

  • man i really really wish i was born in the 60s. not fair to all u guys that were alive in the 80s. you guys are soo lucky

  • great song

  • Shame that Tony had to go to Germany to be a star. He hit #22 in Billboard, 5-5-84. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx!

  • Classic!!

  • That's why you don't mess with the mob

  • I do remember this song from 1984. It wasn't a very big hit, as I recal, .. but it really stuck out ( and I think thats why I've rememberd it since ). It was so unlike just about any other music of THAT year ( as that was when ohhh Michael Jackson, Madona, Huey Lewis, Duran Duran, Sting, Def Lepard, .. et all were the big popular acts in music ). I even recal thinking that it had to be at least a couple years older than that .

  • @Skulldini What your remembering is his first solo album which had the hits 'I Wont Be Home Tonight' and 'West Coast Summer Nights' Both videos here at the official tube site...if your interested in looking into more ot TC's music including this cd, his official website is truebeliever.de

  • TONY CAREY Live am 06.08.2011 im Ratskeller Hainichen; limitiertes Kartenkontingent; Ticketvorverkauf über 037207-51990

  • a Killer song from former Rainbow keyboardist.

  • Poor uncle Sonny...all those years playing 'hide the cellmate salami'...then he gets whacked by an unseen gunman. Rat bastards could have had the decency to pop him face to face.

  • @pippigladstone scrotumless? I saw the stuff on your page...talk about scrotumless you sir are scrotumless

  • @pippigladstone Yeah it is, and yeah he has an incredible career with almost if not 40 cds released, just worked and toured playing keyboards with Zed Yago, metal band out of germany, before becoming ill he had just started 'Over the Rainbow' and was touring with them. His fans are from around the world in every corner. Dont judge him on a song dude, like his 3 hit song....theres lots of tony carey to listen to and his planet p project all new for people yourself. Check out site

  • this cant be the same tony carey, the electro synth guy.

  • Love the songs of the 80's. What makes this one stand out??? It's one of those that u DO really listen to the words.. This song.. GREAT GREAT.. And brings back Great memories.... Wow, and where did the time go... Well, Time for a reunion ! ! !

  • AH the 80s coke meth and lots of sweet pussy those were the fine days

  • @GingerAmberLynn This is a very old and battered version had around for awhile, i have put an actual colour one up, but if your referring to the song being awful, why did you watch and listen..you wouldnt have listened unless you knew who he was haha, check for other also under Pinkwrld ciao

  • I only recently discovered Tony Carey, with the junk that is being spewed out nowadays i had to go back in time to find "real" music. Loving his music!

  • was uncle sonny an irish or italian wiseguy?

  • I used to confuse him with a native american indian flutist.I was thinking that must have switched from rock to native american music. He does look native with that long hair. Now that i look at him again he looks more like a young david gilmour.I was thinking he was someone else because i hadnt seen this video since 1984.just recently saw it again when i got into ytb. back in 2007.Ytb. was hard to watch b4 2007 because my old computr was to slow and i woulnt match the speed of adobe flash.

  • Thanks for the memories

  • Good song! shouldve done better than #22.

  • A fine, fine dude singing a fine, fine song..always loved this one, been a long time since I've heard it...thanks.

  • Welcome Back:)

    Pinkwrld

  • @pinkwrld THANKS for the memories

  • @sw1pe you eloquently described the same exact feeling I had when I stumbled across this tune a few days ago. Mentally thinking, "oh yeah, now I remember this from early MTV" probably never would have stumbled across this gem again but for my searching youtube for deep purple tunes, which led to rainbow tunes which reminded me of Tony playing keys for them early on, which reminded me of planet p, why me which led me here. Awesome.

  • Well,at least it started out a fine, fine,day.Then it kinda turned to crap.Lead poisoning.What a bitch.R.I.P.

  • Now I remember where I got the "pull a Houdini" phrase from. Thanks Tony.

  • A bright light in the darkness of the 80s. Thank you Tony Carey.

  • Weird how this, which stands as one of the heaviest nostalgia-inducing head-swimming early MTV memories for me, has fallen through the cracks. Or perhaps the very fact that it fell through the cracks is why it is so nostalgia-inducing in the first place. :-D You never hear it unless you look for it, and every time you look for it and find it you're pleased you did. :-)))))

  • I guess that could be Phil Collins as the thug in the sunglasses , kinda looks like him. Either way, it's one of my fave TC songs. Highly underrated doesn't even come close to his being undervalued by the ignorant. Sorry, it's ok that TC isn't every music fan's cup of tea. Don' mean to be judgemental, after all I hate Toby Keith.

  • Tony Carey is a musical genuis, who has worked in some many different types of styles. This song is a classic pop song that tells a story and gets you involved.

  • Seen him at a Jamm in '83 or '84...was excellent. If i remember right, Greg Allman was there too. and others. What a show

  • Manzo Tony is not WAS hahaha, always has been, still is with 34 albums under his belt, producing artists such as Joe Cocker, John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers - Chicago Line...David Knophler and so many more, head to Tony/Planet P Project official website at truebeliever.de

    ciao

    Pinkwrld

  • @pinkwrld

  • Tony had much more talent than many of those in the eighties. Sadly, he didn't have the image that lesser talents had. The guy was just a great songwriter.

  • Such a great song and criminally underrated

  • I had forgotten about this song ti I heard it today on KSHE95 in St. Louis. Love it!!!

  • An outstanding song from a very distinct voice.

  • Damn. Remember when people made MUSIC instead of the crud they have out now?

  • This song used to make me cry.

  • If you said now "keep that meter runnin' till the 20 dollar mark" these days, you'd get taken from where you got in the cab to 5 feet down the road to the hot dog cart lol.

Cameo by Phill Collins as the hit man.

  • Who's the mental midget who gave this a thumbs down? Jagg off dickweed!

  • @ThickAzABrick ROCK ON DUDE!!!!!!

    Pinkwrld

  • @ThickAzABrick f this d bag. thats the whole of it

  • @ThickAzABrick I guess these dislikes, aren't having a fine fine day.To bad for them, cause the rest of us are.Every Day above ground is a fine fine day. Some are just better then others.

  • Hi my friend Pinkwrld here, Tony Carey/Planet P Project site here on Youtube as well as official on myspace. Tony has never stopped :) he has released 32 cds/lps has produced for joe cocker, john mayel etc, close to 100, and some remixs bands want him to help with. So he didnt go away he just got so much better, go to his official website, i cant type in here, seems to get error, go to tube and his website is there, the beginning of url is truebeliever you will be amazed

    Pinkwwrld

  • Remember Planet P-Project-didn't6 like them too much. This song broke Tony out, only later to put out Blue Highway...which used that same riff from fine fine day, just a little different in at least half the CD-genius.What a story-teller/songwriter/musician!!!!!!! Don't know what ever happened to him,but I still have his songs on my mp3 at the gym.

  • @miker641 TC is still touring N.Europe.

  • So few people I've known remember this song, and that's just sad. One of the very best from that era, for sure, and one of my favorite songs of all time.

  • i luv this song

  • Stumbled onto this video--A GREAT song from the 80s that reminded me of a neighbor that was "connecred.Sadly I can't seem to buy it onITunes...

  • Not quite Yaywhe, Tony Carey is Planet P Project, and if you have a copy of Pink World you will notice, he wrote, produced and performed all instruments, check out his website, its posted on my tube page

    Pinkwrld

  • I LUV THIS SONG!! Wuz this the same guy who produced the brilliant Planet P? I also bought Planet P Project "Pink World" on Vinyl ages ago (a double album, gate fold cover, remember gate fold albums) But that work was asi-asi.

  • HIt #1 rock, #22 pop in Billboard. God bless!

  • damn but I loved this song and video....one of the best of the 80's

  • @carl22069

I grew up in Baltimore, and this came out on the rock stations in the Springtime of 1983. About the same time, the Planet P project was introduced...'Power Tools', 'Static ( on the radio )', 'First Day of Summer'.....great stuff, take care bud.

  • This video reminds me of my childhood growing up. People getting murdered all the time and you never knew where the body would end up.

  • I had this album, I lost it with other lp's during a move, he had a lot of good songs on his album, including this.

  • My favorite lyric is .. " but he pulled that old Hudini, like we always knew he would ! ".

  • I remember this song/video,.. haven't seen or heard it for a long time though. I always thought it was Meatloaf.

  • Thanks for posting this video. I seen this video on MTV when I was a kid but had forgotten who performed it and finally found it.

  • I think this is one of the best story songs/videos of the 80's.

  • Well it was a fine, fine day.Right up untill the bad guys showed up.Then it just turned out to be a not so fine day. What a bummer.

  • My God! I forgot about this song! It's such a good one, too! I loved Planet P when I was a teenager and I love his solo work, too.

  • Great song, love the b3 organ,(I guess that is Tony on key boards.)

  • Excellentexcellentexcellentexcellent!!!!!!!!

  • Here's your laugh for today. The first time I heard this song,I must have been really stoned.I thought they were saying It's a fine fine day for Avery Union.Didn't know who he was,but figured he must be having a great day.

  • LMAO, me too!! But I assumed it was a song about a guy named Avery, jr. lol

  • πολυ ομορφη μουσικη!!!! μπραβο*****5

    Friendly greetings,

    Michael

  • this is a great music video with a fine touchig story to it

  • OMG I cant believe this song is posted..,thank you so very much.I love this song and Tony Carey!

  • great song -- music, vocals, lyrics/story, chorus, etc. ! A classic from the early

80's that stood the test of time. Don't make 'em like this much anymore. Think I'll send this to my teenagers and show em what real music is! I keep hoping they'll figure out the rap and pop today is a bunch of sh*t!

  • Who played this song originaly, I`ve got on a tap that is nearly 30 years old, Could it be Rory Galagher?

  • Hi my friend,

The song was written and performed by only this artist, Tony Carey released with radio success, also from this cd, The First Day of Summer. In a row, Carey released "I Wont Be Home Tonight in 82, then Planet P Project in 1983, Some Touch City in 84, Planet P project - Pink World in 84 as well. Then came Blue Highway, these have been re-mastered re-released. Check out my page dude, for more..not Rory this time

    Pinkwrld

In Fact the new PPP cd will be rel. Dec.14

    Chow man

    Pinkwrld

  • Tony Carey is the man! People say I'm a dinosaur livin' in the 80's! That's OK, the dinosaurs had a good run on earth! Rock on!

  • Heard this on the radio last wk at the beach, been searching ever since, thx pink, i knew it sounded familiar, heard him in Charlotte, NC a mill. yrs ago when i was a mom of 2 and went wild (back then thought i was old going to rock concert), knew the words by heart, we all stood up in the bleachers and sang that song, amazing. Luv that long hair :)

  • I haven't heard this for over 20 years. I never knew who sang it

  • masterpiece!!!!!

  • thanks mom and dad cuz u guys raised me listening to guys like this just wish i could find a sterio that could play this one loud enough

  • Damn!

Tell me there were even 3 better songs from the 80's than this masterpiece. Thank you, yet again, Ritchie Blackmore for another discovery of pure musical talent. I could listen to this song forever.

Gonna teach my Grandsons about REAL music- not as bad place to start.

  • Oh hey man,,,Whatever you do dont say Ritchie discovered him...not too many of Ritchies Mates hes played with enjoy his company, yes DP too. believe his son actually asked the ole man (Ritchie) if he could play with Over the Rainbow, then Ritchie says they are a good guys. Tony was young when he started playing, but not with Rainbow first. Tony is one of those people that can play every instrument.believe it. So once his live gigs with them, on to another sound. Check out page Dude!

    Pinkwrld

  • @ThickAzABrick Right on, Dude. I have 2 sons. One 30 and 1 is 9 and they both LOVE music , so I respect the idea of passing the torch to the next and next generations. It's all good, as the young folks say !!!

  • @keeper275 Well And remember our parents hated our music... :-)

  • This song is one of his best for sure

  • they no longer write music with this much conviction, soul and just good vibe music like this. i love old 80's music

  • @TNkenny The hip hop grip on the LA music scene just won't produce or market real music!

  • @kev6kev9 oh man ... that hiphopcrap is not a music, it's just a way of self expression from some silly people without musical talent and working ability. Real music is made by talented musicians, it's never made by hiphopfreaks.

I use to listen Tony Carey's music and this song is big one! Thanks for posting it here!

  • @TNkenny this is scrotumless 80s bullshit. it sucked back then it still sucks.

  • @pippigladstone Well, it doesn't have quite the same degree of testosterone as 'Full House, I'll admit.

  • love this song

  • Holy crap! Phil Collins at 3:50!!! i KNEW he was in the mob! (jk) GREAT SONG!! One of my all-time favorites. BTW - boy the emergency response at the end was REMARKABLE!!! ;-)

  • I know i think thats jesus of nazereth ambulance service

  • Love this song.Takes me back......

  • Is this the same Tony Carey, former member of "Blackmore's Rainbow" that collaborated on one of the greatest epic hard rock songs of the late 70s called "Stargazer" ?

  • sure is :)

  • Comment removed

  • Yes my friend, this is Tony Carey, the original keyboardist with Rainbow (not Blackmores Rainbow) Rainbow Rising, Tarot Woman, Stargazer, Long Live Rock and Roll,

Now on tour again with former members of rainbow over the years, calling themselves Over the Rainbow, includes Joe Lynn Turner on Vocals, Greg Smith on Bass, Bobby Rondenelli on drums, and Tony on keyboards, and there had to be a blackmore in it, Ritchies son JR takes the guitar, rave reviews, just finished russia on to japan in days

  • well, gratz on this one. I guess if you are considered a one hit wonder (as some have labeled this song besides having a catalog as large as yours) it would be worthy as this is a great song. I think (and this imho) a little too much on instruments. I think keyboard and your voice would have been more riveting. But the story is the thing. Good luck and peace out.

  • Comment removed

  • wow...i had heard he died a few years a go...ok

  • @darksouldealer no, tc is still alive.

  • @AgentScooterX You bet it is. TC went on to have hits like : Vigilante, Won't be home tonight, and Why me(Planet P). Loved the hell out this guys music !!!

  • Wish I could give you some good news but no, thats the only video ever released. I have most of the entire collection on here, some like Planet p Project's Static are two long. But no, have a fine fine day Madame:)

    (Videos Compliments of Tony Carey)

  • i remember when this song came out - but i heard it set against a completely different video. i remember the video as involving a native american/hispanic family reuniting. in color (not black and white as is this vid). can anyone help me out here? i'd love to see that version again.

  • Very early MTV

  • I love this song,, my dad died in 1981 and his brother was in prison when this came out

  • When I was a teenager, my sister and I used to try to keep our eyes open to watch Night Tracks on TBS. This song was heavily featured. I just heard it again for the first time in years and had to look it up here. Thanks for posing this gem.

Hey 80's Heads....don't forget "You Ain't Worth The Salt In My Tears". Another one ya never hear!

  • Martin Briley! :)

  • @ClassicMusicVids Who did "You ain't worth... ?

  • What a great song!!! I almost completely forgot about it! This guy has such a great voice!!! I'm surprised he hasn't been more successful in his career. I loved this song when they used to play it on MTV! They played it constantly!!! Wow, watching this is just like being in a time machine. It really does take me back to a different time and place.

  • i couldn't agree more !! i heard snippets at the dentist today over the drill.

i had to hear it again !!

  • I haven't heard it since I heard it once on MTV in the early 80s--but I never forgot it!

  • Damn! What memories this song brings to mind. An underated artist, great song, great song-writer, great performer. Thanks for posting.

  • I can't believe it's been almost 25 yrs for this song. It makes me feel so old now. Tony had great vocals, I wish he had produced more hits. I also really wish I still had the album the song was on. Any how... great song and video. Thanks for helping me reclaim some of my youth from the mid '80s.

  • Go to your inbox for email address.

  • yep - an interesting period in the 80's pop curve.

  • I love this video and always loved the song.

  • I played this song a lot when I got out.

  • This was first video I actually liked.

  • i have been trying to find this song for a least five years. i couldn't remember the name of it or who sung it either. it fits to my youth like a sound track to a classic movie. this belongs to a part of my youth as much as "DON'T YOU FORGET ABOUT ME" belongs to the "breakfast club" or like "SHE'S LIKE THE WIND" to "dirty dancing" thanks for bringing back some awesome memories

    peace: sean

  • I could not be happier with this video. The song brings back memories, too. Weird ones, stealing beer, and looking for that first giggle stick. Hmm...

  • Great song with Great memories, thanks!

  • Love this song. Its one of those songs u hear once when your 13 and 30 years later you still sing it in your head. Def. one my favs.

    U rock Tony!

  • You also love Battlestar Galactica, fracken right, a great great song of the 80's that always bring back great memories of that time of our lives.
