  • so much spank.

  • can you tune this on e to e tuning standard? or will the tension be too low?

  • @IamForeverChanging

I'm sure that you could play this guitar is open E - no problem.

  • I had a guitar tech put Ernie Ball Regular Slinky .10 strings on mine. He adjusted the truss rod and it sounds FANTASTIC and plays with a super low action and no fret buzz. If you know what you are doing you can get one set up great.

I think the original 1963 Silvertone this is based on did not have truss rod adjustment (Danelectro apparently put two i-beam rods in the necks so they would never bow!) and wooden saddles so you could not adjust intonation either. This has adjustable intonation.

  • @ztimeisnow

    Thanks. Great info. Appreciate it!

  • eBay - craigslist - Guitar Center has the "used gear finder" feature on their website and they have a big advertising push saying that their "30 day money back" policy is much safer than eBay or craigslist.....seach Dano's on the Guitar Center web site.

It's really pretty cool. I bought a USA built Fender Highway 1 Strat for $399 off the Guitar Center web site. It was in Rockford IL - I called the store manager and he shipped it to me. No stress. I'll link in the video that I did with it.

  • I MUST HAVE ONE OF THESE. Except they've been discontinued. Anybody know where I can get one?

  • (-:

  • Pls. dont go....don't go away...

  • hey guys

um this might be a little silly to some of you

but my dani is about a quarter step sharp on every note on the fretboard

and i get it that i gotta take the neck off and all

but im horribly confused as to which way i should turn the truss rod to take the notes down a quarter step

any informed answers would be nice and helpful

  • Great guitar,I have 10s on it and its fine.Had a slight tuning problem so I made a small hole in the guitar body at the base of the neck so I can get to the truss rod without removing the neck then glued the neck in place. The pickups sing.

  • $159 USD would be a great price.

  • Can it handle stuff like Metallica,Megadeth,Alice in Chains,Theory of a Dead Man?

  • I returned this guitar.

When I switched from the factory 9's (strings) to 10's...the slight added tension caused terrible fret buzz. It sounded terrible. The only way to tweak the truss rod on this Dano is to unscrew the neck from the body - tweak - put the neck back on the guitar - check action - repeat as needed.

    I got spooked.

I could have lived with the big volume drop when you go from both pickups to one pickup but the neck removal/truss rod tweak thing was a fatal flaw for me.

  • i need to know if my brother should get one of these from sale for £99 aprrox $159 dollars

  • I have the Dano63, and the truss rod is ridiculous, but that's my only complaint. They changed the bridge, why not make a head-accessible truss rod? I really love the sound with the Rotosound 11 gauge strings, though.

  • Just curious: unless I misunderstood, is this the Danelectro you returned? I was reading your comments on your Eastwood P-90 clip, and you mentioned that, for the first time in 20 years you brought back a guitar, the guitar in question being a Danelectro 63.

  • The double pedal Boss looper is the RC-20XL. The RC-20XL's are $259 USD. I actually got rid of the big RC-20XL and bought the simplified Boss RC-2. The RC-2 costs $189 new. I paid $119 used and minty. Check out the Malden Mozak (it's a Tele-Jazzmaster copy) video that I posted up above. I used the RC-2 on the Mozak video.

    John

  • What is that red, double-pedal stomp box that you are making the loops with? I'd like to get one of those.

  • If the neck is warped or bowed, raising the string height doen't help a lot. The truss rod straightens the neck....once you get it straight you adjust string height with the saddles on the bridge. I don't want to remove necks to straighten them. A warped neck with super high strings (to remove buzzing) is misery. Ouch. Blisters on your blisters. (-:

    John

  • you can mess with the bridge to get the strings higher or lower without messing with the neck

  • Clever demo with tasteful looping.

  • I'm sorry about the SG. Ouch. I actually sold this guitar because I switched the strings from 9's to 10's and the neck developed horrible buzz. You have to remove the entire neck from the Dano to get at the truss rod. I got spooked when changing strings caused the neck to go wonky.

Try a Squier Jagmaster. Duncan Design Humbuckers, Vintage toner on the neck and head stock, tremolo bar....cool guitar for $249. I have a Jagmaster....love it.

    John

  • Seeing as I just fucking broke my overpriced SG, I'm gonna get one of these. I'll never buy another expensive guitar again. I have horrible luck and everything I own seems to get broken somehow.

  • Nice little improv!!!

  • I know I know....sorry about the feet. Have you noticed all the bare feet that stick into ebay pictures? I just bought a ski boot bag on ebay and every picture of the ski boot bag on the carpet had the guys big old toes sticking in the photo frame.

I paid him and asked for the bag only.....keep the toes.

    (-:

  • nice feet : )

  • Sorry...PEACH and keen green are very cool.

  • The peack and keen green are very cool.

  • I just bought one of these in peach and its fucking amazing

no video can catch the sound of this guitar but nice vid anyways.

  • That's a tough question. They are both "ok". If you wanted a single coil sound I would buy the Dano. If you wanted a humbucker sound I would buy the Epi. The fret work and the tuners on the Dano might be better than those on a low end Epi. It's like comparing a Tele to Les Paul, they are not at all the same. A friend of mine just bought an Epi LP II for his son and his son is really enjoying the Epi. I just bought a Vintage Modified Squier for my son. I like Squiers at $250 or so.

  • hmm doesnt really answer my question >.> but thanks for the effort...

just deciding on my first guitar... right now i'm down to this or the Epi Les Paul special 2

    thx for your help

  • This is pretty late considering you posted two weeks ago but I would strongly suggest going to the nearest music shop and trying them both. That will answer everything on it's own.

  • heres a question...

would u recommend this over an Epiphone les paul special 2?

  • YES! The Les Paul Specials suck, they can not hold a tune to save their lives even if they are in perfect conditions and the perfect age of strings. Just trust me.

  • The Les Paul Special is better to learn guitar on. It's more of a "normal" guitar.

The Danelectro's are an acquired taste. I mean, they're not even made of wood, but masonite.

However, if you know how to play guitar reasonably well and want to expand your collection... the Danelectro wins out right. It's a more exciting guitar. The LP Special is a good guitar in a sense, but a parody of the original design: it's a bolt-on.

  • id get a $250 squier strat the sound the best for the money

  • Thanks! The only thing that spooked me was a bit of fret buzz that developed when I restrung with 10's. To tweak the truss rod you have to remove the neck from the body. You cannot get at the truss rod at the head stock. It's a neat guitar but the lack of truss rod access made me return the guitar. I bought an Eastwood P-90 Special. I don't want to discourage anyone else.....I just worry about every little thing. I did a video with the Eastwood and the sound came out poorly. John

  • Great video. I don't think the bridge has quite enough bite for me. I'm goin' for a Jack White sound.

  • That is sweet. I'm hoping to buy one soon.

  • also, good demo man.

noticed the VOX amp in the background too, i am a long time VOX user. Just saying.

but thanks man, you've convinced me to order this guitar, =) cheers and happy playing.

  • I want an aqua one so badly

  • I went into a shop that had every color....I assumed that I would buy basic black. The black smudges easily. I liked the gold, burst...I loved the keen green but couldn't bring myselg to choose it.

If you're gonna get an unusual guitar....get an UNUSUAL guitar.

  • Thanks I am sold gonna get one. Just have to pick color

  • Thanks for the demo -- so nice it even plays itself! LOL.
