You should try a grout saw. It's got a 'serrated' carbide edge on it and it's at an angle to the handle so it makes grout removal very easy and it rips right through the old grout, letting you get down enough so the new grout has a better seat and it will last longer. You can also use a grout colorant when done, which changes the color and also seals, so you can make all the grout in the shower match perfectly.
@jhereg30 Those are some great suggestions. I will try that for next time. I could see if I needed to remove lots of grout, I then should use the carbide edge tool. I didn't have one at the time & I was only removing a small amount of grout so I "joeguyvered" it. The carbide edge tool would work really well if you were going to re-color your grout or redo some tired grout. Thanks for all your comments & suggestions. Joe :0
If you ever get the chance. You should make a video on grout colorant. XD

@darktard I have one video on tips on how to match an existing grout color, but that's about it, on the subject. Thanks for your suggestion. Joe :0
