@tinytimcavey Actually, Stalin had put the USSR on a path to full mobilization years ahead of Germany. Stalin's grand plan was to wait until the European powers had spent most of their strength fighting each other, then sweep in with hundreds of divisions and crush them all. The Soviets were in the process of preparing to move their troops up for the attack when Hitler preempted them, because it was his only chance against their superior numbers. Read "The Chief Culprit" for ample documentation.

This would occur around 1980 and be a war between Germany and Britain against the United States. @burgersforreal If you study national socialism as an ideology you understand that he of course wanted war. National socialism is about expansionism, expanding the area for Nordic/German people to live in. It requires war.
However what you can say to his defence is that a lot of other countries wanted war with Germany as well. Britain and France are good examples. The USSR was about to start a war against Germany. That is why Hitler made the decision to suprise them with Operation Barbarossa.

If he foresaw a conflict with the united States, why did he hesitate to declare war on them after America had basically lied that they were "Neutral?" He went to war with the Soviet for two reasons. 1. The Soviets had 23 divisions in Poland and were basically ready to attack Germany, and 2. Because Molotove had come to Germany and threatened Germany and its allies. He did not want conflict but the allies pushed it.

He didn't want a war with the US at that time. That is why he didn't declare war on them. Eventually he would have attacked them for ideological purposes just like the Soviets (lebensraum, anti-capitalism, anti-communism etc). The only ones he didn't ever intend to fight were the English.

And what about accidents? Average airborne casualties in a night op could be upwards of 30% or more! Gliders flipping over, etc. 7,000 guys take over 30 million????

And another thing, with the British radar and Ob. Corps, those transports would have been intercepted and DESTROYED at night AND day, plus AA guns. Britain's spine was NOT broken. You are just wallowing in historical myth - hook, line and sinker.

Less than 7000 weenies running around getting blasted by British tanks, artillery, and RAF fighters and bombers? And no matter what Hitler did, SOME troops (150,000+) would have escaped at Dunkirk. The Luftwaffe threw all it could at it.

If I remember correctly, Hitler wanted some return of the German Danzig area which was German and lost through the Versailles Treaty idiocy.. There had been forced marches of thousands of German civlians to expell the Germans from those area. Many thousands of Germans died from exposure and anti-German reprisal murders. To halt the spread of the Bolsheviks, Hitler had to move on Poland..some Poles were happy for Germany to march in some were not.. depends on whether they were Jewish Bolsheviks or non-Jewish Poles. Not to mention that in 1939 Stalin signed the Non-Aggression Pact with Hitler in order to purposely carve up Poland. Let's not forget that the USSR invaded Poland on September 17. Britain and France allowed Germany to take and hold land like Austria, and Sudetenland, he pushed his luck with Poland. He had also allied himself with other evil men such as Mussolini, and countries like Japan who were attacking and killing Chinese before 1939. Britain and France really did not want a war they lost to many men in the First World War, and the horror haunted them, they were financially broke, only Churchill wanted war with Germany because he saw the threat long-term. Britain may been involved in the cause of the first world war in some way but there were others with more blame then Britain, Britain did not declare war until Germany attacked Neutral Belgium which they had an agreement with.

You never really hear how England was partly responsible for WW1 which was a major cause of WW2. 2 times in 25yrs England declared war on Germany. In WW2, England declared war on Germany because Germany ALONG with USSR invaded Poland. Why not declare war on USSR also? Either way I think WW2 was bound to happen. It's just a lot of people don't really know that technically England declared war 1st, twice, so in a way, they can be said to have started WW2. History, gotta love it.

The clue to the answer is in Churchill’s response “Britain will fight on until all the already conquered European countries are free”. Please note, ‘the already conquered’ bit. What did Hitler expect? He was under the illusion than his racist ideology would appeal to the British. He couldn’t believe that it went down like a lead balloon. Two days before making a peace offering to Britain, Hitler gave war directives explaining how operation sea lion could only commence once Germany had air superiority over the coast. The importantce of air support was learnt in Norway, Hitler knew it's importance, and wanted to neutralise the threat in the west, not concur it. Stalin's grand plan was to wait until the European powers had spent most of their strength fighting each other, then sweep in with hundreds of divisions and crush them all. The Soviets were in the process of preparing to move their troops up for the attack when Hitler preempted them, because it was his only chance against their superior numbers. Read "The Chief Culprit" for ample documentation.

However what you can say to his defence is that a lot of other countries wanted war with Germany as well. Britain and France are good examples. The USSR was about to start a war against Germany. That is why Hitler made the decision to suprise them with Operation Barbarossa.

He went to war with the Soviet for two reasons. 1. The Soviets had 23 divisions in Poland and were basically ready to attack Germany, and 2. Because Molotove had come to Germany and threatened Germany and its allies. He did not want conflict but the allies pushed it.

He didn't want a war with the US at that time. That is why he didn't declare war on them. Eventually he would have attacked them for ideological purposes just like the Soviets (lebensraum, anti-capitalism, anti-communism etc). The only ones he didn't ever intend to fight were the English.

And what about accidents? Average airborne casualties in a night op could be upwards of 30% or more! Gliders flipping over, etc. 7,000 guys take over 30 million????

Less than 7000 weenies running around getting blasted by British tanks, artillery, and RAF fighters and bombers? The British Army was intact on Britain itself - understrength, yes, but NOT with a "broken back". And the RAF and Royal Navy were FINE.
And no matter what Hitler did, SOME troops (150,000+) would have escaped at Dunkirk. The Luftwaffe threw all it could at it.

England was just the opposite. 500,000 troops, 400+ tanks, and artillery against the same force that almost LOST against just 2% of that strength!
AND - no air superiority. Not even close. The Germans would have been torn to shreds.

Nor did he have ASW capability, as he lost almost all of his destroyers in Norway. Germany's cheesey barges would have been sitting ducks for the RAF and British submarines, let alone the mighty Royal Navy.
Not even the German battleships Tirpitz and Bismarck were completed in 1940.

I have relatives who lived during the occupation who have better things to say about the Germans than their American and British rescuers. If you read Mein Kampf, Hitler writes that he wanted an alliance with Britain against the Communists. Why would he mistreat the very people he wanted to ally with?

If I remember correctly, Hitler wanted some return of the German Danzig area which was German and lost through the Versailles Treaty idiocy.. There had been forced marches of thousands of German civlians to expell the Germans from those area. Many thousands of Germans died from exposure and anti-German reprisal murders. This was not covered by most media outside of Germany such as USA.

the Germans and the Brits should've come to an agreement--the results of WW2 were disastrous for both countries--britain was forced into near bankruptcy; and lost her Empire--germany lost many many good men, and of course suffered tremendous damage to her territory; and was divided into two. If Britain and Germany had an agreement, they could've worked together to wipe out Soviet communism--in which case USA would've never entered the war

Britain and France allowed Germany to take and hold land like Austria, and Sudetenland, he pushed his luck with Poland. He had also allied himself with other evil men such as Mussolini, and countries like Japan who were attacking and killing Chinese before 1939. Events which started world war two had started way before 1939. And Hitler is one of the most evil men who ever lived, yes there have been others but hes just pure hate.

Also just so you know, China was originally allied with Hitler (the reason why America, Briton, and France never gave direct support to china), and he intended to bring about the collapse of the Japanese. Hitler did not invade Britain, or spared it because he wanted its navy the worlds largest at that time for his use or as an ally, He wanted Britain to help Germany and had obsession with its Navy living in a fantasy of Britain and Germany allied and thought taking away some of its power to create that dream, but that would have meant throwing away the morals and ethics of human beings. Britain and France really did not want a war they lost to many men in the First World War, and the horror haunted them, they were financially broke, only Churchill wanted war with Germany because he saw the threat long-term. Britain may been involved in the cause of the first world war in some way but there were others with more blame then Britain, Britain did not declare war until Germany attacked Neutral Belgium which they had an agreement with.

You never really hear how England was partly responsible for WW1 which was a major cause of WW2. 2 times in 25yrs England declared war on Germany. In WW2, England declared war on Germany because Germany ALONG with USSR invaded Poland. Why not declare war on USSR also? Either way I think WW2 was bound to happen. It's just a lot of people don't really know that technically England declared war 1st, twice, so in a way, they can be said to have started WW2. History, gotta love it.
