Women tend to live longer than males and due to war, famine and disasters which lower the male population. 3 to 1 in the US; 8 to 1 in the UK and in some places 13 to 1 but in ancient times it was average an 30 to 1. How were women supposed to survive? The lucky ones were married off and the earlier the better to insure survival.
