@thephilchannel It does to an extent but 440 stainless with a good heat treat will be able to become razor sharp. It will be harder than other steels but it is possible for sure. It is hard at first to get knives razor sharp. I would suggest getting a harbor freight belt sander which costs 40 dollars and then buy a leather belt for it which costs like 12 dollars. Then you will have a wonderful sharpening system for a little over fifty dollars. I have another video on it.
@Bryonashbrook3 ya man you can make it sharp I would think. They may not be made of very good steel but you can at least get it somewhat sharper. You may want to use a belt sander to make it go faster if they are really dull. I have another video on that if you are interested.
@lurtz8083 you can! thats the great part. I never thought I could but with a little practice its not that hard. It is so much fun to have sharp knives, its a great skill to learn.
@stroscar does it work on any knives? some of mine is more like swords xD like bigg stuff hate small knives i just lose them so i never but them if blade is less then 30cm long.
I got my pen knife after sharpening it in a stone, and used my jeans as a sharpening leather. Took a few hours to do but its the sharpest knife I've ever seen. Just touch a edge of a sheet of paper and it slices it, you can't even feel it going in the paper. The trouble is you try to cut something with it and it blunts straight away, bit of a bummer in that respect.
When the event happens, and civilisation collapses, your average joe public will be out there building shelters, finding food and supporting their families. 'The survival experts will be shaving their arms.
Nice vid but I would like to point out that a razor sharp knife is great but in most real world applications will dull very fast. The reason being is that the angle that both sides of the blade creates is very acute and very susceptible to edge "roll over". this happens when the edge is so thin and sharp that any contact with a material will bend the edge over, creating a very dull blade very fast. A slightly wider angle, while not hair shaving sharp, will stay as sharp for longer.
@mcpheonixx This is actually not true you can have a very sharp knife and still have a steep grind. This is especially true with a blade like the fallkniven because its convex edge. A convex edge is shaped like the tip of a bullet, it has lots of steel behind the edge, It will not cut through wood as well as say a scandi grind, but the edge lasts forever. When i am sharpening in this video all I am doing is honing the micro bevel on the convex grind, it does not decrease edge life at all.
@mcpheonixx That makes no sense. If having a dull knife is so great, then having a sharp one MUST be better. Because it will become dull eventually. But at least it was sharp once.
I have seen people in videos sharpening using method in this vid, and dragging the blade edge away from the stone; I am now more confused as to which way is to do it; and I also have this f1 knife. But I have failed in getting my blade's edge to this shaving sharp, since it came out of the box new. I feel frustrated.
@cooksecurities you can either pull the blade toward you or away from you it doesn't matter it is just whatever works best for you. If stones are not working for you you may want to try to use a leather strop, there are many videos on youtube showing how to use one of these. Or you can watch my other video showing how to use a belt sander to sharpen your knives. You just need to pick one method and practice practice practice, but make sure you use an older knife you don't mind messing up.
@cooksecurities If you pull the blade away from the edge it creates a burr, if you dont remove this it breaks off and leaves you with a blunt edge. A strop can remove this AFTER your knife is sharpened. If you are sharpening the way seen above, you might be having problems getting it this sharp because you don't have the correct angle or you're only sharpening the shoulder not the angle of the edge. Color in the edge with a marker then sharpen your knife and it will show where you are sharpening
haha, i love it when you at a pool or something and you see someone with a patch of arm or leg here missing. You know then that that person has a sharp knife.
waaaaat!! if i didnt see that i would never believe that would be possible. Im looking at a 6k grit stone on amazon will that make it sharp like that?
@PesarTarofi that will get it that sharp for sure, the only problem with those stones is they are harder for me for some reason, I have tried them and they just don't work for me. But they do work and a lot of people swear by them so I guess its just personal preference.
No matter how much I try, I can't get my knife razor sharp! Does it depend on the grade of steel? My knife is 440 stainless.

@stroscar Exactly. So many folks think because you have a "razor sharp" knife you are thinning the edge down to sub 20 degrees.
CStreetButcher 3 months ago
@stroscar mcpheonixx is right, im a carpenter so i have to deal with knifes, blades, chisels, wetstones and grinders everyday.
why do you sharpen your knifes anyway when you claim the edge lasts forever?
deathsmileyinc 2 months ago
@mcpheonixx
not really a carbon knife will hold a edge must longer
01liquidfires 3 months ago
@mcpheonixx You are absolutely wrong. Look on my channel, I got a Strider SMF with a 50 degree edge to whittle hair.
Sharpness has nothing to do with edge angle, it has to do with edge refinement. Cutting performance however IS dependent on edge angle.
