Why they couldn't use phoenix down is because: When charter's HP goes to 0 he don't die, he just get's knocked out. Aeris died his HP goed to 0 permanently. Phoenix down is like smelling salts, it revives usually a person who has been knocked down because it stinks WERY WERY BAD!!

@hadouken56 Being the ff7 nerd i am i just want to point out that in a battle of the game you get ko'd as your "health" is your stamina, so a Phoenix Down only restores lost energy not bring you back from the dead. but that is a very common mistake and as far as my knowledge goes, this only happens in ff7, haven't played any new ones yet... I'm ,sorry by the way, if you've already gotten a message like this and if im just rubbing salt in the wound or anything like that.

If you got into a lot of the back story about Cloud and the Jenova project you'd know that when Hojo experimented on Zack and Cloud in Nibelhiem that they were infused with experimental Jenova cells. Sephiroth being the only perfected success of the Jenova project had powers and influence over those that were also a part of the experiment.

This is the best explanation I can give as to why Cloud didn't react quickly to save Aeris.

Also I like Aeris as a character and felt bad when she died.

Cloud went right after her, but when he got to the alter, Sephiroth manipulated him and almost made Cloud kill her, but Cloud's feelings for her were to strong so he was able to stop himself. So Sephiroth did it himself, and trust me Cloud is affected by her death everyday. In Advent Children he lives in Aeris' church where he met her. He blames himself, but it's really not his fault.

I don't know about you, but that was the saddest moment in all of video game history, to this day for me.
