Johnny got it right with this one, amazing song. I take this opportunity to dedicate this song to my dear friends Rodney, Delaine, and Lake Duree, along with Karl and Keri Richey. Killed in a plane crash in Ruidoso, NM on June 17, 2010. Just after we had celebrated Delaine's 50th birthday. Her thank you card showed up in my mailbox the day after they passed. Delaine was found with her arms wrapped around her son Lake. They were all taken from us far to early. May they rest in peace.
I was fortunate enough to see the original Lynrd Skynrd play in Baltimore. Not long after that the fatal crash happened. I love Lynrd Skynd. I'm so glad that Johnny & the guys are carrying on with the memory of Ronnie & Lynrd Skynrd...
by far the best song johnny ever wrote and sang!it makes me cry every time i listen rip ronnie allen steve cassie leon billy i still remember all of you you're in my heart forever......
Brickyard Road is one of the best albums that very few people have heard of. Besides the title track the rest of the album is also very good. Bought it when it first came out & still listen to it often. Thanks Johnny keep the faith!
@jimbobsmajor I would think that he has come to terms with the loss of Ronnie, maybe singing about him/ to him brings him peace. Ronnie was a wonderful singer and no one can ever do the things he did or take away the things he's done and given us true Skynyrd fans, but I think Johnny has made a fine replacement and he has truly made it his own. I'm proud of him and I think Ronnie would be too. RIP Ronnie! Love you Johnny!
His solo gig didn't work but it should have. Saw him in Philly- there was maybe 20 people. Great songs, great performer. Feel bad for the rest of the band but he had to leave and join Skynyrd. Great career move....blood is much much thicker than water.
very beautiful song!also, look up other brother,Donnies, tribut,"take me back'.Or best freind,C.D,,Doing "reflections"!All from the heart.not a dry eye in the house!!!!!!!
Leon Wilkeson was Ean's best friend, he gave Ean his blessing to carry on when he passed, and Ean accepted that. Ean is just as equal as to what Leon Wilkeson was ever was, and now we have Robert Kearns to carry it on
Lynard Skynard you have made my life better over the years , and now that i think about it, all of AMericas , lives better you touch the hearts of everyone that hears you! GOD bless America and SKYNARD!
that was destiny little bro stepped up and took over, RONNIe is smiling down from heaven about that ever since YA"ll got to know taht, lynard skynard was ahead of thier time, one of most talented rock bands ever, still is, STILL UNBROKEN, lets you know that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for posting this song. I remember hearing it for the first time and thinking it was a great song in the Skynryd vein. Brings back some great memories.
19 Years younger and 40 pounds lighter, regardless Johnny has been a kickass musician, even with his joining Lynyrd Skynyrd, he does his older brother justice.
I'm sitting in bussels rehashing old memories and this song came to mind. I was 17 when it came out. We were just a bunch of kentucky farm boys riding around chasing girls party nearly everynight. Denny would blare this every other song. Crusing around in that old Scout with the top off. Dougie, Louie, Denny, Ira, Greg, David, and myself. Dougie fought in the war, I saw him as a hero and wanted to be like him. I remember enlisting and not telling anybody until the week I left.
Ira and I were in the tabbaco field when I told him. "WTF did you do that for?" Dougie came back after the war only to die in a crash.
Louie was shot and died one night in a fight. He and I had been fishing all day but I left to go see my parents. I should have stayed with him. Ira and I haven't spoke since that that night. but I miss him.
Greg (the oldest of us) tells me that I should come back home. He was never the type to show his feelings he just said, "it would be nice to be able to drive over and visit you if you lived around here your old man ain't getting any younger."
David comes by too everytime i'm in... we have a beer and talk about the old days. This song brings back a flood. I left home and fought for this country in 3 countries. I got out and became an engineer for a big company and move to California. I travel the world and make money that I could only dream of as kid throwing hay and shoveling out barns.
I sit here in Brussels and wonder what I'm doing. I'm tired and ready to come home. I want to fix things with Ira and go fishing with him again. I want to ride around with the boys. Dougie has a niece, Melody. She is all grown up now and she's got a great little family.
It's crazy but all true.
I can't bring back yesterday but I want to at least try for some of it. I'm tired of working myself blind to be something i'm not. it's time to get home.
I remember where I was when news of the plane crash came over the radio. I cried my heart on. I was fortunate to see Johnny years later at Red Rocks. May Ronnie and the boys RIP truly missed
I remember when this song came out,we were teenagers running hard, fast and out of control.I lost so many good friends, and i sit and wonder how i made it?.GOD BLESS ALL!
This is not Lynyrd Skynyrd. It is the Johnny Van Zant Band before Johnny moved on to Lynyrd Skynyrd. My husband was the drummer on this and for Johnny for 16 plus years. He is also Johnny's nephew.
The Keyboard Player is Bobby Capps, he been with 38 Special for many years now, Bobby is also in a side band with Skynyrd Bassist Ean Evans, their project is called Evans Capps
EvansCapps is so amazing!! They're one of my favorite bands :)
Bobby C. looks different, I didn't realize it was him until the end of the video, and even then I wasn't sure...Thanks for clearing up my confusion with your comment!
Oh, I know, it is very sad, but i know that Ean is in a better place now. I did hear from somewhere that Bobby Capps said that the band would still go on, but if that's true, they will never be the same...
Sung with total heart and emotion! RIP to Ronnie and the rest of the now fallen, Steve, Cassie, Alan, Leon & Billy! Long live the Lynyrd Skynyrd Band!!!
This is so beautiful. A great tribute to his brother (and all of the other 'Skynyrd's that we've lost)
Rest in peace!
I hope that when I die, I end up in Rock n' Roll-Heaven with Elvis, Jimi, the guys from Skynyrd, Bon Scott, John Bonham, Keith Moon, Janis Joplin, Dimebag, Randy Rhoads and all the other legends that we've lost!
