  • 0:56 is freaking epic.

  • 2nd movement is absurdly beautiful!

  • 6:35 he reverses the phrase and puts the accent at the end of the beat :P lol

  • I will never forget when i saw him play this. I was simply amazed. I was in the 7th to last row but the sound still carried so beautiful and was loud, never was there a time where he wasn't loud enough that i couldnt hear him or that he didn't have such wonderful tone, grace, and... and... I just cant explain it, it was indescribable. I will most definitly go see him again in concert.

  • Amazing. Just amazing.

  • 7:15 - breathtaking. nuff said.

  • I LOVE どぼこん!

  • @phillyboy50

your opinion matters because... OH wait, it doesn't.

music is interpreted in the eyes of the soloist. I'm sure Dvorak wouldn't want someone to be forced or coerced to play in one style. Anyway, if you're gonna bag on Yo-Yo Ma, instead of leaving negative comments on this video, why not leave compliments on Rostropovich's video?

Plus, what parts are misinterpreted anyways? His song speaks of the hardships that Dvorak had to endure. I thought it was completely fine.

  • dvorak would turn in his grave if he´d hear that, totally misinterpreted. listen to rostropovichs version, he talked personally with dvorak about this piece, his version is simply perfect.

  • damn, there's a like and dislike button but no love one.

  • His emotion is absolutely incredible

    Beautiful, absolutely beautiful

  • grrr!! the audience clapped between the 1st and 2nd movements! =/ awesome performance nonetheless!

  • it means that new person are being attracted. :=)

    "No problem" the applause...

  • @YTM021807 I try to say it too, but when it ALWAYS happens in some places, it doesn't mean very much...

  • @TheTradge

yea its kinda hard not to.. especially after a performance as emotional as that

  • @TheTradge Actually, in the European Tradition, you are allowed to clap in between movements, if you feel the movement was absolutely exceptional.

  • Emmanuel Ax, who is a very highly considered piano soloist, has said that he has no problem with applause between movements if it's deserved. He thinks it should become customary...

  • 1: 47. He winks hahaha <3

  • hahah :D

  • 1:47

  • I've seen him play this live

Our crowd (Minneapolis) clapped only a little between movements - I think most people had a friend to tell them not to do it or stop them quickly. Mostly between movements is time to clear your throat.

Of course, most opening movements don't have an ending like the one on Dvorak's first movement!

  • lol he flips you off at 3:40

  • i like yo-yo ma, but i don't like the conductor

  • he plays so amazing, who couldn't give him an applause? and what's it matter anyway, he's happy, he's nice, so just don't say anything?

  • But, when one plays a concert, applause is proper only after the whole piece you know? That is the convention.

  • maybe so, but you can't stop them, it's not like he forced them to do it..

  • lol 5:38

  • ah that was so fan-freaken-tastic, i needed to stand to watch it!

  • hermosisimo el 2do movimiento.... bueno en fin todo el concierto, simplemente extraordinario!! :)

  • Beautiful! I just love his music, it is so beautiful, and he has so much passion, and he puts so much expression in his music! :-)

  • Speed of vibrato, the "width" of vibrato, speed of bow, amount of bow ... He has been the only cellist I have seen who can make the best of all those aboved factors. SO CREATIVE and EFFECTIVE !!!

  • i know, it's actually scary. haa.

    have you seen rostropovich, too?

that's scary. especially in dance of the elves, his bow is doing tremelo but staying at the same part of the bow/ going back to the same exact part; lol it's hard to explain, you just have to see it.

i love them both, they're so amazing.

  • This is such an amazing performance... he's so in touch with the orchestra, it's like he's conducting them... he winks and smiles at the conductor while playing with ease.. and there is so much passion in his face. Beautiful.

  • If you study cello to be a professional you have to do an exam at the end of your studiing-time, and if you play that excentrical and partly unclean you won't get a got mark. (Sorry for my english, its more word by word translated german; but i hope you know what i mean)

  • The performance is fun, but i'm not sure if if its possible to reach a good exam when playing like this

  • what do you mean by "reach a good exam"?

  • hey... if you can play like him, just... do it... don't worry :) I will consider you as one of the best cellists, though you get a "not good" exam ^^!

  • can you imagine making love with Yo Yo! How exciting would that be..... oooooohhhh he is SO intense!

  • LMFAOOOOOOOOOOO THAT'S WHAT I'VE BEEN SAYING TO PEOPLE! THAT'S SO WEIRD YOU SAID THAT. XDDD!!!! so i'm not the only one who thinks this :)

  • 8eos eisai re poustara..mia mera 8a ginw san k sena re

  • Effortless.

  • Even stars makes it; 3:21

  • 0:38 to 1:00 breathtaking

  • wow in some parts you can really tell that Dvorak wrote this in america

  • wow, at 1:10 my spine was tingling like mad...omg he's my favourite...

Loved this piece anyway but now....hehehe...

  • Wow... He makes those chord passages look so easy! Ahhhhhhhhhhh I love him!!!

  • He's my Hero to.

  • You're my "Hero"~~~~~!!
