  • awesome my man.

  • Really, really well done. Kudos on taking the time to make a professional looking video. I was able to easily pick up the jist of playing the song just by watching your left hand.

  • Nice!

  • One of the easiest songs ever to play

  • That was really great. I really enjoyed it.

  • i cant see over the top of your fingers at the notes to pause it.i realy need to learne this one .

  • EXCEEDINGLY well done!!!!

  • Great stuff

Your like Live Tablature . In the past 10 minutes I've learned three of your songs .

    Thanks for sharing .

FYI for those out there trying to pick this up but are having trouble in matching the key " mytwangyguitar" is tuned down a whole step ( two frets )

  • I see two hands and a guitar pretty cool.

  • i gonna learn how to rock with your vids! tnks!

  • This is a prime example of why players should develop their ear instead of relying on inaccurate tabs. Now you can play it the right way. Have fun!

This is so correct. Your covers all sound so perfect because you rely on your musical skill instead of stupid tabs. Finally someone actually PLAYING music instead of just PARROTING it. You have my praise

  • excellant. is that the key of A

  • I saw these guys with my older brother at U.C.S.B before he went to Vietnam, and came home wasted.

  • Just added another song to my repertoire...Thank you

  • wow, whoever was flying that jet in the beginning pulled up WAY to late. haha

  • Great playing, Sam! I love Steve Miller's music.

  • LOVE IT! MY favorite song by Steve Miller. Thanks a lot!

  • I was having a debate the other day with a friend who instead that this song was recorded with a Strat, while I argued that it was a Tele. I wish I'd had this video handy, as i believe you've confirmed my position. Nice video!

  • You are exact in everything you do. I'm a guitar instructor and when I have to learn one of these songs to teach a student, I watch your video and learn it much easier than I could any other way. You rock my friend.

  • it seems like putting a capo on the 3rd fret works too?

  • ive been using ur videos to figure out how to play thank u

  • i like the way you play it, i was playing at the same time but could not keep up man. good job!

  • I thought for sure he used a capo on this song...

  • Nothing makes me want to buy a Telecaster more than your channel!

Great tone, great mixing, and above all, great playing! LOVE IT! Thank You!

    Where do I pay???

  • Nothing makes me want to buy a Telecaster more than your channel!

  • Sweet...really, really sweet! This is just what I've been looking for. It's bad enough we have to do covers to entertain so when you do, out of respect for the artist at least make a solid attempt at being good at it.

Your playing clearly shows how to make it sound right. Thank you so much! This is my first stop at your vid but I just subsribed so I'll be back!

  • that was a rough take off

  • You've got ur shit together. Being a hack, I've learned a lot from ur vids. Keep up the great work!!

  • Awsome cover! Did that plane really take off like that. That wasn't manipulated in any way?! Any harder and the wings would probably snap off!

  • Okay, I've attempted this song before. Never did get it to sound quite right. Now I see it's tuned down a whole step thanks to you and hitting those open strings makes it sound right......................finally!

I guess that's why you get paid the big bucks!

    Thanks a bunch!!

  • That was a perfect take off in the beginning. Good playing.

  • Do you have tabs for this and are you turned down one semitune? Great job

  • You are so smooth!

  • Nice Sam, I saw Stevie guitar Miller a couple of years ago he was having fun and put on a fine show. I got two CD's from King biscuit flower hour of live shows one from 1973 the other 1976 interesting on the '73 guitar licks that later found there way into his songs as the main riffs, worth checking out if you are a fan. Tim

  • Steve Miller was my first concert. Dr. Hook opened the show and my favorite band at the time was also on the bill, The Doobie Brothers. They had just released 'The Captain and Me' album.

Yep, lots of riffs stem from jams and licks.

  • the intro video was a comercial airplane useing the ground effect for take off. it was just an exparement

  • That takeoff of that Airbus A-319 is not typical for a commercal aircraft to straff the runway to build up speed for such a virtical climb. Was this at an airshow? Awsome guitar playing btw.

  • Yeehaw! This was Steve's best song. OK---so you gotta tune down. If you have to fly for a living you don't have nightmares until after you retire! Playing a guitar is like flying---it requires constant thinking, attention, parallel processing and multitasking. You've got to stay ahead of the guitar and the airplane!

  • 4 words omfg

  • epic. 5 stars. AWESOME!

  • can you teach this song I think is great

    mrpalomos2

  • :40-:49 seconds of the Paul Pena original version I just can't figure out. I figured out most of the solo on the Conan OBrian version(Key of A) except for some of the those slide moves he does on the E and G string. I just gotta keep watching and listening and practicing!

  • How bout for an encore you do the Paul Pena version in B, them double stops he does I can't figure out for the life of me! Haha, thanks for this one.

  • You are a remarkable guitar player.

    I like that guitar,nice!

Good Cover one of the best songs out there.

  • damn good song played it with a buddy last year in a jam session made the house jump up and dance that was the first time i herd it ...good job!!

  • So So Good! I want that guitar so bad...not that I could make it sound anthing close to as good as you do...

Great song! Even better job playing it!!! 5 stars!

  • How do you play jet airliner. its great one you made. please post a learn how to play that son. best regards denmark

  • honnestly, you should be able to learn this by just watching the video quite easily. it's always the same thing and really not complicated, it's just basic rock.

  • @0coincidences - My sentiements exactly. It's three friggin' chords!

  • this is a perfect example of objective reality.

  • Try tuning down a whole step on each string for this one. It looks like he's playing in D but it's actually C. Fogerty did this a bunch too. Tricky.

  • Thank you for the awesome video.

I am a beginner player, but I would like to at least play the first part of the song (the chord sounding parts at the beginning). However, all the tab that I have seen online looks pretty confusing and unlike what you're playing. Maybe I'm doing something wrong. Is it possible to put a tab of this song somewhere, or at least the first few notes so I know where to start?

  • This is so cool !!!! thanks for posting !!

  • congratulations on the 1 million mark. you do know that makes you, what ,platinum, or gold. i love this video. one last question. are you sure you are not an acoustic player? show the other side of twangy!

  • @richjerk1 - Platinum. I'm sure. Thanks for your recent comments.

  • You sure can play!! Keep playing more tunes!

  • @jakclutch - There's 103 other tunes up - soon to be 104.

  • a friend told me to watch this video. after reading all posted comments, you are producing probably the best material available for us out here. any possibility of you showing us some acoustic work?

  • @richjerk1 - Thank you. I'm not an acoustic player.

  • Great Job.

  • I think he actually played with Bad Company when they originally did this song. i recognize the guitar

  • I know nothing about playing guitar but love this song. Man, that is talent to play the way you do!!!! Bravo

  • Awesome video! Great Song... Sexy Telecaster! haha

Someone's been playing guitar ALOT longer than I have!

I'm learning this song as we speak... it's hard in some places :( but I'm getting there :)

might I post up a response... if that's ok with you? :)

  • At 52 sec. it's a C chord of some sort but what are you hitting there. It looks as if you were just touching the C on the fifth string and everything else is either open or muted.

This video must have gotten put temporarily on the home page and took off from there. A couple of months ago I had to learn the song for my band and your video never came up. I can play it in standard tuning but it's cruel do. I too changed the tuning by a 1/4 step. The short studio version doesn't have that problem.

  • Never mind, I think it's just your pinky and ring finger on the 5th frets of the 3rd and 4th strings. That must be the lowest action a guitar can have. It seems like you're not pressing down on anything. Excellent work. I guess I'm just going to have a tuned down guitar. Yuk, I wish these musicians wouldn't do this. He could have just done it in the key of D and leave the tuning standard. I guess his voice wouldn't reach the notes as easily. Now that he's older, the song live is in the key of A.

  • i think that is the best sounding tele i've ever heard. you've made me a believer in fralin pick-ups, for a tele anyway.

thanks for posting this lesson. i've always known that just playing the straight chords in standard tuning didn't really produce the vibe of the song, but had no idea what the difference was. thanks sdo much!

  • This video is getting a lot of attention all of the sudden. Glad it helped you out.

That is one of the best sounding and playing teles in the world, I kid you not.

  • Man I have been playing this all wrong! Thanks alot you have nailed it.

  • Right on brother, one of my favorite songs. you killed it!

  • This song had been baffling me for years. Way to figure out just how SM played it. Awesome.

  • That's great, been looking for this intro forever.

  • Great video! Five stars!

  • Thank you for figuring this out. You have helped me a lot. Greatly appreciated.

  • Another great cover,my best friend-I like it 5/5*****

  • your arms be floating!

  • i've waited 20 years to know how this was done.

  • What the hell is the pilot doing in the beginning?? I really hope that the passengers kicked his ass after that move :-) Great playing by the way :-) but we allready knew it was gonna be sweet before you started..

  • Thanks for your recent comments!

  • Thanks...D tuning..I've loved this since I was a kid and it was brand new song. I remember reading somewhere years ago that Steve was one of the funniest and nicest guys in the business back then. One can kinda feel that thru his music.

  • MyTyangyGuitar ,Thanks for posting this video. I must have watched it 50 times Millers lead in to this song is one of the best in rock history What Key are you playing?

  • Thanks. I put extensive info under the 'more info' sidebar. Let me know if you have any questions.

This song is not as easy as it looks. You have to play it real steady, light and not accent any of the beats.

  • Sounds great.Any chance of giving some tab on the opening riff and hooks.I don't have perfect tone and can't completely tell what you are doing with fingers.been trying for ever to find someone who plays jetairliner well.

Any thoughts about doing already gone by the eagles?

  • I'll put it on my list. I am slowly adding tabs to some covers and lessons. I'll look into doing your request in the future. Thanks for tuning in.

  • Man, you have got the best ear for the originals. Nobody on YouTube is coming close to what you're putting out here for us. Thank You!

  • Thank you. This is exactly what the guitar is doing and the tone. It was a *bitch* keeping it *real* straight and not rock it up a bit.

I've already gotten comments to 'fatten up the tone' and 'put some feeling into it'. I won't deviate from what Steve Miller laid down. They can lowball the ratings all they want. All anybody needs to do is listen to the original to know I took time to make it 100% for you folks. Thanks again.

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you!

  • I'll tell you, I was stumped as to how the hell Steve was getting that sound and it hit me while driving to work. You're welcome!

  • Well, it's got me stumped - hehe. Octaver? Nope. Whammy effect?Nope.

Twin amps with a slight delay one one? Hmmm - not really.

    What is the secret?

  • The tuning and other info is in the info section.

  • Wow...thanks.

  • I can't see your shirt! Disembodied hands!!!!

  • Very cool.Memories!!

  • i love you :)

  • what exactly telecaster is this??

    thanks my friend

great cover : ) and happy birthday again :D

  • It's a Warmoth neck on a Chandler chambered body with Lindy Fralin pickups. It has the sweetest tone ever from clean to mean. Thank you!

  • Oh man, this is such a great cover - c'mon and shake hands - after the vid intro I will reconsider if I ever gona fly again ;-)
