@applebajs To be honest, everything we know about then is pretty much subjective. We have to read each man's (or woman's) take on the matters at hand. From what I've read, Anne of Cleves was not ugly, but she was plain. She wore clothes that covered her and the like, and her appearance was different from the girls Henry was used to having.
@jaidemm. historically Henry the whore, said Anne of Cleaves was ugly, but that was just his opinion, she just probably didn't look like the slutty, bimbo, skinny, idiotic girls he was used to screwing. She probably looked like a pretty simple girl, but I don't think she was so ugly like he described it, besides how are we to know what she really looked like, all we have are paintings, and even those were known to blotch the truth a little.
@mckfrr actually Henry preferred girls with a bit of meat on him, and short. Anne was tall and thin, which was a look he did not care for, in general. I agree though, that I think it wasn't that Anne was ugly, she was just not his style, and he expected her to look differently based on her portrait. I do think Anne was also taught to be much more reserved around men, which he was not used to.
It's not just her German accent that's terrible, it's also her German itself. I am German, and I can hardly understand what she says without the English subtitles! I'm not impressed. At least she conveys the innocence, uncertainty and vulnerability in her facial expressions.
I don't blame her for her accent. I can't do it either! lol

I've read that Anne of Cleves was pretty but MADE herself look ugly, in order to get the divorce... But I don't know the truth.

How does Joss Stone playing Anne of Cleves even make sense? Joss Stone is gorgeous. This show is so historically inaccurate it makes me sick.
