"Can anyone remember the Red, Blue and Green symbol on the right hand side stamped on a 1970's television?" The 3 circle you see in the ATV Ident show exactly the same colours! Anyone on Youtube who are 40- 50+ would remember this. "Marvelous memories!!!

This is pretty dramatic. I liked this as a child and Venn diagrams always remind me of the ATV symbol (the colour rings one). We had a television with buttons labelled BBC1, BBC2, ATV1 and ATV2 at one stage.I am checking this in tribute to the late Wally Stott, who composed the fanfare, and was also responsible for the memorable music for Hancock's Half Hour.
@AidanLunn There was/is a culture of re-badging and rebranding of televisions. I think ours was rented, but not sure from whom. I know other families had different writing, even things like IBA (Independent Broadcasting Authority) 1 appeared on the buttons under the BBC 1 and 2 buttons.

I believe this ident's music was composed by Angela Morley (then Wally Stott), composer for the Goons and Tony Hancock (amongst others) - and orchestrator of such soundtracks as Star Wars IV and E.T.
There is another logo like it from a Latin television network that operates in Spain, Mexico, other South American countries, Puerto Rico and United States, Televisa. But the network is likely unrelated to ATV.
ITV idents in those days were much more authoritative, with their jingles almost as calling sounds to your TV set. It was clear that whichever network was broadcasting was both proud of their brand and wanted you to know that the following programme was made by them! ATV, Yorkshire, Thames and Anglia all had very booming jingles and rightly so. A far cry to today, with ITVs sorry excuse for presentation.
I remember visiting relatives in Bristol in the 1970's,and they had a huge TV Aerial on their roof just so they could pick up ATV from Birmingham-they preferred it to their HTV station.
Happy days, ATV was the midlands Crossroads, ATV Today, wonderful TV. ITV is in a sad state now, at least we still have the wonderful Bob Warman in our region.
Itv used to be made up of 15 regions all having their own identity, there were regional programmes along with networked programes like Coronation Street etc. ATV held the Midlands francise from 1956-1981, which was then taken over by Central. Itv is now one brand and one company.
This is from a an era in ITV television history where not only each programme had an identity but also each of the regions had their own identity. Now, every ITV programme ends in the same nondescript Black background with the same font & branding. Just imagine BBCs Doctor Who ending with a blank red background - it would look rubbish. Thankfully marketers at the BBC get a chance to show their creative genius whereas with ITV - the marketing department dont know their a*** from their elbow.
You are absolutely right - ITV are incredibly bland these days. Of course, they are in serious financial trouble at the moment but its not to be wondered at when you look at how Lew Grade has run things over the last decade. A complete sidelining of the regions, followed by a greater emphasis on cheap, nondescript reality programmes whilst all the time paying their "stars" an obscene amount of money. Very little quality left in the ITV schedules now.
I think that the 3 circles seen before the ATV logo was actually ITV's logo, as in many things like the End Boards and Schools And colleges, it featured this logo.
"ITV" didn't have an actual logo as "ITV as a brand name didn't actually eixst. It's first actual logo was "ITV" in aplain font - seen on the "central 1988 ident" video on here.
The only reason why the lightspots were used in that way on the schools and colleges presentation was because ATV (and then Central) operated ITV schools presentation and programme links. Central also operated CITV presentation and programme links.
Oh, I thought you were taking the piss, I didn't realise you actually believed it! You can't depend on Wikipedia for accuracy, it is riddled with factual errors. I can categorically assure you that you are wrong on the Dynasty theme, but whether she scored this jingle, I have no idea. Personally I doubt it if you read it on Wikipedia!

If I were to create my own ATV logo, I would make it like, as each time a note would ring, a xylophone stick would hit each letter for each note.

@dfarmbrough That's strange. I collect and repair/maintain old TV sets and I've never heard of any with region-specific buttons for ITV.

ITV use to be 15 regions with a breakfast franchise, this was eventually merged into the single ITV we have today.

This was scored by Angela Morley, one of the UK's first male-to-female transexuals. She went on to write the Dynasty theme tune.

I was always under the impression that this was composed by Wally Stott.
(or did he create the animation?)

From what I can gather Wally Stott had a sex change in 1972 and became Angela Morley.
