Let's see: in Ohio, Wisconsin, and Indiana the people have voted in draconian administrations that have gone to war with workers. In Michigan they elected a governor who installs 'city managers' in place of elected officials. In Pennsylvania they elected Rick Santorum to the Senate. In Minnesota they elect Michelle Bachman to Congress. Yeah, it's obviously only the South that's backward.
wow. make fun of her camo viser. You mean that makes her look uneducated. I would say you look queer to me because of that gay jacket you have on. I am sure that you'll just be happy that someone noticed. Stay up north with all the smart people. You would get your ass whooped down here for trying to be funny.
@crackheaddingo You guys are too fucking scared to fight, ...so go sit down with ur dumb ass, if you threaten the wrong northerner, you just might be in some trouble!!!!
@ssd55able yeah rednecks are known for being scared to fight. lmao, We fight for fun around here little one and it was also funny to hear you say "you might be in some trouble" lmao again. You pointy nose too gooders think your all that but in the real world you can't survive on your own. I never met a yank i couldnt just slap and take the fight out of, it's kinda sad.
I honestly don't get it. Does the Young Turks really hate the South this much?!? The very mention of the South and they start laughing? Are you kidding me?!? Talk about a regionocentric show. Do you people really, honestly want every single Southerner alive to hate your show?
All hail Ana. The most open minded person of all the young Turks. Among being supportive of the rights of homosexuals and down trodden African Americans, one finds that she is only prejudiced when the prejudice is one accepted by an ignorant majority. Before you bad mouth a whole group of people who are black, white, Hispanic, and even homosexual, for injustices that happened decades ago, look into your own present character.
Also, I would like to add that my biggest problem with living in the South is that fact that everyone is a Southern Baptist, and if your not...you're a horrible person. Also, racism is STILL alive, but not as bad as homophobia. I was in Walmart a few days ago and got behind a guy in line and his shirt said "Silly Faggots, Dicks are for Chicks". I really wanted to punch him and ONLY in the South would that be okay. I'm very Liberal so I hate it. :)
I live in Tennessee (Northeast to be exact). I have lived here all my life. I go to college, and I don't go mudding or own anything camo. Don't get me wrong there are people that live where I do that do partake in "redneck" activities, but I don't and neither does my family. This show would NOT offend me simply because I don't do any of that stuff, but I really don't think it will be all that amusing. Who wants to watch Billy Bob shoot a deer? Not me. :)
I was born and raised in Texas. I also don't have a southern twang, I have a wonderful education (mostly due to the fact that I live in a strong middle-class area), and I've never been mudding, I've never worn camouflage, and I think jacked-up trucks are distasteful and quite annoying on the road. Cause 99% of the time, the guy driving that thing is a road-raging d-bag.
Also, I'm liberal, progressive, believe in climate change, evolution, AND I'm agnostic. It's nice to meet you. :D
It's actually pretty accurate. Possibly because a gargantuan university (UT) is there, and from what my mom told me of the city itself (she graduated from UT), it was really weird and fun. The center of the city is more liberal, but I wouldn't necessarily call it ragingly progressive. Towards the outskirts, though, things get more conservative.
Typically, the bigger and more developed the city/area, the more liberal-ish it is. An exception would be Plano, which I live near. Plano's one of the most conservative cities in the nation, and has a massive, fervently Christian population, probably because of the humongous churches we have around here. Like Prestonwood Baptist, which I refer to as "Six Flags Over Jesus". XD
And I'd also like to say that I'm not at all offended by the concept of this show, since there are definitely rednecks around here, and they're plentiful as well. However, the name of the show is laughable; the south doesn't "rock". At least, not here in Texas. Far from it!! XD It's actually quite embarrassing, what, with all the mess in the state government and budget and what not. That's a different conversation, though. I digress.
Plus where I live in Central Florida, most of the "rednecks" here have big ass trucks, mudding, and wearing nothing but camo. OH and partying like retards.
Another thing you say that shows your ignorance of the south is calling people who live in the swamps hillbillies. Hillbillies live in the mountains, usually the Appalachians. The culture and language before TV brought mainstream America to the mountains was lowland 18th century Scots.
I think you are showing your ignorance of the south and your prejudice towards it from your comments. From that girls vest I inferred she worked for Sportsman's Warehouse maybe the visor is part of the uniform. I have never understood the whole wearing camo when you are not hunting thing. Frankly I am not sure why anyone would want to blend in when you are in the woods with a bunch of trigger happy folks anyway.

After this show, who's next in line to get their own show, the Filipinos or the Hispanics? I'm just saying that this type of thing just seems it's going to be endless.
There seems to be a lot of butthurt southerners commenting on this video. Anyone from the north who travels down south hears shit about "stupid yankee liberals" all the time.
@Diatonic5th Does not sound like good fun. Sounds like this guy thinks he knows something. You sound just like one of the yankee snobs the south don't need yankee's nor vice versa. Just let it be.
fuck all these country ass people complaining. the south has this rep because a lot of the people there are fucking dumb. complaining isnt going to change that.
Eh! City slickers! I'm actually in Canada and I live in a rural area that grows the food that the self righteous urban assholes of this whole continent eats to sustain their selfish f-ing lives! Just because you live in a dirty, polluted, crime infested, nasty f-ing city, doesn't make you better than rural citizens that provide you with life!!! Get off your high horse and wake up to the fact that large cities are half the reason ( if not more) for global warming...if you even beleive in it JERKS
@Dipstikk or just move to the northeast. Its only this region of the country that sucks. I lived in New Jersey for 15 years, and now I've lived in Jacksonville for 5, these people are lazy as shit, and stupid as shit. Save your money and move to the northeast, if you can handle the competition and traffic.
@JDBlessin I've moved to New Jersey and it was even worse there. Stupid as some of the people in Florida are, at least when you smile at someone, they smile back. I have never met a bigger collection of cold, apathetic jackasses in my life. They all had a personality akin to the sensation of swallowing a ball of razor blades. There were maybe two people I met there who were even remotely hospitable.
Nah, I want to move back to Eau Claire, Wisconsin, my birth city. I do actually miss the north.
@Dipstikk People here in Florida are certainly nicer, I don't blame them, none of them work hard, or seem to give a shit about anything. Yeah it's a lot colder in New Jersey, particularly north Jersey, but if you want smart you can't do much better, obviously no matter where you are there will be dumb people, all you can do is limit your exposure. I don't know about Wisconsin, so good luck to you, if you actually move there.
I'm a liberal and an atheist, I hang out with other liberal atheists, and I grew up and live in SC.
I'm not going to lie and say I'm not the minority in my state, because there are people who are right wing/jack off to Jesus, but the vocal people are just as small a minority as me. Most people really are moderate when you actually talk to them. If you honestly think that everyone here will watch that filth, please meet some real southerners.
Yeah. This is the last TYT video I will ever watch.
@abama84 liberals don't get major support in the south because you morons are too busy waiting for Jeebus to come back or interracial marriage to be illegal
Casting notice on a flyer taped on a pole.........
This country is pretty much in hell with shows like this coming up, not to mention millions of dollars in salaries being paid to idiots who party and spread diseases.
Annoying that this guy kept on going "PFFFT....PFFFT" under his breath like some stuck up high school cheerleader during the video. Like he's better then everyone.
fucking hick trolls get out of the comment section , even if you don't belong to the southern sterotype I definately can't find a reason to defend such a jacked up ideology
Really? Wow. as if us South Carolinians don't already look bad enough from our crazy right wing government. Wow. Yes, there are several of us who are like that unfortunately. But not all. Here's hoping people can still tell the difference.
Stop getting offended on behalf of the girl or southerners. It was a joke, and regardless of whether or not it was funny, people in the south laugh that kind of thing off. We do so because we aren't spineless, overly sensitive wimps. Occasionally we ARE, however, poorly educated, slackjawed, gun-toting, camo-wearing, bible-thumping racists and we get made fun of for it. No big deal.
@alabamamanable You maybe but not me lol. However you can say the Ana guys nothing more than Uppity, Snobby, Gay Loving, Man hating, Sensitve Weak feminst. Now see if she wouls take that lightly
@MountHappy He makes good points once in a while, that's true. But let's keep it real, he's not really a show host. And I don't think he wants to be one.
@MountHappy I think Jayar makes the best points anyway. Theres so many TYT clips where Jayar says something, and Cenk usually gets persuaded and agrees. But don't get me wrong, Cenk is still my favorite, he's the most entertaining.
I'm a southerner and I hate this idea it makes us in hillbillies which is not true. I love my southerner roots but I'm also not looking foreword to a redneck Snookie either. Hell, I love muddling just as much as the next tomboy, and riding on my friend's four wheeler. I also think camouflage doesn't in fact make you look like your not educated either.......
@sarajohnson6 You're an individual, who gives a shit about stereotypes? We know they're stupid so it's just as stupid to be offended by them. This show is gonna be just another one of the hundreds of reality shows that people buy into because they're incredibly bored and find entertainment in watching other people live. It's all manipulated so most stereotypes in reality shows are premeditated for the entertainment value.
Hm. This is the first TYT that has ever gotten my hackles up as I view. I would much rather watch a reality show that portrays us real hicks than the consistent stream of shows that come out of Yankee land.
Yeah, I said it. The most racist people I have met live well nigh of the Mason-Dixon. Truth! One other thing: the young woman who speaks, sartorial decisions aside, is well-spoken and shares her honest opinion with no prejudice at all.
Its funny how the reporter made sure guns were in the footage somewhere. Most of the country has no clue what the south is really like.Thats OK though cause i aint never met a dayum yankee i would piss on ifn he were on fire.
I don't know why TYT are being such ass wipes about this. There are those that live in stereotypes, and those that don't. I agree with the girl in the gun store, and the new guy here is being a douche. You too, Anna.
Seriously, if people down south are complaining about the image of the show, you can shut the fuck up about saying "Oh, you're from the south (so stupid)."
Honestly, one day they're advicating against stereotypes from republican polititians; the next day they're abusing southern stereotypes.
you know, whoever caves in, auditions, and gets on the show to exploit their stereotype, if the show is successful those people are going to end up being multi-millionaires. I guess its just a matter of what's more important, pride or money?
I live in South Carolina and I am not that uptight about the sterotypical beliefs regarding the south, because at the end of the day we still have the title of "Southern hospitality" and I take pride in that. But I definatly do not agee with the comment about the girl seeming uneducated because of her head gear. Most people who work in stores that sell clothes are required to advertise clothes/accessories by wearing them. So that assumption about her was totally uncalled for.
I live in Louisiana. I am not offended, because I am not retarded. Stereotypes exist for a reason. People who believe them to be true all across the board are simply dumb.
The Swamp people Brian Unger is talking about are true Americans who live in poverty or close to it. If they where born not in a swamp, but in luxory like Unger was, I bet they would be totaly different people!!!!
I have a great script for a Reality show. I teach bio in the South, full of mudders and camo, since I teach in a rural high school. I could easily write script for many yrs based on my daily grind and fight with fundie kids when they don't like what I have to say.
tyt criticizes other people for following sterotypes then they do it themselves
EPIC FAIL. this is what happens when cenk is not on the show. ana always does a terrible job on the show when he's away. one of the 1st tyt videos i had to thumbs down
I'm hardly a redneck but going off-road in a jeep is still fun. Provided you have some place to go. A lot of off-roaders are the people who go out and maintain a lot of the national parks
Yes, that show will make southerners look uneducated and stupid, but that is what these show do. First came Laguna Beach, then Jersey Shore, and now the south. Get over it. It is a show made by the lowest common denominator for the lowest common denominator.
I'm from Charleston SC and we may get the occasional redneck in my school but most people are NOT the stereotype.
The news team went to a HUNTING STORE to get the opinion of a southerner who looks like the stereotype.
So NO SHIT TYT, common sense that she will have a camoflauge outfit IN a hunting store that YOU VOLUNTARILY WENT TO. retards!. Thats like going to a chopstick store in Japan and saying "look at these people with their chopsticks, yup Japanese only use chopsticks when they eat"
@DaFawky Sorry but believing that the earth was created in 7 days and is only 6000ish years old qualifies you for being uneducated. Not only that your Japanese/chopstick analogy makes absolutely no sense any logical and educated person walking into a chopstick store wouldn't come to that conclusion. Statistically the south is very uneducated and scores low for the national statistics.
@youngn420 Sorry but believing that the earth was created in 7 days is not a "southern thing". All religious beliefs are based on faith not fact and is not neccessarily based on your education.
Actually my Japanese/chopsticks analogy makes ABSOLUTE sense.
An educated person walking into a chopstick store wouldn't come up with that conclusion.NO SHIT. *THAT'S MY POINT!*. Its the same as walking into a HUNTING store in the south and coming up with a similar conclusion based on her visor.
@DaFawky Just look up the statistics. The south has the "bible belt", the south has the most Christians and the most Christians who believe in the bibles version of creation. I never met anyone in my life who believed in creationism untill I moved to Dallas and it seems like everywhere I go I meet more people who believe that crap. The south also has the most high school student per capita drop out rate as well. Education is very lacking in the south whether you want to believe it or not.
@youngn420 Doesn't matter the percentage of Christians as you are generalizing them as Christian, when being a Christian is not intrinsically a "southern thing". It would be the same as saying "Utahans are stupid for believing in the book of Mormon!".. I would be generalizing Utahans as mormon when I know good and well that there are tons of non-religious people from Utah.. Being raised in Charleston, half my class was nonreligious and most had basic understanding of evolution.
@GENERALJOHNNYREBEL No, actually I don't. My whole life I have gone to public school with low-to-middle class people. almost half the students have free lunch passes due to low income(used to have one myself).. its funny when people say its the school system with the problem, when it's mostly the parents with the problem.
The most important difference between Jersey Shore and shows like Swamp People, Deadliest Catch, Ax-Men, etc is that Jersey Shore shows a bunch of people making fools out of themselves and getting paid too much money to do it. On the other hand shows like Ax-Men, Swamp People etc, show people how they make a living, in other words they work for it, unlike those on Jersey Shore and other shows of that nature.
No one said the girl at the counter wasn't intelligent. He was pointing out that its funny and ironic that she was behind the gun counter, country accent, visor indoors AND it was camo'ed. Its just funny. Why do people get so offended about everything nowadays. I'm black but I don't speak like most of you probably think a black person would or even worse "should". But it doesn't bother me when people make jokes about me. Just chill the eff out. Its like nobody is allowed to have fun.
@theylied1776 Agreed about Alabama. However, South Cackalacky is probably the most embarrassing state in the country. Think about the Appalachian Trail, the "such as the South Africa so they should have more maps" girl, Alvin Greene. The fun just never stops in SC!
@Tanfeliz ... In South Carolina we don't have so much prejudice against minorities as Alabama or Texas. In TX and AL you still have segragated schools. You don't get away with shit like that here.. We aren't so gun crazy either. either Texas or Alabama has to be the most embarassing states ever. There have been plenty of retarded people on Who Wants to be a Millionaire and most of them seemed to be of the Northern persuasion just saying..
As an intelligent and very progressive southerner who likes the outdoors (not a hunter; too squeamish), I'm quite a bit offended, TYT. Do I think the show is ridiculous? Duh. Of course it is. It's horrible stereotypes, just as much as Jersey Shore. And kind of like assuming a girl with a visor in a gun store is an unintelligent redneck.
Let's see: in Ohio, Wisconsin, and Indiana the people have voted in draconian administrations that have gone to war with workers. In Michigan they elected a governor who installs 'city managers' in place of elected officials. In Pennsylvania they elected Rick Santorum to the Senate. Dipstikk 10 months ago 4
JDBlessin 10 months ago
@JDBlessin I've moved to New Jersey and it was even worse there. Stupid as some of the people in Florida are, at least when you smile at someone, they smile back. I have never met a bigger collection of cold, apathetic jackasses in my life. They all had a personality akin to the sensation of swallowing a ball of razor blades. There were maybe two people I met there who were even remotely hospitable.
Nah, I want to move back to Eau Claire, Wisconsin, my birth city. I do actually miss the north.
Dipstikk 10 months ago
@Dipstikk People here in Florida are certainly nicer, I don't blame them, none of them work hard, or seem to give a shit about anything. Yeah it's a lot colder in New Jersey, particularly north Jersey, but if you want smart you can't do much better, obviously no matter where you are there will be dumb people, all you can do is limit your exposure. I don't know about Wisconsin, so good luck to you, if you actually move there.

Hell, I love muddling just as much as the next tomboy, and riding on my friend's four wheeler. I also think camouflage doesn't in fact make you look like your not educated either.......
sarajohnson6 10 months ago 2
@sarajohnson6 You're an individual, who gives a shit about stereotypes? We know they're stupid so it's just as stupid to be offended by them. This show is gonna be just another one of the hundreds of reality shows that people buy into because they're incredibly bored and find entertainment in watching other people live. It's all manipulated so most stereotypes in reality shows are premeditated for the entertainment value.

What was with ripping on the store girl? She works in a hunting store: likely the camouflage cap is, if not part of the uniform, at least encouraged.
Also, "undereducated?" You do not know shit about this woman, Mr Unger.
She likely has to work any job she can get; irrespective of her education.
For a pair of purported leftists, who hold forth on the poor job market and the value of education (Anna), this seems an odd approach to this topic.
I suppose you're having fun, but I'm not laughing.

I don't know why TYT are being such ass wipes about this. There are those that live in stereotypes, and those that don't. I agree with the girl in the gun store, and the new guy here is being a douche. You too, Anna.
darkValkerie9 10 months ago
Seriously, if people down south are complaining about the image of the show, you can shut the fuck up about saying "Oh, you're from the south (so stupid)."
Honestly, one day they're advicating against stereotypes from republican polititians; the next day they're abusing southern stereotypes.
Grow up TYT.
adept91 10 months ago
you know, whoever caves in, auditions, and gets on the show to exploit their stereotype, if the show is successful those people are going to end up being multi-millionaires. I guess its just a matter of what's more important, pride or money?
LadySeraph 10 months ago
I live in South Carolina and I am not that uptight about the sterotypical beliefs regarding the south, because at the end of the day we still have the title of "Southern hospitality" and I take pride in that. But I definatly do not agee with the comment about the girl seeming uneducated because of her head gear. Most people who work in stores that sell clothes are required to advertise clothes/accessories by wearing them. So that assumption about her was totally uncalled for.
TammyGarilo 10 months ago
I live in Louisiana. I am not offended, because I am not retarded. Stereotypes exist for a reason. People who believe them to be true all across the board are simply dumb.

DaFawky 10 months ago 2
@DaFawky Sorry but believing that the earth was created in 7 days and is only 6000ish years old qualifies you for being uneducated. Not only that your Japanese/chopstick analogy makes absolutely no sense any logical and educated person walking into a chopstick store wouldn't come to that conclusion. Statistically the south is very uneducated and scores low for the national statistics.
youngn420 10 months ago
@youngn420 Sorry but believing that the earth was created in 7 days is not a "southern thing". All religious beliefs are based on faith not fact and is not neccessarily based on your education.
Actually my Japanese/chopsticks analogy makes ABSOLUTE sense.
An educated person walking into a chopstick store wouldn't come up with that conclusion.NO SHIT. *THAT'S MY POINT!*. Its the same as walking into a HUNTING store in the south and coming up with a similar conclusion based on her visor.
DaFawky 10 months ago
@DaFawky Just look up the statistics. The south has the "bible belt", the south has the most Christians and the most Christians who believe in the bibles version of creation. I never met anyone in my life who believed in creationism untill I moved to Dallas and it seems like everywhere I go I meet more people who believe that crap. The south also has the most high school student per capita drop out rate as well. Education is very lacking in the south whether you want to believe it or not.
youngn420 10 months ago
@youngn420 Doesn't matter the percentage of Christians as you are generalizing them as Christian, when being a Christian is not intrinsically a "southern thing". It would be the same as saying "Utahans are stupid for believing in the book of Mormon!".. I would be generalizing Utahans as mormon when I know good and well that there are tons of non-religious people from Utah.. Being raised in Charleston, half my class was nonreligious and most had basic understanding of evolution.

Tanfeliz 10 months ago

@Tanfeliz ... In South Carolina we don't have so much prejudice against minorities as Alabama or Texas. In TX and AL you still have segragated schools. You don't get away with shit like that here..
