@MrCraigary123 The low doses were enough to get me to fall asleep quickly, and the side effects were already troublesome (increased apnea, morning hangover) so it seems like a higher dose would be worse. Melatonin works way better for me.

I have sleep apnea, so I've started doing this same thing to monitor my sleep quality. I don't think my camera picks up IR, so I just leave the light on and wear an eye mask.
Most cheap monochrome cameras pick up some of the infrared range. Sony's camcorders also have a "nightshot" mode that allows IR to be used for recording video.
One problem with leaving the light on is that it messes with your melatonin production, which affects sleep.
dipenhydramine hydrochloride works better in higher doses try taking 150 which is 6 25mg or three 50mg or higher
