  • It's too bad all this talent was wasted on such a lame sport. Might even be considered child abuse. He could have been an olympic medalist in some other sport but instead the adults around him guided this poor child into being elite at a fringe version of a fringe sport.

  • @ihatelols I did not say this sport was easy. I'm sure it can be grueling. But it's still obscenely boring. And you can't argue that NO ONE gives 2 shits about Kettlebell lifting. That's a fact. I'm sure this kid grew up to be pretty strong and in pretty damn good condition. But it's still a waste. All that hard work could have been put into a sport other than the least popular sport on planet earth.

    Precisely I am 77kg and I clean an Jerk 100kg.. which is fairly little, compared to a weighlifter, that, in my weight, would easily jerk 160kg.

    Naim Suleimanov clean&jerked more than TRIZE his own bodyweight, weighting 60kg, he liftet 190kg!

    So please....stop it

  • if you do a lot of weight, along with other heavy lifting, it can be taxing on your joints, trust me, it sucks.

  • Those are not 35lb those are 35Kg judging by the size only, unless their hollow

  • Those are competition bells, they come always in the same size and those will be hollow. This is to make sure that you do not have to change technique and relearn when you enter a new weight level.

  • Read it again. there it says 35lb bells, which are 16kgs. Those exist. Later on in his life at 17 he used 32s, which are 70lbs.

  • Kinesiology is a joke. I once had a Kinesiologist lay some supplements on my back and then performed various resistance movements with my leg and arm to determine the dosage through the plastic bottles and thru my skin. YES, you heard me correctly. I jumped off the table and ran.

  • Kinesiology works through hypnosis. But well, the guys doing the stuff they do don't know they are doing hypnosis and trance work, they simply do their job. If you wanna know more the flowers and the bottles are what is called an anchor and yes, they work. Not in the way kinesiologists think they work but they DO work. The human mind is a funny thing.

  • Renell : The funny thing is that those kettlebell lifters VERY rarely actually have injuries. The pressing movement common in the community is far more dangerous than this jerk.

    I will agree with you on the age issue but the other issue needs to be talked about.

  • look at how he jerks and rotates his shoulders just for that motion 1 his bones and muscles are under developed for undergoing strenuous stuff like that and 2 I am a kinesiologists and sports conditioning specialist so thats how i can tell

  • you do have a point, I happen to agree that such exercises aren't good for developing stability, the rotator cuff is composed of such small muscles and there is just too much possible force in a jerk

    Growth plates are only affected when you lift wrong and smash you them. This only happne ins accidents.

  • no its a common known FACT that doing weights at a 2 young age causes a big affect on how tall you become.

    If you have been talking to surgeons, interesting. Most of them have never done randomized studies on weightlifting children. Most of them do not even work out.

    If you ask specialist strength coaches for youth teams like the famed Mark Rippetoe, he will most likely give you a physiology lesson and tell you that it is not a fact.

    Fact is that playing soccer or rugby are FAR more dangerous to your growth plates.

  • actually my uncles a physo pherapist and my sisters studying in a degree for a surgon, so i can ask them soon about this subject and btw YES rugby does affect your height plenty, not to sure about soccer but rugby and weight lifting in 90% + of the cases does affect your height.

  • Good idea, do so. But if they are citing studies you should ask wether or not correct form has been taken out of the equation in the study. This is often a variable that is quite often ignored but totally breaks the study. The interesting thing is though that surgeons and orthopedics say it happens while sports medicine specialist call bullshit on it. The main problem here is that both fields dont like interacting with eath other much...

  • tell this to all olympic weightlifters. and if you say some are real short, elite weightlifters are chosen by talent and body structure. shorter people have a advantage.

  • Yeah that is one of the many reasons.

    Actually there is one thing that actually happens with elite lifters. They shrink about 1-2cm. THis is because their vertebral discs actually get pressed together so much that their size goes down. They are not in any way hurt by all means but the vertebral discs under an MRI are simply shorter than those of other people. Nothing to do with growth plates though.
